Nestled in the Blue Mountains, the Hydro Majestic Hotel is celebrated for its luxurious charm and prime location, with guests frequently lauding the picturesque views and proximity to local attractions. The service at the hotel is often described as commendable, with staff known for their attentiveness. However, some visitors caution that the value proposition is diminished by overpriced dining and lackluster meal quality.
While the cleanliness of the hotel garners appreciation, opinions on the rooms are divided, with complaints about size and obstructed views. Amenities are generally well-received, despite occasional service inconsistencies.

The road work outside the motel made entry and exit difficult. The entry drive was very rough and my car scraped each time. I appreciate the roadwork is not the motel’s fault. Our room was the furthest from reception and the eating areas .It was a long way to walk with or without luggage and there was no offer of assistance despite the fact that I use a walking stick. Signage was lacking. We purchased a Luxury Escape package for 2 nights which included daily breakfast , one high tea and one evening meal. We enjoyed the High Tea although it was very expensive. Our first evening we had dinner in the Wintergarden Restaurant at our expense. The entree was ordinary, the wine outrageously expensive and the main course duck and lamb back strap inedible. The waiter passed on our concerns to the Maître De who apologised. Our room was very small and the bathroom was freezing. There were no safety rails in the shower which was over the bath . It was very unsafe. Our included meal the next evening was better but be aware that any side dish with the main course is EXTRA . The buffet breakfast is ordinary to say the least and the so called complimentary sparkling wine included in the package was truly awful. The views are magnificent. The staff were excellent but if you are looking for a luxury getaway I cannot recommend the Hydro Majestic. It trades on its iconic status and history. Don’t waste your time and money.

Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback. We understand how the roadwork and the distance to your room made your visit challenging, especially given your need for a walking stick. My husband and I enjoyed our 3 night stay at the well located historic Hydro Majectic. We stayed in one of the heritage rooms, which was comfortable and spacious enough to serve our needs. The bed was comfortable, and the bathroom was spacious with lovely bath products, luxurious towels, and a great shower. The only suggestion would be to mount the TV on the wall opposite the bed to allow for more comfortable viewing. The view from the large window was breathtaking. The staff at every level were friendly, professional, and attentive. We enjoyed dinner at Wintergarten restaurant and a high tea also. We loved the convenience of having the hotels buffet breakfast, which offered all that was required for breakfast in a lovely Belgravia lounge and dining area. A wonderful 3 night stay offering us the location to access good food, historic villages, scenic drives, and hikes as well as a lovely wine or cocktail to help celebrate our anniversary.

A 2 night stay booked via Luxury Escapes. The package included a hight tea, a guided history tour, buffet breakfast with sparkling wine each morning. We booked a Belgravia Valley View room. Room was clean , roomy enough , with tea and coffee making facilities. There are a couple of flights of stairs to carry your bags to your room. No stairs request can be made at booking time. Parking was easy even with the massive roadworks taking place directly in front of the hotel. Be careful when entering the hotel carpark from the Highway , as it is easy to miss the two temporary entrance points nearest the check in area. Beautiful building. The staff were all courteous and helpful. Our guided tour was hosted by "Robert". The tour lasted for one hour. Very informative and Robert was happy to answer any questions , even by those guests who seem to always insist on asking weird questions. We were recommended to visit Megalong Valley Tea Rooms and ask for the Apple Pie. The coffee, service and the awesome apple pie were worth the visit over a very bumpy road down to the valley. Check out was easy.

My wife and I stayed for two nights (Sunday and Monday) for our 39th wedding anniversary. When I booked the room, I also ordered a plate of chocolate dipped strawberries, On arrival to our room, we found a big plate with 10 strawberries dipped in gold, white and dark chocolate and it was a great surprise for my wife. Our Belgravia Valley View Suite was unique, in that it had no adjoining walls with any other room, it was located on the 2nd Floor and it had 3 windows looking out onto the Megalong Valley. I understand it is the only room in the hotel with 3 windows. Our only concern with the room is that we didn't have a good size, chest of drawers for our clothes, as we like to unpack our bags, when we stay longer than overnight. There is no lift, so to get the room you need to use the stairs. We only had overnight bags, so that was not a difficulty for us. The room has been upgraded as far as we could see from the furnishings, especially the bathroom with the triangular spa, vanity and mirrors. Breakfast was located at the bottom of the stairs in the reception / bar area, so it was easy to get around. On our first morning the low number of guests allowed us an a-la-carte breakfast which catered for our every need and was quite enjoyable. On the second day we had the buffet. The length of the grounds along the Great Western Highway is 1.1 kilometres, so you can get a few thousand steps walking each way. There is a tennis court in the grounds, but no pool or spa. Apart from bush walking, the ambiance of the historic hotel and the glorious food, and watching the everchanging skies from fine to stormy weather, you will need to travel away from the hotel for anything else. We ate our anniversary dinner at the Wintergarden Restaurant and were delighted with the exciting, fine dining experience. The design, presentation, taste and colour of our 3 course meals were exemplary and a dinner here is highly recommended. There are nice decorations around the hotel, especially the large format, black and white, photographs of the renovations, located in our room and the hallways of the residential sections of the hotel. I would suggest that hotel does not cater for children as there are no play areas, it is really only an adults domain with great food and wine available most of the day. Nevertheless, a stay in this magnificent, historical hotel, is most highly recommended.

So disappointing, beautiful location and views but the service was so slow, our English breakfast tea came, and 30 minutes later when our tea was finished we asked where is the food, lots of empty tables but short staffed. Eventually the food came, it was tasteless , not worth $60 each. • Scones ok, crumbly and left a bicarbonate after taste. •You can find a better savoury selection at 7 Eleven, and cheaper. The sausage roll was cold, hard and not a sausage roll. • the sweets were custard and jelly like, probably catering to the large Asian palate, no French high tea patisserie in sight.
Don’t go to eat, enjoy the view not the tourist trap, buy your food up the road or anywhere else.

We had a midweek getaway, arriving Wednesday and leaving Thursday. May, at reception, was most accommodating and quickly offered to have someone take our luggage to our room on the 2nd floor in the Belgravia Rooms. We found the room and the bed most comfortable. It was lovely to have free reign and be able to explore all around the the total premises, enjoying the fabulous views of the Megalong Valley and the art work scattered throughout. Our highlight was to have a window table in the Wintergarden for dinner, enjoying watching the sun set over the Valley. Vivian was most attentive and helpful with our meal selections and wine recommendations, she helped us to thoroughly enjoy the experience. Prior to our departure the next morning we took a tour of the Hotel with Jim. His knowledge and anecdotes of the Hotel's history and chain of ownership was much appreciated. Our total experience lived up to our expectations of this lovely grand Hotel.

Settled in around 3:30pm last Sunday for my Partner's birthday. Complimentary glass of sparkly for both of us in front of the fire was a damn good start!!
The Good:
Nice room. comfy bed and decent bathroom and accessories. Beautiful dinner in The Wintergarden also by the fire. Awesome buffet breakfast in the bar area. Couldn't eat lunch till 2:30pm we were so satisfied. Wait staff at Wintergarden were fantastic. Very attentive.
The OK:
Rang reception for a corkscrew at around 10pm and they didn't answer. Went downstairs to ask for one and had to explain what a corkscrew was, but eventually got one. For a 4 Star venue the mini bar just had 2 bottles of still water in the fridge. Bit rough lol
The Bad: $30-35 corkage fee at Wintergarden. Unable to access the Balcony overlooking the Megalong
All up though a great late weekend break. Would definitely recommend and return

Our stay was a disaster . Took a deal with Luxury Escapes and I was very disappointed . Firstly no one told us about the road works around/front of hotel. We couldn’t even see the entrance to the hotel . The noise continued until midnight . I upgraded our room - which had frosted windows - no view . We felt very claustrophobic in that tiny room . Bathroom sink had no mixer tap . Wasn’t very clean either . The hotel is run down and no facilities for the elderly . People were dragging suitcases up and down stairs - no lifts . I understand it’s a heritage building but we are in 2024 so for the guests and staff safety need to be modernised . Stairs are everywhere and very narrow stairs/steps -not safe . Surprised no one had a fall yet . Second night we received a room upgrade . That room was bigger but smell of mothballs . Bathtub / shower was that high to climb in an out for a 5 foot person I had trouble to get in and out .Guests are in this hotel all around 60+ years of age . Don’t understand why not considering that to renovate accordingly while still preserving the old world charm of the building . We spent 3 days there and didn’t see 1 supervisor on duty . Remarkable how well the restaurant , front desk and bar run with individual people with no instructions , directions from up above . Must say the dining was superb - had high tea and dinner there and the food , service was outstanding .In my package included 12 pm checkout but at 11 the cleaner was knocking on our door to come in to clean . 11.45 the front desk rang - saying “Good Afternoon “ reminding us to check out . We will come back to eat but to stay ? No Unless renovate it . So sad how badly run down this hotel is . The dome on main building needs painting etc This could be the best hotel in Australia with the best views , best staff if renovate it

Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback. We’re genuinely sorry to hear that your experience did not meet your expectations, and we sincerely apologize for the challenges you faced during your stay. We understand your frustration with the ongoing roadworks and the noise. Unfortunately, external construction is beyond our control, but we recognize how it impacted your arrival and comfort. We are working closely with local authorities to ensure that guests are better informed about this in advance and to minimize the disruption moving forward. We also regret that the room you were initially assigned did not meet your expectations. While our heritage rooms are full of character, we completely understand that they may not always meet the needs of all our guests. We're grateful that you were able to move to a larger room, but we are sorry to hear that there were still issues with the smell and accessibility. In response to your concerns about stairs, we want to clarify that we do have an elevator for accessible guests, located between Cats Allee and the Ballroom, as well as another guest elevator in our Delmonte Wing for easier access to rooms in that area. We are constantly working to ensure our historic building meets modern needs, and we appreciate your feedback as we continue to evaluate how to improve guest comfort and safety. While our last major renovation was completed in 2014, we recognize that some areas may need a refresh. As a heritage-listed property, we are carefully planning updates over the next 1-2 years, with the goal of preserving the unique charm of Hydro Majestic while enhancing the overall guest experience. We also apologize for the inconvenience regarding the 12 PM checkout and the premature knock from housekeeping. This is certainly not the level of service we aim to provide, and we will review our procedures to ensure a more seamless experience in the future. On a positive note, we’re thrilled that you enjoyed the dining experience, particularly the high tea and dinner, as well as the service from our restaurant, bar, and front desk teams. We will be sure to pass along your compliments to them. We appreciate your valuable feedback, as it helps us identify areas where we need to improve. We hope you’ll consider returning in the future and allow us the opportunity to provide you with a much better experience.

Staying two nights on weekend. Relax from work. When we arrived at reception it is combined with a bar, the only bar open on evening. But what a bar for a hotel putting itself out a luxury with touch of nostalgia. Asked for an old fashioned, sorry no, G and T only 3 gins, zero alcohol beer, sorry no. Excuse me have to register guests. No real barman no real bar. As for bar food it is a joke. Not even anything hot or even potato crisps. The cheese board finally chosen was just adequate. The two stars are for dinner which was superb. We bought wine by glass and a bottle. Returned from day out went to reception to order drinks asked for wine we had last night told we couldn’t because ‘this is the reception’ exact words. Clearly none of the drinks such as cocktails are being mixed at reception so getting wine from the restaurant 20 metres away should not be a problem. Either it becomes a true bar and true bar food or reception. I know which one the hotel prefers, don’t worry about the guests.

Our room faced east and we had a lovely view of the car park and construction works along the Great Western Highway. Well, I suppose you get what you pay for. The room was a bit small. We did a tour of the premises and Ryan explained that the original rooms did not have bathrooms. The size of the rooms was reduced to accommodate ensuites.
There was a very good selection of teas, 2 small cartons of milk and 2 bottles of San Pellegrino. The hot shower worked well and the towels were thick and cosy. Nice toiletries.
The buffet breakfast had scrambled eggs, back, chicken sausages, mushrooms, broccoli, and grilled tomatoes. Surprisingly no baked beans. There was a small selection of breads, fruits, cereals, cold meats and pastries. It was the same for the 2 days we were there. You helped yourself to machine coffee but could order, at a price, a barista coffee. I asked for poached eggs which was delivered with no trouble.
It may be worth getting a room of the Megalong Valley.

The pool has been filled in. There are plenty of walks but not necessarily starting directly from the hotel you really need to know these. I have bush walked up there for years. There is one tennis court. It's best to have a car to travel from there. But if you spend all that money as I mentioned just staying in the hotel and relaxing is lovely.
There are more places to choose from in the Medlow Bath area.
