Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Needed an overnighter and this place was cheap, nice staff (only met one person) rooms were refurbished and nice, the cleaning of the lovely new bathrooms let them down though. Soulless bar area but the happy hour was okay with reasonable beers available.

Checkers calls itself a country resort, but in fact it is nothing more than a motel, tugged away in the bush, in the quiet Sydney suburb of Terry Hills. Yes, it has quite a large pool & spa and a couple of tennis courts, but the grounds could definitely do with a bit of a makeover. You get the feeling the gardener only comes once in a blue moon, the tables & chairs around the pool are old and tired, and most of the umbrellas broken. We have stayed there two times now, as we have relatives to visit nearby, both times the restaurant was closed for dinner and only served breakfast. To call the breakfast "the best breakfast in the whole of Sydney" may be a slight overstatement, but it is very reasonably priced at $15 and offers a choice of cooked dishes, coffee from a proper coffee machine, cereals, fruit & toast. It does finish at 9;30 though, which for a family with teenagers on holidays is a tad early... We stayed in a family room with a queen and two single beds, which was spacious and clean. The room was serviced efficiently every day, there were always lot's of clean towels. All in all Checkers isn't a bad option to stay, if you don't mind being a bit out of the way. With the restaurant closed for dinner, we found eating out at night a bit of a challenge, as there aren't many eateries in the area. Also it is not cheap at $195.00 a night for a family room, but then again, where in Sydney & surrounds is?

This one was a bit mixed - ckeck-in was a delight with friendly staff and they understood my situation and that was great. But no bar and no restaurant was a really big surprise on a rainy night - the Terry Hills Tavern is fantastic for food and drinks. Being woken at eight fifteen in the morning by some clod with a leaf blower ended it for me.

Social group of 15 went for a ‘Christmas in July lunch’ with fees at full commercial rate and very expensive but limited wine list.
As there was a convention there our group was relegated to an in air conditioned basement room with no decoration other than jars of faded plastic flowers. Wine was provided at own expense but the wines available were from BWS cheap list but charged at $27 per bottle. Food which seemed to have been cooked by granny served on cold plates. 1.5 hours after arrival some food was delivered in cold plates brought down a roadway quite a way from the kitchen and was barely warm when it arrived. There was however quantity. Staff as is often the case at the moment we’re poorly trained and service very slow. All of this. Am be understood if the charges were a little less than 5 star level. Being dumped in an under level storage room took it too far. We were older people but that is no reason to be treated so poorly. Very bad value. Poor service. Home cooking level as opposed to a professional venue. I know covid causes peoples but no excuse for such poor quality. N would not recommend this venue for any purpose

We had booked the house at Checkers. On opening the front door it catches on the floor and only partly opens. Walls were dirty as were the furnishings. Kitchen drainer hadn’t been unpacked from previous guests. Rooms smelt musty, aircon vents were rusted and dirty, mould on ceiling in one of the bedrooms. Not somewhere we felt comfortable or safe to stay.

I enjoy staying in venues where the owner, and family members all chip~in' with the chores. This place felt very much like I was lodging in a family lodge. The hallways have nice little oddities~ old books, little figurines, old suitcases and it has that ond~of~a`kind feel which I enjoy... The site with tennis courts, and swimming pool/sauna was only an added attraction. Next door was my meeting~place with Pal ~KAMAHL on one site at "The Palms' &while on the other side was the nursery where we'd be hunting for new planting for his garden. Nice spot~ Fine people.

The place is simple, but incredibly comfortable with everything you need for a good nights sleep whilst in transit. It has great facilities (pool, spa, sauna, playground, tennis courts etc and restaurant / room service with a large menu). The staff are the biggest highlight, and we’d like to give a big shout out to Sam who was an absolute delight from the moment we checked in. Warm, competent, natural and knows how to go the extra mile without it seeming contrived. She was particularly brilliant with our children, and nothing was ever too much trouble. Very grateful to have inadvertently found this place for our overnight! Would happily come back again.

The outside doesn't look modern but the rooms was great. The room was huge, with 2 queen beds. Great bathroom with high pressure hot water. Very clean. New mattresses. The restaurant was the best we've been to in years.
The tennis court needs a little reno. The new table soccer and table tennis tables need to be put up with the pool table.
Very quiet.
Great staff.
We stayed at the 4.2 star Fairmont a few weeks ago. This was half the price and twice the quality.
Do NOT book with Agoda ... they were very over priced.

The stay started badly before I even arrived. Even though the booking was entirely prepaid I got a phone call from a blocked number asking me to give my credit card details over the phone otherwise I could not be offered a after hours check in (which I had requested with the online booking). I was told if I didn’t give my credit card details over the phone and I arrived late then my booking would be canceled, even though it was prepaid! What made it worse was the tone that I was spoken to in.

Then during my stay when I asked for a tax invoice, as the stay was for business travel, I was told they could not provide one and I had to contact the online booking agent. But before I had even asked the question clearly the receptionist was having a bad day, and his tone and attitude was atrocious! I have never been spoken so rudely to in my life. It was disgusting! I requests that he claimed down multiple times and not speak to me the way he did. Even a fellow guest in reception made comment on his attitude.

As the rooms are extremely ordinary and the place looks like no one has stayed there since the 1980s I would advise against booking this place!

I recently stayed here with my elderly 86 year old mother. When we arrived we found out that there was NO food available. No room service, no restaurant, no breakfast, NOTHING! The entire complex looked very run down. When I drove around to our room (closest to the busy road), we were met by 3 tradies with their shirts off, swigging from bottles and sitting on the rocks at the edge of the garden carpark smoking. Unfortunately these guys were in the room next to us. They later smoked RIGHT outside our room with the cigarette smoke coming into our sleeping area. Our room was SO dark, mum could hardly see! I think it was dark to hide the fact that the room was so vile it would not pass the 'Gordon Ramsay' blue light test! It was obvious that nothing had really been cleaned or disinfected. The shower had mould in the grout. The facilities were SO pathetic that there wasn't even a single biscuit. I had to take the disgusting white jug to the reception as it was full of black mould. We had had no dinner and certainly wouldn't get any breakfast. I was given a black jug instead probably so I couldn't see the mould in this one. There were bugs in the bed! There was also mosquitoes in the room as there was a lot of vegetation in the untended gardens outside the room. I got NO sleep whatsoever. There was a child crying and coughing all night on the other side of us & people coming back late above us! I would NEVER stay here again.
