Beautiful building, great location, views from our rooms overlooking the Danube & Freedom bridge were splendid. However the rooms and beds & bathrooms are way overdue for a refurbishment. Staff v. Good.

If you want to stay in a bit of history then this is the hotel for you. We stayed for one night only had amazing views and huge old school room. Yes a bit dated but heaps of character .A bit of a spruce up is needed but easily forgiven.

Unfortunately we did not stay in this hotel this time - but we attended the bath and the cafe. The bath can be attended by hotel guests and visitors as well as all the other facilities(massages etc) The experience is unique - very elegant and stylish hotel with special events all year round.

The Danubius Hotel Gellert lived up to our expectations. Its location on the Buda side of the Danube, close to a transport hub and to a wooded hillside where nightingales sing, and with a thermal spa next door, is splendid. From there we revisited haunts last encountered in 1969.

The Danubius Hotel Gellert is a beautiful, historic hotel by the Danube, within walking distance to most landmarks and attractions around Budapest. The famous Gellert baths are also within the hotel complex itself, making a nice plus for staying at the hotel. Staff were friendly and helpful, making my first visit to Budapest a very welcoming one.

Enjoyed trip to Budapest. Stay at Gellert met expectations. Hotel could improve visitor to Budapest experience with some brochures on local sites and activities. Bathing experience not familiar to many visitors and again information on this subject for foreign guests would be helpful.

There may be many newer and more modern hotels on Bupapest, but I think none can rival the Gellert's classic style. After 99 years this famous Art Deco building is showing its age, but this is more than offset by wonderful service, great food and the pools and spa complex. The room cost is very low for the location of...

Away with the girls in Budapest. Hotel very large, rooms clean and spacious if a bit tired. Breakfast super and service very good. Spa was a great experience. Room overlooking the river Danube was super. Great position for sight seeing Buda and Pest.

Picture yourself living in an old castle with much history and beauty. Then go down the spiral stairs to dine at an opulent resto that overlooks the Liberty bridge. As you step outside the hotel, you can walk directly to the metro station, or stroll along the famed Danube River. Take your pic. Freedom from stress and want, indeed!

Staying in Gellert Hill

Neighbourhood Profile
Gellert Hill
If you want to treat your camera to some amazing scenery, Gellért Hill is a must on your itinerary. A funicular journey from the Chain Bridge along the hillsides provides a fast connection between Buda and Pest, hoisting visitors to panoramic vistas. Once on top of the hill, you’ll find the Citadel dominate the landscape with its imposing 19th century construction, a site that’s hard to keep your eyes on without being distracted by the phenomenal view over the Danube and the eight bridges crossing. Once on Gellért Hill however, one mustn’t miss the famous Gellért Baths. Budapest is renown for its thermal waters and its baths, and the Gellért Baths are housed in an impressive art nouveau structure. Its interior design, with its many mosaics, recalls the preceding relationships the city has had with healing springs and saunas, traditionally used within this neighborhood since the Ottoman Empire.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Art Nouveau style Danubius Hotel Gellert first opened its doors in 1918, and has long been an iconic Budapest landmark that has even featured in Hollywood films. Its stately building, at the foot of the Gellert hill, also houses the world-famous Gellert Baths, which include an outdoor pool with the original wave-generating device installed in 1927. Over the years, some famous names have stayed at the Gellert – including American presidents and European royalty – and the hotel retains the elegant atmosphere of a bygone age. Guests can enjoy superb cuisine at the Panorama Restaurant or Gellert Brasserie, and take advantage of wellness treatments and medical programmes at the adjacent Gellert Baths. Furthermore, the hotel is the perfect base for exploring, located next to one of Budapest’s most beautiful bridges and a short walk from Pest’s Great Market Hall and shopping streets. ... more   less
