U Mecenase – a family residence and restaurant is located at the House of the Golden Lion on Prague’s most picturesque tourist route known as the Royal Walk where coronation pageants paraded for centuries. There is hardly a better place to start exploring the historic centre of Prague than Lesser Town Square, the main square of the Lesser Town. The House of the Golden Lion, dating back to 1608, is built on top of gothic cellars and is the only remaining building with a renaissance core on the Lesser Town Square. A cosy family residence is hidden within the historic walls, with 8 brand new apartments and a newly refurbished restaurant offering excellent Czech cuisine. The charming family residence and restaurant is located within just 2-minute walk from the Charles Bridge and features wonderful views of the Prague Castle and the Church of St. Nicholas, Prague’s finest piece of baroque architecture.
Places to stay are graded on a 0-100 scale. The higher the grade, the easier it is for travellers to find restaurants and things to do within walking distance.

Characterful spacious apartment, great location, immaculately clean, with every amenity provided. The staff were all very helpful, both before and during our visit, and we appreciated the daily 'light' housekeeping, and the opportunity to order a freshly prepared breakfast basket for delivery to the apartment. We would also recommend the restaurant situated on the ground floor of the residence. Our stay in Prague was undoubtedly enhanced by staying in Residence U Macanese and we would love to return. Book direct for the best price and access to private transfer bookings and breakfast pre ordering :)

We loved staying at this hotel. We arrived late at night and they were brilliant at communicating beforehand to make sure that we had all the information we needed to get the keys to our room so we could head straight to bed. The breakfast basket was the highlight of our stay, everything was fresh and delicious and meant that we could be flexible with when we got up. It also meant that we saved so much money as we could just take leftover food with us for lunch. By the end of the trip we had enough food to make lunches for the rest of the people we were on holiday with! The bed was comfy, the location was excellent and meant we could walk everywhere (we had friends staying at the Hilton and they had to get Ubers everywhere) and the staff were so welcoming. I would love to stay here again!

We spent three nights at the Residence U Mecenáše in early September. We had to cancel our initial trip to Prague because of the global pandemic and shutdowns and had received a credit for our deposit, which we were finally able to use. We could not have picked a nicer place to stay in Prague. The manager we worked with initially, was able to arrange transport from the airport to the apartment, (for an added fee), but it was nice that we did not have to tackle driving in the city, and very convenient. Once we arrived, there was no need for a car as we could walk everywhere we needed to go. The apartments are located in the historical center of Prague. The castle is up the hill from Residence U Mecenáše , and the old Charles bridge was just down the street. There are numerous restaurants and shops within walking distance. We were in the attic apartment, and consequently, lots of stairs to climb, but it was quiet and comfortable. The apartment had stove top, microwave, refrigerator, coffee maker and utensils, if we had wanted to find food to bring back – actually a great idea for breakfast. Our attic apartment had yet another set of stairs up to the bedroom itself. While we didn’t mind the steep stairs up to the bed, it is a consideration when booking this particular room, especially as the bathroom is located on the first floor of the apartment, and we had to climb down the steep stairs to use the bathroom at night. The apartment included many old beams, perhaps some from the original 1608 building?, and it had a view from the small window, of a prominent church in the square that was lit up at night. The bathroom had newer amenities and shower. For us, the apartment was perfect for our needs and located in a lovely old part of the city. Also of note, the apartment manager was able to arrange transport for us when we left, to the countryside, about 1 ½ hours outside of Prague, where we were headed, and the same taxi driver was able to pick us up there and return us to the airport on the day we left the Czech Republic. A highly recommended stay in Prague

Went to Prague for my wife’s 50th birthday in March 23. In-house taxi service (for a reasonable fee) picked us up at the airport. Great start. Stunning grand apartments in the heart of Prague. The apartment was huge and tastefully furnished. Comfy beds and first class facilities. Breakfast hampers were delicious. Service was discreet friendly and efficient. Restaurant downstairs was outstanding and good value. Can’t fault it and everything on your doorstep to sight see in this historical charming European City. Thank-you for a wonderful stay and experience.

We have now stayed at Residence U Mecenase on 4 different occasions over the last 2 or 3 years. Each time has been a different sort of trip, so each time we have had a different room depending on the circumstances of our trip. I can honestly say that every time I have been delighted with not only the quality and cleanliness of the accommodation, but also the customer service offered by the whole staff and management. From the welcome at check in, friendly advice and recommendations during our stay, arranging transport, taking care of luggage if we have to check in early or check out late, nothing seems too much trouble. The location is fantastic on the Mala Strana, which is the quieter side of Charles Bridge, but still well in walking distance of all the major sights and attractions. Try ordering the breakfast, it is a fantastic assortment of fresh and local produce and the price is so reasonable you really shouldn’t even try to find better anywhere else! Our next visit is in a few days time and we really can’t wait. I cannot emphasise how much I rate the whole experience of staying at the beautiful, clean, historical Residence U Mecenase!

The apartment was incredibly comfortable. Our best sleep in Europe in two weeks. We were in apartment 9 which had the main, spacious floor with kitchenette, bathroom and main sleeping are, plus an upstairs attic space bedroom where our adult son slept. The apartment was very quiet, clean, and well appointed. Satellite TV allowed us to keep up with news from home. The staff was very helpful and friendly. The apartment is located in Lesser Town just below Prague Castle and a 5 minute walk to the Charles Bridge. There are lots of restaurants and cafes in the area as well as a tram stop for numerous tram lines. A perfect location.

We stayed for three nights in a three bedroom unit. It was updated with modern conveniences such as air conditioning, clothes washer, microwave, bathrooms, etc. while keeping historic charm. The beautifully painted wooden beamed ceilings are preserved to showcase the lovely past of the unit. We had 6 people in our group. Two people per bedroom and two and a half baths was a dream! The price was comparable to the cost of two rooms and a nice hotel with so much more to offer.
Owner was very helpful in setting up transportation to and from airport. Quiet area between Charles Bridge and Castle. Many great restaurants in the area and across the street from St. Nicholas church (Mala Strana). Easy walk to Old Town across the bridge. Got groceries at Biomarket down the road.
There are stairs to climb with no elevator. Security is good with a key needed to get to the stairs from outside and keyed doors. Book directly through them for a discount or free wine. We didn't take them on the breakfast they offer through their restaurant below, but it is available for a fee. Very clean premises with plenty of towels for the unit.

If you are reading this review it is because you are going to Prague soon! and how lucky you are! As for the U Mecenase residence, it is perfect in every way!!!! Ideally located as a starting point for all visits to the superb city of Prague, very friendly and helpful staff, top cleanliness, fantastic view (we were in a duplex apartment with a view of Saint Nicholas Church), the decoration is perfect without overdoing it, the kitchenette lacked nothing, everything you needed available, even a dishwasher!!!, The only downside is the stairs...going up to the 3rd floor after a day of visiting is physical!!!! but no one can do anything about it, you should definitely not put an elevator in this place. We were able to leave our suitcases at the reception (office) on the day of departure because we were taking off in the afternoon. The residence's restaurant is really very good, I highly recommend it, we had dinner there 2 evenings, very good, Czech cuisine, and very friendly staff. Some people say that the hotel is not important during a stay because you only spend a little time there, and well, I don't agree, it counts a lot in the appreciation of a trip and even If Prague is a city that we found exceptional and far from the “city of the East” cliché, our accommodation counts in the balance! I really recommend the residence!

The property located in the 16th Century building has been completely updates. The bathroom fittings and bedrooms were very modern and spacious while maintaining old-world charm. Kitchenette was very well equipped with a grocery store close by if you wanted to cook (we didnt). Coffee maker was a game-changer and well supplied. All the staff and ownership were super helpful and friendly with getting parking permits, directions, supplied etc. Loved the place and will be back for sure.
