Stayed here for 4 nights at the beginning of our trip to Costa Rica. If you haven't been to CR before, might suggest saving this to the end of your trip so you can appreciate just how amazing it is, in comparison. We saw more wildlife on the walk to our room on the first day than the entire remainder of our trip. Sloth in a tree near the entrance. Viper napping near the pool. Monkeys eating coconuts by the restaurant. Toucans outside our room entrance. That was in the first 20 minutes of being on the property. Highly recommend the Corcovado tour, Pigs & Twigs, night hike, and a walk to the waterfall (if you go on your own and not on the tour, chances are good of having it to yourself). Magical! The staff are rightfully proud of all of the work that goes into helping visitors experience the splendor of the Osa with minimal impact on the environment. Love that the new owners share these ideals and have maintained the integrity and mission of the property. A little quiet/sleepy perhaps for families with kids, or if you are expecting a raucous resort experience. But if you can relax and soak up the natural beauty, you are in for a treat. Evening thunderstorms in the cool open-air villas were spectacular. Just go. You will not regret it.

Our luxe 4 night stay at beautifully designed Lapa Rios was amazing. Villa 12 is a magnificent space with a huge deck, indoor and outdoor showers, a plunge pool and spectacular view of the Pacific-- a wonder of natural design and comfort, including a mysterious silent cooling device over the bed. June starts rainy season; we had beautiful mornings/mid-days in the upper 80s with dramatic showers on 2 evenings and gorgeous stars on others-- great to watch from our open-air villa, deck or pool. Magically, excellent coffee appeared at 4:45am, before the vivid sunrises. (Howlers are the wakeup call.) We came over-prepared for intense heat, humidity, monsoons, scorpions, swarms of mosquitos. LOL. Yes, it’s humid with a long pathway/steep steps to 12, but the engaging staff happily gave lifts to meals and activities whenever we needed/wanted it. Never a bug bite. Food is delicious, plentiful and fresh. Staff works seamlessly to please guests of all ages/backgrounds/interests. (Kids & teens looked happy and engaged; birders satisfied.) Red macaws, toucans, parrots, sloths, Morpho butterflies, etc. abound. We did activities on site, and also relaxed. The naturalist on hikes and waterfalls swims had an astonishing breadth, and coordinated a last-minute request for an afternoon at the beach. (Other guests said the Bioluminescence, Night Tours and boat trip to Corcovado were absolute must-dos.) Great cocktails and desserts in the evenings. Lapa Rios is SO memorable. Worth every penny.

Hola from all of us at Lapa Rios Lodge! Glad that you got to experience our amazing Lapa Villas, the plunge pool is a treat to relax and enjoy the amazing views of our lush southern Pacific coast. You did find Nirvana in Costa Rica! Early morning risers will benefit of the sunrises, howler monkeys are in charge of the wake up call! ;) It seems your family had a chance to fully experience Lapa Rios and the exotic Osa Peninsula and its fauna, rainforest and beaches. And thank you for your kind comments about our professional, knowledgeable and friendly staff. We hope to have you back at Lapa Rios in the future and at any other of our sister lodges, Boena Wilderness Lodges.

I have read the previous reviews and don’t need to add more on how incredible Lapa Ríos is. I’ll use this review to focus on the human aspect instead. I traveled for work and visited many family businesses. I knew I was at a well managed business when employees stay a long time. Edwin and Chevo have 26 years with Lapa Ríos. Many others have been with the hotel for a long time. This vast experience translates to the amazing level of service received. Do know that most the staff lives in Puerto Jiménez and get home at 11pm. They then have to get on the bus back again at 4am. Staff puts in a tremendous effort for our comfort.

Hello Diego! Thank you for your very generous review and focus on our amazing staff including Edwin and Chevo. Our staff at Lapa Rios and our other 3 sister lodges is one of the key elements to our success. We have a strong commitment to them as members of our community and not just as employees. Just to clarify the working hours, we have two shifts of staff members each the day, (6am-2 pm and 2 pm-10pm), each one works 8 hours per day. We hope to have you again in the near future!

This resort is phenomenal. If you want a real Costa Rica Experience and not that of a chain hotel that you can get on any Caribbean island, this is the place. I can’t stay enough good things about the staff and how professional and well trained they are. The customer service is a ten; as is the food. Most everything is locally sourced and you choose from the daily menu earlier in the day as it is prepared on demand. The head chef is a very young woman who cooks with the experience I have a 40 year veteran. The rooms/ cabins are perfect with breathtaking views of sunrise as they are facing east. I had coffee delivered each morning at 5 AM and was on my private secluded deck watching the sunrise listening to the howler monkeys each morning by 5:30. The excursions offered are not the cruise ship style canned adventure but significantly more personable. Too, the free excursions offered on the property by the five or so full-time nature guides are wonderful. They have adventure for every level of fitness, but one can choose to do a significant amount of hiking and see every creature on the Osa Peninsula as well as beautiful waterfalls. It is not inexpensive, but you certainly get what you pay for. My wife and I will most definitely be back for another visit.

Our amazing staff is something we are very proud of, they are an essential part of making Lapa Rios a success every day. A cup of freshly brewed Costa Rica coffee is a must for early risers such as you to enjoy our spectacular sunrises, vistas and the sounds of the rainforest waking up. This is beautiful and isolated eco lodge. We are a couple in our 70's and went with our 14 year old grandson. The staff is unbelievable and accommodating. Highest regards for the 5 rangers. They accommodated all of our requests and carefully planned trips to allow for our physical abilities. The food was excellent and well presented. After long walks and lots of bird watching and rainforest experiences it was great to come back to the lodge for a glass of fresh juice and the smiles of the staff. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. There is no air conditioning but lots of fans and ventilation. Do be prepared to walk up and down both in the rainforest and between the rooms and lodge. Great for families and couples -- kids should probably be 8 or older. While the pool is wonderful and wifi works well there is no TV. The combination of nature, great staff, and the ability to learn and grow is exceptional.
