Detailed Reviews
Everything was lovely apart of the food option. We stayed 4days, had pretty much same buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner throughout the stay. No alacart menu was available, there was a snack menu which was only available for limited hours in the evening. NO FOOD available at all if you miss out 2pm lunch, next available food would be only after 5:30pm. So you need to keep that in mind while you’re snorkeling or kayaking in the water. And yes being on an island everything was expensive.I would suggest all to BYO, take your own bottle of wine/spirits, they provide ice and glasses. And yes rent the pocket wifi from the airport. That would be lot cheaper. As the resort only provides very limited free wifi (250mb) per room per day, then rest you have to buy. Also if you decide to add the bill to your room there is a surcharge on that which they don’t tell you. So ask in advance before adding any bills to your room. Hope this information is helpful for all travellers!!

Less than 3 hours from Sydney is an amazing over the water hotel that delivers turtles swimming at your door... The rooms are beautifully appointed and very well cleaned (if that is important to you). The water is crystal clear, there is full colour coral reef close by and nature abounds as the hotel is on a nature reserve island off Noumea. Strangely the animals (birds and fish and turtles) seem to have adopted the hotel. For the more more adventurous types, there is a kitesurfing school. The lunch and dinner may not be up to everyones taste but its a small price to pay for an incredible hotel stay on an island paradise.

The resort was great but it would be better with a few little changes. 3 night stay, solo trip.
Accom: I stayed in a garden bungalow room which I highly recommend. The room was very spacious and it did have a sofa bed so you could easily sleep 4 adults or a family. The facilities within the room are to a high standard as was the housekeeping. I didn't use the outdoor table or sunlounges that were attached to the room as the outdoor area wasn't very inviting due to the grounds and insects. If you stayed in a bungalow that was near the water I'm sure you would enjoy these options. It was also nesting season for the local birds so be prepared for them to be quite noisy as dusk rolls in. You can't really hear them within the rooms though and earplugs are provided.
Overall facilities: Gym was well set up and easy to access.
It was easy to walk around the resort and walk to the pool or ocean or the restaurants.
The pool was great and there were plenty of deck chairs. There isn't any pool side service but the bar is close by. I believe the pool is only meant to be used by hotel guests vs day trippers but don't expect this to be followed. No issues on my side but just an FYI.
Food & Beverage: From reading reviews I took some snacks with me over to the island, incl duty free Gin. I highly recommend this. I did try to find a grocery store near the wharf however I was only able to find a little corner shop so I suggest either bringing food before you reach the port.
Breakfast was included and it was great - every option you need for breakfast and a large assortment. I made a daily ham and brie baguette to take back for lunch along with fruit and pastries for snacks.
The dinner buffet wasn't that great for the AUD price conversion but you don't have many other options as you're on the island. I grabbed the chicken platter (for 2 pax) one evening and it was also very expensive converted to AUD. It was a few pieces of fried chicken & chips (tender, wings, onion rings) in a takeout container as I had asked for TA.
There was a pool bar but it was closed the entire time I was there. A local bottle of beer was about $13 AUD and then cocktails were vastly more expensive. I grabbed a 1.25L bottle of soda water at dinner ($10) and I used this to make my own gin drinks which I recommend. Overall I would say that if you have any dietary restrictions you might struggle with food options.
Staff: The staff were super friendly and it was easy to converse with them in basic French with most understanding English. They were super welcoming across all interactions.
Transport: The ferry is easy to use and smooth ride.
Overall it was a great stay, the resort could do with a few changes to take it up a level or two but would stay again.

Family of 4 with reasonable expectations… firstly it is a beautiful location with a price tag by Hilton but very disappointed. End of Sept 2022 and in random order:
1/ pool bar : closed… ok not meant to stay at the pool bar but like seriously not even during lunch or for sunset ?
2/ food overall : cheap selection, there is no chef in the kitchen but a group of people pretending to cook a repetitive buffet. Other than a stinky and fried option at the nearby cafe which takes hours to get food as there is limited personnel on the island… and it is quite clear the personnel has received very limited if any training.
3/ I do understand we are in a post Covid era and it is tough but the price are nowhere close to an Hilton service….
4/ asked for a beer at the pool bar… waited 20 minutes and asked to have a clean glass… I meant not washed with tap water but at least some soap… apparently the soap was finished. But they claimed highest covid protocol 🥳 and tons of glass and dishes all over the place …
5/ ice cream at the buffet: 2 sad boxes of ice cream sitting there in a old freeze like the end of the world is approaching fast…
6/ personnel is nice but they do what they can … this is now a mass gathering location, volume matters, quality does not…
7/used the gym for an hour and forgot to remove towel and a water cup from a bench… still there the 24 hours after I went back in … yes, sorry my fault but …
8/ … I can keep going on but there is a serious lack of attention to details, poor management ( have not seen any senior manager across the long week end ) and this place does not qualify for a 5 star hotel …
Better to take a boat for a day trip and stay in the island for a nice snorkelling experience but not really for the service, quality or food.

We stayed for 9 nights to destress and this totally hit the brief. The rooms were really spacious and comfortable. The beds were particularly comfy. The rooms are serviced daily and housekeeping staff were great. We really enjoyed seeing the sea and bird life. The turtles are amazing, the snakes fascinating although we kept our distance and there were thousands of birds nesting when we were there which were fun to watch coming in at night. There are lots of beautiful spots to just sit and relax. One side of the island is used frequently by kite surfers and this is entertaining to watch.
However… there are LOTS of snakes. We saw at least 3-5 every day and they are not shy. They came right up to us both on land and the sea. This is not a place for anyone who has snake phobias. As others have noted the hotel give you no information - it would have made our stay more pleasant if they did (I’d have got some comfort from knowing the hotel plan for how they might deal with a snake bite). Reception really don’t provide much info about anything, they just give you your key and point you in the direction of your room.
Re the food, we read reviews prior to going and took our own snacks and duty free drinks. The breakfast buffet had lots of selection and we typically took some yoghurt, fruit and a cheese plate back to our room for later. We tried the evening bar meals which were deep fried and hardly high cuisine but the second time I felt off and threw it up during the night. After that we just ate a big breakfast and our snacks and avoided eating dinner on the island. It wasn’t an issue for us as a couple but perhaps would be less of an option for a family.
And one final gripe, the hotel don’t inhabit the whole island but someone should pick up the rubbish the day trippers leave. We picked up quite a bit on our daily walks including sharp shards of glass.

Food is appalling and of poor quality .Service is non existent and the place is poorly managed. One glass of beer is $20, a small coke $10 and a very bad buffet of poor quality is $90. The setting is amazing but the tables and chairs are filthy and covered in food which the lazy staff do not clean. Pool towels are never available and staff could not care less. I had a beautiful room on the beach but if you have a garden room be prepared to put up with the stench of septic systems. I have a septic on my farm and if it is properly serviced it never smells. The management at this hotel are cheap and do not service their septics . Avoid this place it is a waste of money

+1
We stayed for two nights in a Deluxe Overwater Bungalow.
Having read a lot of the reviews we were a bit hesitant to stay, but wow we are glad we did.
The bungalows are super super tidy. They are also private, and lovely outdoor daybeds for you to watch the fishes and turtles go by.
The island has everything you need. If you are staying you get to use the snorkel and mask free of charge (very high quality) and the kayak/jet ski hire is also very reasonably priced.
We caught the complimentary boat over, on time and easy, left our bags at the port with the hotel desk and found a supermarket (about 15 min walk). 100% recommend doing this before going over to the island as prices on the island aren't cheap ($10NZD for a can of Pepsi). Also if you can bring some beers over or some snacks for the day time.
The breakfast buffet is fine, there are so many choices and the best pan au chocolate I've ever had. Eggs many ways, hams, cheese, fruits, cereals, pastries and lots of other things. At breakfast, along with everyone else, we made a small baguette to take back to the room for lunch- staff didn't seem to mind people doing this. You can also dine at the restaurant or snack bar for lunch.
Dinner buffet. Sure it's pricey, but it's an island. So enjoy it. Steak, prawns, sashimi, salad bar (average), cheeses, fries. Everything for kids and adults. We stayed for two nights and ate at the buffet for one of them.
If you are able to afford it, I really recommend the overwater bungalow. It sounds cliche, but wow it was incredible. With retractable stairs, when you are finished snorkeling or swimming (with the fish and turtles) you bring the stairs up. This keeps those little stripey snakes away. One came up our stairs when we were swimming but our lovely neighbour alerted us and we were able to flick him away.
Overall a super enjoyable stay, we seriously loved it!

I wanted to love this hotel but sadly a lot of the other reviews rang true.
The staff were not of the professionalism or service quality that I would expect of a Hilton brand and of a hotel of this price point. In contrast, I stayed two nights at Le Meridien Noumea prior to my stay here and the staff were warm, welcoming, knowledgeable, professional and willing to help, plus I was automatically given a room upgrade in line with my status. Almost the opposite was true of the DoubleTree experience - staff barely wanted to interact, and whilst some were friendly, few were knowledgeable or able to help with basic queries.
I stayed in an over water bungalow which was beautiful and definitely recommended if you do decide to stay here, however was disappointed / disgusted to find two cockroaches at check in. I understand that this sometimes cannot be helped, but when I informed the front desk nothing was done - so I trapped them under some glasses and they lived there for my entire stay, even after I informed housekeeping the next day (as per the recommendation by the front desk staff) and housekeeping said it was an issue for front desk.
You are literally stranded on an island so ensure you bring food and snacks with you if you don't want to be dining at the exorbitant restaurant everyday. The dinner buffet is about AUD80, and probably was worth about a third of that price.
The boat times to and from the island are scarce - even an hourly departure would help in the mornings for people leaving to catch planes, instead of every 2 hours. I would recommend anyone staying here to check out the day before a departing flight and stay in Noumea proper to avoid any stress.
Sadly what could have been a very lovely stay fell short of just about every expectation.

We spent three nights here and sadly- everything was a miss.
I’ve listed a few elements below, but just skip the read and go to Moorea.
• The overwater bungalows are expensive and very very outdated.
• The ferry only runs at a few (mostly inconvenient times from the mainland)
• The lunch was expensive and buffet only so only one other place to eat.
• The decks are damaged and need repair
• The pool bar only opens certain days and also doesn’t serve a lot of drinks or cocktails only the main bar does.
• Seasnakes are everywhere. They out number the fish 5:1.
• wildlife is a massive miss, no fish, no coral and no decent snorkelling.
The price you pay for general things is more than Tahiti, which makes it a no brainer to avoid.

Our first visit for three and a half years due to Covid close down. Millions of dollars has been well spent to upgrade this beautiful resort. We used to visit annually from Australia to enjoy unspoiled beauty, despite substandard accommodations, but, now we are able to enjoy 5 star comfort in the same pristine environment. Clear, warm waters, abundant marine life, well trained staff are very discreet, whilst helpful and seem genuinely happy to be working in a beautiful place. No mechanical disturbances, just abundant bird life, gentle lapping of tides ebbing and flowing. The food and beverage offerings are adequate for a low key holiday, don’t come if you expect ‘cordon Bleu’ as it’s more, honest, plentiful island style nourishment! But good French wines and inventive cocktails are served by cheerful staff.
Four nights could have stretched into 7 if responsibilities hadn’t beckoned! We’ve allready re booked for December.!

There is a car park where you catch the ferry from. Not sure what the rates are. Just google it and you should find out. Enjoy.
from the island 6.30, 8, 10
from the mainland 7am, 9am, 11
bring your own as the swimming ban is still in place so no one will hire it. unless youre going out to turtle island then your tour will have them. we brought some from anaconda and they worked great especially swimming from the bungalows, we probably didnt need to bring the flippers as the water is easy to swim without them.
Morning and late afternoon, but saw reef sharks late afternoon too
Wasn’t a problem for us. Emails were good.
There’s a regular ferry shuttle from Port Moselle that you can pay for at the ferry building. You don’t have to book through the hotel
