We stayed here on Friday and Saturday nights and that was a big mistake. There is a restaurant and a Karaoke bar above your room, so when they start singing at nine o´clock in the evening, it is impossible to sleep. If you are in Krakow just for party, then the place is great for you, because it is very calm during the day, but incredibly loud at night. Apart from the fact that it was not the cleanist place (probably because it is a boat), the staff did not even try to remove the spiders from the bathroom. The staff was also not very kind as they are mainly waiters and they concentrate on the restaurant and the bar. I do not understand how anyone can consider this place for renting to tourists who after a long day of sightseeing want to rest for the night! I would never go here again...

Totally surprised that this didn't happen to other travellers, but I am totally infuriated with my stay at this place.

When booking this place, the idea of staying at a boat sounded perfect. I never go to hostels because I have a week sleep and hate people waking me up. For that reason, I chose one of their single bedrooms.

Arriving at the boat, I was looking for the reception until somebody (employee or guest?) told me that the reception is actually the bar counter at the boat annex. The place looked almost totally unattended, wasn't it for the girl behind the bar counter (meaning, thieves can come and go as they please)

As an experienced visitor to Eastern Europe, I know that Polish credit card machines offer the "convenience" to the customer of choosing between local or customer's currency, always at a rate favourable to THEM. Aware of the rip off, I was quite surprised that the lady at the bar/reception showed me an EUR amount asking me for my PIN, which I obviously declined, because I wanted to pay in local money. Doing little to conceal her irritation (throwing pen at the counter and other rude gestures), she phoned their credit card customer service, who said that machine had no such choice. I then reluctantly accepted. On the receipt, I realized later, one can read see "I the customer, acknowledge that I have been given the option between paying in local currency and my own currency", which is a lie.

The bedroom itself was not bad, and reasonably clean. But half of the boat is quite exposed toa busy street, and privacy is obtained at detriment of ventilation, and on a hot day, the place is more like a sauna.

There is a kitchen and a mixed bathroom, where you can see lots of spiders.

I wasn't in Cracow for tourism, but more on a party weekend with friends. So at first, all the noise didn't annoy me so much. On my way out, I made sure I locked my bedroom well and left. Of course the window didn't close completely. When arriving at 5 the next morning, the bridges to the boat where lifted, with the exception of one, which I crossed and had to jump the fence and the chains, that nobody explained me would be there. During that morning, I woke up several times, with the noise on the street, the noise of people walking heavily on the deck above, the noise of the rusty metal parts of the boat rocking, etc etc.

And the 2nd day was a repeat.

Finally, after 2 nights partying and with a flight early the next morning, I decided to go to bed early on the 3rd day. It turns out that the boat bar was also a NIGHT CLUB, that started pumping loud music from 11 in the evening until 2 am., when this guest, completely infuriated, decided to walk to the bar and ask for the manager. Obviously the answer was "he's home, I am only the barman". But after creating a scandal at the place, finally the music stopped, and I could sleep the remaining 2 hours.

N-E-V-E-R A-G-A-I-N!!!

In late September I stayed in Barca Basia. The cost for three nights was £44 so this is dirt cheap accommodation. The boat is very simple, you have a locked room with a bed. It was clean and simple. There is one communal washing area with a sink two showers and two loos. The area is not gender specific so I guess as a female guest could find it a little difficult, but I am sure most hostel guests get used to things like this. It can be a little noisy as things echo on boats and your stay will be governed by how quiet other guests are! The boat has a bar pontoon attached which can be a little noisy but the noise doesn't seem to drift into the boat too much. The staff were engaging and polite, very helpful and spoke very good English. The location is fine, very close to tram stops, and a very short walk to the Jewish area of the town. As a simple place to sleep it is great and if I do a city trip to Krakow again I would use it again.
Thank Garry H
