We decided to visit Minjerribah (North Stradbroke) at the last moment and were lucky enough to get a few nights in Sea Shanties at Amity Point. The cabins are well appointed with everything you could need for a self contained stay. The whole cabin is screened for insects, the bed is comfortable, walk in shower with instant hot water is perfect after a day at the beach. There’s a kettle, toaster, microwave and induction cooktop. A reasonable sized TV is in your cabin - wifi is not that good but, bring a book and enjoy a digital detox.
The cabins look onto channel, with seats to relax in and watch the local dolphins play. They swim past day and night. There’s also a really good camp kitchen that’s well equipped and very good barbecues available to use. There’s even an espresso machine. It’s walking distance to the cafe, general store and the jetty, where a swimming enclosure has been netted. We loved Sea Shanties and hope to return next summer.

We had such a wonderful relaxing holiday here. The cabins are small but very comfortable and the whole ambience is wonderful. Dolphins every evening and koalas right outside the front door! We even caught fish right there 😊 Cooking facilities are available in the cabins (if basic) but the communal camp kitchen has everything you could possibly need. Thoroughly recommend but Cabin 1 is the best.

Beautiful cabin accomodation. Lovely, clean and pups allowed. Bandicoots, Koalas and all sorts live in the trees. Can't wait to come back. Great view from the kitchen.
Kids loved it. We were stranded after being blown off main beach by the wind and sand. Awesome place.

Sea Shanty’s is a wonderful and cute place. Simple, quaint, quirky and exceptionally clean. You feel comfortable and welcome from the moment you arrive. Koalas and dolphins a few steps away from your cabin. Everything you need in one place with a magical sunset every-night. Thank you Jane and the team for all of your hard work.

I first came to Sea Shanties a few years ago for my sisters wedding and have made a few trips back since. My sister booked the whole place out for the weekend and it was the perfect spot for a reception + accom for about 30 guests. The couple who run it are very cool, and really go out of their awy to help you. Cannot beat the location, right on the water, and snorkelling right off the rockwall, and spot dolphins almost every day. There is also a resident Koala (or two?) living on the grounds.
Sea Shanties has 8 cabins in total I think, but they are pretty well spaced so you get good privacy. Each cabin has its own kitchenette, which has everything you need to self cater. I recommend you buy your groceries/beer on the mainland though (Cleveland has everything you need) - as food is defiantely more expensive on Stradbroke.
Amity is bit quieter than Point Lookout (where most of the tourists go on Straddie) but I still love Amity, no traffic, very laid back, and still pretty much everything you need (beach, tennis court, parks etc) & only a 15 minute drive to Point Lookout when you want a surf beach, or have fish & chips etc.

We visited Sea Shanties in October. The location and accomodation were lovely. I was travelling alone with my young son and no car. I would not recommend this as the buses are infrequent and I encountered a particularly bitter driver one day who I had to travel in the bus alone with. Despite calling ahead to ensure I would easily find a meal on my first night, we had cheese sandwiches because it turned out the cafe was closed, as was the (open 7 days) fish shop which I walked to with my 3 year old asleep in a carrier (heavy!). I'd highly recommend that Sea Shanties provide a little walking map of the area with distances and opening times of eating facilities. It's an easy amble for most but challenging if you have any limitations (ie kids or health issues). Toys in the communal area were scant, with Lego banned as it is apparently dangerous. There is no secure fencing so it really isn't kid friendly if you have young children. Owners watched me haul my toddler and suitcases to the bus stop without offering a ride. I've written this review for parents travelling alone with kids. I've stayed in many child/parent friendly places & I wouldn't put Sea Shanties in that category. But if you heading out with your dog, car and a fishing rod, it's a peaceful place to be.

Sea Shanties is a special place that should be kept a secret. Imagine .. sitting on a grassy lawn, watching the children play and trying not to jump out of your seat because a dolphin is passing you by. Or standing on the jetty and watching a ballet in the water below you being performed by mantarays. This is a place that magic is made of. The shanties are exactly what you would expect. Small, convenient and recently refurbished. Not alot of room to share with your three other 'roomies' but who wants to spend time indoors when you have a giant tree outside with a swing in it, other guests to chat to, tiny fish to mesmerise you on the jetty and lovely hosts to make sure you have a relaxing time. Bliss .. and best of all .. you can take your best friend (the dog) so they get to run around and be themselves as well!

This little holiday village is truly one of the best kept secrets on the coast of Queensland, Australia. Previously known as " The Old Fishing Village " the second world war " Huts " have been completely refurbished recently into gorgeous units complete with en suite bathrooms and a communal kitchen has been built to allow guests to do their own cooking if they wish. There are resident dolphins, koalas, sea eagles and curlews as well as a few people. There is no pressure to do anything. Throw a fishing line in, read a book on the front lawn, get a sun tan, watch TV, have a Bar-B, go for a surf......... whatever takes your fancy.

My husband and I spent three very relaxing days at Sea Shanties, together with our Labrador. We stayed in cottage number 5, which is a waterfront cottage situated about 15 metres from the water separated by a lovely green lawn. Many happy moments were spent just sitting outside the cottage looking out upon the beautiful blue water, with the occasional dolphin swimming by. In the late afternoon the resident koala climbed up into the gum tree for an evening feed. There is a pier out the front of the property - a great place to throw in a fishing line. A short walk down the road is a magnificent sandy beach, although not suitable for swimming in due to sharks. But if you want to swim there are plenty of beaches to drive to. With your dog, Home Beach is perfect. The cottage itself was very comfortable. Everything you need - microwave, cooking utensils, cooktops etc and there is also a community barbeque area. Also within walking distance is a seafood restaurant that does takeaways, but on both nights that we were there it was closed...but hopefully next time. The managers are so friendly and helpful. We are already planning to return again soon.

Our family of 5 (3 kids, ages 5-15) stayed here for 3 nights and loved it. Super relaxing but lively atmosphere. Classic white comfortable clean beach cabins w clever modern and space-saving touches. Amazing top of the line outdoor kitchen, fully stocked for large mutli-family gatherings. Large covered outdoor recreation room w TV and loads of great books. Lyn and Neil are wonderful down-to-earth hosts. Would have stayed longer if available. Would come again despite our long travel wish-list!

Not really. It’s a 20-30 min drive from ferry wharf to Sea Shanties. Not sure about any bus service there.
Once at Sea Shanties you can walk just a few mins to a nice cafe/restaurant and the general store which is well stocked. Plenty of walking tracks to beaches etc.
