We booked for a two night stay in a Jepur suite with a fantastic pool, very large 10+ metres.
On arrival it was immediately noticable how attentive the team working there are, taking time to explain the hotel and the facilities. We were shown to the room, which to access was through two wooden outer doors, a walkway over a water feature to the room door. This again was from wood and is pictured below. There are no traditional locks on either set of doors but padlocks which adds to the mystique and charm of the hotel.
The room in essence had a four poster bed as there were mosquito nets on the frame, although we never used them and didn't suffer any bites. The bathroom was accessed via an internal door and this had a large sunken bath, separate shower, double sink and toilet. It has an open air side to it but so private again this adds to the quaint feel you experience.
We ate at the Standing Stones restaurant which was outstanding. There are theme nights on to tempt your taste buds these range from local cuisine to western offerings. The Royal Banquet on the Thursday was very special with a taste of Balinese fare, this is highly recommended.
The choice and range at breakfast was again outstanding in both quality and taste served from an a la carte menu which felt a very personal service.
We enjoyed a spa treatment which was relaxing and this lived up to the standard set by the whole resort.
I used the gym each day and it has free weights a cross trainer, treadmill, exercise bike, cable machine and floor space so you can make your own routine. It is ample for a holiday workout.
We took part in yoga on a morning and a local custom of making an offering for the gods.
It may sound like we were quite busy, but The Royal Purnama is what you want to make of it, and it is such a relaxing destination.
The General Manager was very personable and spoke to all guests seeking feedback and catering for their needs. The Head Chef did exactly the same and I would think that this demonstrates that customer focus and experience is at the heart of what The Royal Purnama values. It is set in and ran by the local community which again seems to be valued by the hotel.
A definite place for us to visit again, thank you for your hospitality and kindness.

Dear G_D_Milne,  Thank you so much for making the effort to write this wonderful review for us, we really appreciate it! Your kind words about the attentive service right from the moment of your arrival, and about the very tasty food in our Standing Stones restaurant are encouraging for all our team members to every day keep giving our best to each guest! Very nice to hear that you liked our complimentary activities like free morning yoga and Balinese offer making, and that you found our onsite gym to be ideal to keep up with your daily routine even on vacation. Regarding the concept itself, it also pleases us to know that you love some specifically unique design details within the villa, like the colorful wooden doors with padlocks that add to the charm and mystique of the resort, and the open air bathroom. We definitely hope to welcome you again in our little piece of paradise on your next trip to Bali! With our best regards, Barry and the entire TRP Team

This is a lovely little resort. We stayed in an ocean view room and it was beautiful. Very spacious with a kitchenette and huge bathroom, plus jacuzzi on the balcony. Breakfast was delicious (photo of menu included) and service from all staff was exceptional. The staff all remembered your room number and any special requests. Being newly pregnant at the time all staff in restaurant made an effort to inform me that there was no raw food served to me, etc. Putu in particular was very good at her service. We stayed on a Luxury Escapes package which had some great inclusions like daily afternoon tea, a free massage and a free dinner. Massages were fantastic (thanks to Sri and Dwi) and quite reasonable in price compared to other 5 star resorts or Australian spa prices. The complimentary daily morning yoga was a great way to start each day.
The only negative was the design of the bathroom. We loved the open air shower and didn’t mind the heat in the bathroom or having a shower if it was raining - however we had a really heavy down pour which lasted all night and day. This made the floor in the bathroom quite slippery when walking to the toilet. But also the toilet itself was soaking wet due to the rain.
That being said, I’d highly recommend this resort. Just keep in mind that it is very isolated so everything you eat and do is at the resort.

Dear Sin712,  Thank you for recommending our resort with such kind words and for your compliments about our staff. It gives me great pleasure to read that our team did a wonderful job taking care of your needs and took special precautions regarding food as you are expecting a little one! What a precious time for you. Putu made an exemplary impression on you and yes we are lucky to have her! Also very happy that you enjoyed all the inclusions of the Luxury Escape package, like the afternoon tea and dinner and found the massages of Sri and Dwi to be fantastic and actually moderately priced compared to other luxury hotels. Your comment about heavy rainfall’s impact on the open-air bathroom is well noted and you can be assured we will look into this. In the meantime please accept our sincere apologies for the inconvenience caused. We are delighted that you still highly recommend our resort and we cannot wait to welcome you back soon!  Warmest regards, Barry and the entire TRP Team

Beautiful relaxing resort . I stayed with my partner for 7 nights and we loved the experience . The resort itself is in a quiet part of Bali 20 mins drive from Sanur and 40 minute drive from Ubud. We loved the quiet and went for a relaxing holiday so suited us perfectly .

The black sand spa is wonderful and the staff very attentive . The Indian head massage was great as was the Balinese massage. They have a pool that you can use and the whole experience was very relaxing.

Standing stones restaurant is beach facing and has a selection of western ,Balinese and vegetarian food . The vegan chocolate desert is amazing . Friendly and attentive staff. The breakfasts were delicious .

We had a ocean view room which was up on the top floor we so had a nice breeze and could hear the ocean . There are also rooms with their own pool but the resort itself has a nice pool as does the spa which you can use after treatments. The outside shower was a treat we loved it ! As was the large spa bath on the balcony .

The staff are all very friendly and accommodating. The whole place is very clean and welcoming with stunning gardens .

The beach at the front of the resort is a black sand beach (great for making your own body scrub as many locals do). It’s not for swimming though as it’s too rough and unfortunately some plastic rubbish washes up on the beach . We did however enjoy walking along the water and splashing near the shore. Although you couldn’t swim it was still appreciated having the beach so close as you could hear the waves and the see the amazing views from the restaurant and pool. We also enjoyed sitting watching the waves at night from the many chairs around the restaurant and resort. Overall a peaceful relaxing stay and I recommend it .

It’s going to be difficult to put our stay into words. The Royal Purnama was like a slice of heaven. From the moment you step into the reception and every second after is pure paradise. We travel A LOT and I have never been so impressed then with our stay in Bali. Barry, the manager would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. He literally went to the pharmacy for my husband. Dika, one of the hosts, was so amazing and attentive. What a pleasure to meet him. And our villa?? WHOA! Like a fairytale. I’m still missing waking up and jumping into my own private pool. I had the best massage of my life! (And you guys it was like $40) The included breakfast is beyond something you would get at a 5 star hotel. There was the most unique and fun events available everyday (we got to release sea turtles!!) It was like a dream. If you want to see what heaven on earth looks like you should probably check The Royal Purnama out.

Recently returned from a 10 day trip to Royal Purnama. Having booked this back in Feb 2020 it was a long time coming but we got there in the end!

The hotel allowed us to change the dates multiple times in response to the global pandemic which was really helpful.

The hotel room (Cempaka) was absolutely stunning! The entrance way is really cool and leads to a wow factor first view of the accommodation and it’s pool. The room itself was really in keeping with the region, and incredibly spacious and comfortable. Bathroom equally fantastic.

The facilities at the hotel were brilliant. We used the main pool area a number of times and always enjoyed the tranquility. There are numerous places to sit and enjoy a drink whilst watching the ocean crash onto the black sand beach. The restaurant serves great food both as part of daily set menus or A La Carte, and was reasonably priced in my opinion. The drinks selection is extensive, particularly the cocktails. The grounds are well kept and you can tell a lot of effort goes into maintaining this quality

By far and away the best part of our experience though was the staff. They are all incredibly polite and attentive. We want to specifically call out Mega, Putu and Puspa who all offered a really personable approach too.

So, the view and facilities for this hotel is very nice, nothing to say about that. However they offered a 100 k voucher for the spa for each of us, and thought we would use these. However on the voucher it said: can’t be combined, only for 1 person and only for treatments. We then booked 1 massage and got the bill afterwards and the message was amazing, but to our surprise they charged taxes for the voucher, they gave us for free, meaning that the voucher was only about 80k irp worth? - first time ever that I have seen a voucher being taxed .. I know the amount is only 20k in difference, however I still feel that they “tricked” me with this voucher. See the picture for the bill, second line is the voucher which was original on 100k but then reduced to 80k. Disappointed for a 5 star hotel and all the time we felt like they tried to force us to but more massage by asking “So you really only want 45 min massage or..?”
We only saw four other couples at the whole complex and instead of making us feel special, we felt like we were forced to spend extra money, they always wanted to sell us more and more, where they could have focused on making our experience memorable.
Due to this, my rating of the hotel will only be on 2,5!
The facilities are nice, but the overall impression was that they wanted to sell more, which was a huge disappointment!

Dear Niklas S,  It makes me happy that you found our resort facilities and views to be very nice, but you’ve also brought to my attention some valuable feedback for improvement regarding your recent stay with us, and then in particular about your visit to our Spa! I am really sorry to read that we failed to make your spa experience a relaxing one, especially the ending. I understand your frustration regarding the discount voucher, even as you say it is only about a small amount difference, you felt tricked and that upsets you in a big way. Please be assured there is no intention to trick you or any of our guests into anything. I have immediately asked my accounting team to look into this and it has already been adjusted. Thank you for helping us correct this glitch in operational procedures. You also mention that the massage itself was amazing, that’s wonderful, but you felt uncomfortable about the staff asking you if you would like to have more massage time. I have taken this up with the Spa Team to make sure that all are aware to not be too overly enthusiastic in suggesting additional spa treatments. So sorry about this. On behalf of the whole team I would like to apologize and we hope in the future you will give us another chance to show you that we are capable of 5-star service.   Warmest regards from the island of the Gods, Barry and the entire TRP Team

My wife and I celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary in part by spending six nights at Royal Purnama. The villa we stayed in was unmatched by any room, villa, or cabin we have ever stayed in with its beautiful and spacious interior, private pool, and gardens. The public areas and pathways between the villas, the restaurant, pool area, and beach are equally magnificent. I counted 19 different choices jon the breakfast menu and 49 choices on the lunch and evening menu. The food was fantastic and the problem was deciding if we wanted to try something new or repeat something that we had already enjoyed. The physical setup and special touches in the food and design would be enough to win awards, but that alone was not what set Royal Purnama totally apart from any place we have stayed anywhere. My basis of comparison is that I have visited about 70 different countries on five different continents and stayed everywhere from very low end locations in developing countries to Ritz Carltons and favorite hotels like the Fairview in Nairobi, Kenya. Many have had great service.
Our reservation was made when Bali was completely shut down during the Covid Pandemic. A special offer for Royal Purnama showed up on Travelzoo. I showed it to my wife and immediately made the payment for an unconfirmed future date when the island and resort opened up to tourists. Finally, a few months ago, I contacted the reservation office of Royal Purnama and reserved the villa for the desired dates. Then, a personal emergency changed all our plans. I wrote to the hotel and not only made the necessary changes, but the reservation department inquired in each communication about my recovery.
Upon arrival and in conversation with different team members, they explained how Royal Purnama had maintained part time work in maintenance (the gardens and plants alone are spectacular but do not take care of themselves) and cleaning, even when the resort had zero income. This was confirmed by multiple employees and the General Manager. That commitment from the owners and management was not universal in Bali or any part of the travel industry. We were thrilled to see how our prepayment was used to take care of an incredible staff.
From the detailed, helpful, and warm welcome we received upon arrival with the driver from the airport to each meal service, cleaning crew, spa therapists, gardeners, etc., we realized while at Royal Purnama and after leaving that we were with a very special group of people. They were always happy, attentive without being obtrusive, professional, friendly, and clearly worked as a team. We have never seen anything like it to the degree we saw it at Royal Purnama. It made the 28 hours in the air from where we live in Ecuador totally worth it. The head chef came to our table the night before we left and asked if he could send a lunch with us since we were travelling the next day.
My only regret in writing this review is that I am limited to five stars since I would love to give six!

This was an unforgettable week. This resort in Bali consists of only 39 appartments with individual entries which are commonly called villas in Indonesia, the rooms are spacious and beautifully appointed. A small kitchenette with fridge and well stocked mini bar is tucked out of the way. The bathroom was huge with extra deep marble bathtub. Our villa had a extra large jacuzzi for up to six people which the staff filled up for us with fresh water every day. Since the tap water in Bali is generally non potable there was ample free supply of drinking bottled water to use for everything from making coffee and tea to brushing teeth. The restaurant on premises was fantastic, deserving Michelin star. The variety of food choices and the quality of preparation were wonderful. But the most impressive was the service. I have travelled extensively around the world but I did not encounter such an impeccable service. The staff treated us like family, going out of the way to fulfill and anticipate our wishes. The reception established a Whatsup connection with us and was available for anything 24/7, usually responding within a minute or two. One employee named Agus found out that we left a mask in the dive shop and arranged it to be returned to us. We did not even think it would be possible because the dive shop was located two hours away from the hotel! Overall we had a wonderful week and will definitely consider returning back to the resort even though Bali has a lot to offer.

We had some wonderful days at this place. The staff treated us as royals from the pick up at the airport to the final goodbyes. They solved everything we asked for, they recommended places to go/eat, booked what we needed and went the extra mile to make us content and happy. We had our own little garden and pool but there were always nice and clean daybeds available also at the main pool whenever we wanted to spend some time there. The food was excellent and I have to mention the fact that one of us needed gluten-free food. We mentioned it once and it was always taken care of after that. I don't know how they did that. They even had home made gluten free bread! The spa was professional and well run. The beach had rough sea so we could not swim there but it was nice to go for a walk or take a run there. Also, we found it interesting to observe all the local people coming to the beach for offerings, fun and just family time. Everyone was so kind. We hope to come back and find more strength some other time!

Due to covid we never got our initial book honeymoon in Thailand. Instead we found The Royal Purnama on luxury escapes and booked it to align with our 4th wedding anniversary.
The staff went above and beyond with making our stay and day special with bedroom and bathroom setup of flowers and petals, a cake and free photography session.
The grounds are lovely and quiet, the spa is amazing and food didn't disappoint.
Be prepared that you are not near a store so it is a place where you can truly relax, enjoy your own or partners company and unwind.
Our driver from the airport stopped enroute to get supplies/deinks from a minimart which was appreciated.
Our honeymoon didn't disappoint.

Hi, you do have vegetarian food but choice may be limited. As for spa, there are many spa options in Ubud town about 20-30 minutes drive from the Royal Purnama.
