One of the nicest places we have ever stayed with beautifully appointed bungalow with two spacious bedrooms and two spacious bathrooms for the 4 of us and a living area with sofa, dining table and kitchenette with sink, fridge and kettle. A balcony which was the whole length of the bungalow was just fabulous with glimpses of the ocean, and a big green field behind to kick a soccer ball. Everything was clean and well maintained. The grounds were well kept and lush with flowers and foliage. Restaurant was situated in a magical spot and Happy Hour cocktails 5-6pm everyday were a welcome treat. Dinner meals were pricey but of good quality - we didn't have an outstanding dish though tried the lobster and steak which other travellers had raved about. Breakfast was decent (white bread, pancakes, fruit, cereal), but as you accept in a remote location, there is not much choice, though this was where we at least got the most fresh fruit during our Vanuatu trip. Slight downside were the bikes were not maintained so we could not use them; no lighter/cheaper choices for lunches; and my son got gastro the last night we were there from the fish with pineapple salsa dish he had. We are pretty certain this was the case as we did not eat anywhere else and heard of other guests getting sick too. We did report this to reception and this did spoil 2 days of our holiday as we all ended up getting gastro. We also did not realise there was a separate vegetarian menu until our last day and had tried to just pick veggie option from the main menu for my daughter.
From the hotel we did the trip to the Blue Cave but mostly we just entertained ourselves with snorkelling at the two nearby Blue Holes (1 and 2) and even just in front of the resort off the pier. Lots of great snorkelling. You can bring your own gear or borrow for free from the resort's dive centre. A very special place to stay but we were just unlucky with the gastro incident.

Enjoyed our stay at this beautifully landscaped ocean front property on Tanna island. The accommodation is in tastefully decorated and very clean Bures, and a breakfast buffet style breakfast is included. We were only given menus for the cooked breakfast possibilities they last morning.

Lunch and dinner are la carte..menus have several choices for each meal. Nice salads.. the battered fish was not crispy and needed seasoning. Very good spaghetti a la carbonara, prawns in tequila sauce and penne with lobster saucewas a stand out.

The Mt. Yasur volcano is the biggest draw here.. sunset tours leave around 2:30-3 in order to get there by sunset. Amazing!!!

Best not to go on a rainy day we were told, as the steam would obscure the view.
Tours organized at the hotel.

The other must see is a visit to the Kastom or traditional village, like Yakal. Our driver/guide PHIL was excellent, informative and considerate. He did a fabulous job navigating the deeply rutted dirt roads. We enjoyed sitting on comfy chairs bolted to the flatbed of the Isuzu truck when the road was not as bumpy.

PHIL speaks English well and knows all about the island. We enjoyed the Tanna highlights tour as well. The guide/owner of the big banyan tree was also informative and fun.

There are other tours as well.. we enjoyed having black magic explained by the friendly local guide who was also a teacher.

There’s a pool on site and various activities.. snorkelling, bocce etc.

The local staff are friendly and pleasant.

Would definitely recommend.

We stayed 4 days with our two teen daughters and wish we could have stayed longer! The 2 bedrooms seem newer and quite spacious, the single cabins are a bit more dated. The center of activity is the restaurant, bar, and front desk building. After a busy day it was great to hang out on the chairs with incredible views sipping a beer or wine. We made a habit of those two hours chatting prior to dinner while the sunset and although simple i was memorable. Breakfasts are outstanding and their bread is AMAZING. Lunch Dinner have 3 choices for mains and a couple of entree's. We found ourselves looking forward to the choices usually a meat, a fish, and a veg option. Consistently really good food!

Snorkelling off the jetty can be challenging at times unless you are a strong swimmer. There is a guided turtle tour every morning at 9am which we did twice, and saw multiple turtles. Snorkelling at Blue Hole 1 and Blue Hole 2 are available with a short walk, but at some tide levels entry to these more sheltered coves is difficult, but again worth it.

Tours rarely if ever ran on time, but we always deeply enjoyed them. Strongly recommend you double check and confirm tours as they were consistently over-booked or under-booked.

Highly recommend this island and resort, one of the best, most relaxing, and well run.

Perfect service. From the time we got there until we left I would say everything was handled pretty top notch. The location is stunning and the amenities perfect, facing the sunset !!!
Wayne, the owner was very approachable and the reception as well organised everything we asked for , including day tours and coordinating with the airport for the late arrival of our luggage.
The pool is fantastic just by the ocean and there are even hammocks down by the beach. It is a rock beach though but doesn’t take anything away from it. The rooms are clean, comfortable and spacious. High ceiling meaning it doesn’t get stuffy at night even with just a fan.
The food and drinks are good. Food is priced on the higher side which is the only issue but then again we are in a resort in the middle of the ocean. Quality is good.
Would definitely recommend for a stress free stay on Tanna Island.
Don’t miss!! With limited light pollution, the stars come out on a clear night!!!

Budget 1 star hotel at best. Dinner options are basic and limited - had no other option but to get the steak. 3800vt for the most over cooked, tasteless food. The most expensive food we ate anywhere in Vanuatu and hands down the worst. “Free breakfast” is fruit, bread or pastries. Anything extra costs money. Budget resort next door includes a free cooked breakfast. Rooms have no aircon, bed was extremely uncomfortable, shower had previous guests hair in it and the toilet wasn’t even flushed from the previous guest. Thanks. Wish we had kept our booking with the budget hotel next door instead of “upgrading” to this one. Other members of the tour stayed at the hotel next door and said it was much better, comfy beds, free cooked breakfast. Clean rooms. Tasty, good selection and well priced dinners. You will find none of the above at Whitegrass.

We stayed 7 nights and loved every moment. Beautiful clean bure with sea views and the most gorgeous tropical gardens. The staff are very friendly and helpful as are all the local people. The restaurant boasts the the most impressive views overlooking the ocean and reefs, sunsets are amazing. The food is beautifully presented and tastes spectacular and most of it is locally grown and sourced. We did a few day trips but were very happy to spend most of our time snorkeling in and around the pristine reefs(blue holes especially). We enjoyed 2 Scuba dives with Max and Jim(Volcano Divers) and were treated to spectacular easy diving. One of our highlights was a tour to see Mt Yasur. This is a must do tour to witness a Volcano up close and personal. Mother nature at her finest!!
This is a place for dreaming, soaking up the sun, fresh air and scenery. Loved every moment.

Beautiful location and very friendly and helpful staff, but it's embarrassing for them to have to apologise for no electricity and to have to give candles to guests. No electricity meant that we couldn't use the facilities that we had paid for, eg hot water, lighting, charging of devices in our cottage, fridge, kettle in our otherwise well equipped kitchen. The generator came on at breakfast and dinner time, but it was very unreliable. Surely, at the premium price they charge their guests, they can afford to install solar panels or buy a decent generator. We were not offered any discount or concessions and this was not just a one off problem, it had been that way for some time.

Thank-you for taking the time to provide your feedback. It is is lovely to hear you found the location beautiful and the staff friendly and helpful. We strive to create a welcoming environment, so we will be certain to pass on the positive feedback to the staff. I understand the interruption to our electricity supply impacted your stay. It was an unexpected interruption, and given the remote nature of the resort on an outer island of the Vanuatu Archipelago, it was not possible to be remedied as swiftly as we would have liked. I am pleased to advise we have a new backup generator arriving on June 12th. We have extensively looked into solar panels and it is an option for the resort that we are actively considering. The electricity interruption impacted the resort intermittently for 8 days. It was due to factors beyond our property. It did highlight to us that we need to upgrade our backup generator, and we have done so. I hope that we can welcome you again one day and provide a seamless and memorable stay on beautiful Tanna.

White Grass is a truly beautiful place and our family of 4 (2 adults, 2 teens) stayed for 7 nights, which gave us plenty of time to relax, read and swim while taking in the breathtaking beauty of the island without feeling the need to rush around every day doing the many interesting tours on offer. Some people only stay only one night to see the volcano but then you miss out on truly relaxing into island life. Breakfast is included and the lunch and dinner menu is delicious, changes daily and is very reasonably priced, particularly given how remote Tanna Island is. The staff are all wonderful, the accommodation is immaculate and the day spa is simply perfect.

Just be prepared for some vagueness about schedules and pricing from Air Vanuatu; we had a delay of 2 days, and ended up flying down on a charter flight with United, but the resort accommodated us no problems.

A great place to stay. They weren't expecting us on arrival but our accommodation was sorted quickly. We dived with Volcano Island Divers. It took Brian and his staff a little while to get the processes happening but it was all done with plenty of laughs and good times were had by all until we ran out of tanks because the dive compressor was broken meaning we missed 2 of our 10 dives. Dave, the resort manager, despite his efforts, couldn't get spares but we were suitably compensated with a Port Resolution grand tour. Philemon our driver was fantastic and knowledgeable and everyone needs to go and see the volcano! People and staff very friendly and any issues were taken care of with a smile and quickly.

These are upgraded open-air beach bungalows that come with a high-end price tag. Not worth it from our experience.

Service was unfriendly and cold.

Grounds were lovely.

Tours are overpriced and lack safety or any tour component. It’s a transport only situation.

One of the pricier places we stayed on the trip but with mediocre quality.

Hi Juliana, we booked the tour from Australia when we booked the accomodation. It cost $AUD 200 each. There are cheaper tours but we valued being inside the cabin a very roadworthy vehicle, rather than being tossed around while sitting in the tray of an old utility. We flew from Port Vila to Tanna by Air Vanuatu. A small plane, but not scary. There is a 200 VT domestic tax each way that you have to pay at the airport (approx $ AUD25). Even though it is expensive because it is remote, you should definitely go!!! Hope this helps.
