Welcome to the Bujtina Polia of Pavlin Nard Polia and family! We live in the center of the small mountain village of Theth, in the heart of the Albanian Alps. We are looking forward to introducing you to the warm hospitality, hearty cuisine and breathtaking scenery this region is famous for! Our traditional stone house has 10 bedrooms The rooms are located on the first and second floors and offer beautiful views to all sides of the valley. On the ground floor we have a large dining room where breakfast, lunch and dinner are served. Also, there is a terrace in front of the house for sitting, chatting and taking meals outside. If you require any additional services, we can organise guiding, transport or horse rental (for horse riding or luggage transfer). On top of that, we are happy to give advice about hiking trails and destinations. We are located right in the center of Theth, just next to the church of the village, which makes for an ideal base for exploring the village and actually most of the hikes that can be done in the area. The kulla (blood feud tower), old corn mill and neighbourhood of Ulaj are in close promixity. Furthermore, a leisurely 40 minutes to the South you can explore the Grunasi waterfall and canyon. The trailhead for the transfer hike to Valbona is located 10 minutes walking time to the North from here. Our guesthouse is located about 100m from the church, which is in Theth's center ("Qender"). If coming from Shkoder, follow the road that leads into the village until you cross the bridge. After crossing the bridge, turn right and follow the road, to your left you will see the school, a large red building. 500m from there you will arrive at a junction where you will need to keep left. The road makes a bend to the right and goes a little uphill - you will already see the church now. Once at the church, keep right. Our house is the one with the dark red/burgundy roof. Arriving from Valbona via Valbona Pass, follow the signs to the center of Theth, find the school, and follow directions as described above. Driving from Shkoder to Theth is roughly a 75km/3h drive. Take the outward road towards Koplik (SH1) and turn right after 15km at the roundabout where Theth is signposted. Keep following the main road, which will lead you through the villages of Dedaj and Boga and over the Buni i Thores Pass until it takes you down to Shala commune and to the village of Theth. Please note that the road from Boga onwards is only accessible for off-road, high-clearance vehicles! If you're using public transport, there are daily minibuses from Shkoder to Theth, which leave at the Sheshi Ura e Maxharrit at the Northern end of Shkoder. They depart between 6am and 8am, so be sure to be there early. For any problems with finding places: For the whole of Albania, directions might not be available in the most organised way, but any person on the street will be happy to assist you with finding your way - don't hesitate to ask!

The location is lovely and once upon a time this small hotel would have been the owners house - now it has expanded to be in several buildings with everyone eating in one room. The expansion has probably brought challenges in how to build well and this shows with showers that do not drain but maybe that is the small price to pay to hike the lovely mountains. Food excellent but booze very expensive (compared to Albanian norms). The valley now has a tarmac road all the way and the challenges will get greater as more people visit.

Very hard to understand the good reviews. On the plus side the food at dinner is indeed excellent if the same every evening. Be prepared to be ignored however when it comes to ordering drinks or understanding why rakia is offered to some guests and not others. Breakfast is average with no cooked options. Packed lunches are very poor. The owner has been on a number of TV programmes and unfortunately this seems to have gone to his head as he is more interested in playing court rather than actually taking care of hotel services. The bathrooms are a disgrace: poor quality fittings often falling off, toiletries a random selection of half-finished products which other guests have left behind; would be much better (and more hygienic) not to provide any at all. Rooms in the annex to avoid if at all possible. Wifi is hit and miss.

We picked the perfect inn to experience this wonderful place, Theth. Bujtina Polia has such character and a variety of rooms. We were in the separate building that reminded us of cabins. Nice size room, bed very comfortable, hot water. Sometimes there are brief power outages in the entire village and this may affect WiFi; otherwise it was dependable. This inn is right in the village which is what we wanted so we could experience this adorable place. It’s close to the emerald green river - just beautiful. Close to hikes that we took advantage of. The inn is laid out very well and the large, open dining area is terrific with large windows and views all around, including outdoor seating and dining. And the dinner - delicious and so much food. The included breakfast - very good. The cook is superb. And we must mention Alfred. You may get to meet this impressive man who we liked instantly. Such a gentleman and he may be the person to greet you when you arrive. He overseas the dining area and also helps with information and tips. The owner certainly knows how to run this inn. Everyone here has been friendly too. So, we definitely recommend that you stay at Bujtina Polia when you visit Theth. What a remarkable part of the world and this inn was perfect for us - and you. (They are animal lovers - the dogs are precious.)

The service was the best with the conditions. the rooms were warm, comfy and had a great view. The location was well-chosen and I couldn't stop looking at the church and the mountainside. The hosts were kind enough to show us the hiking map and tell us the directions. On the second day, we started hiking to the waterfall and the canyon one of the dogs at Bujtina Polia somehow followed us and came back with us. This was a vacation of a lifetime.
