I think The Esplanade is the best choice of accommodation in Port Hedland and South Hedland. However be aware that it can be noisy. The helicopters taking ship’s pilots out to meet the ore carriers take off close to the hotel at all hours. Restaurant is very good. Had an excellent steak, Internet in the room is good. Clean rooms although Port Hedland itself is dusty due to iron ore stockpiles and loading.

Stopped for lunch on our way to Port Samson, staff when ordering which was porterhouse the only steak on the menu and she questioned my order with the whole fancy name on the menu,I had to say three times medium rare with pepper sauce, the other meal was the chicken parmi. Steak was good, parmi was good chips were coated with bacon seasoning and bacon chips too much and tasted artificial, salad was leaves and half a cherry tomato, no dressing so not at all appealing. Great atmosphere and great building.

While this hotel is mostly just full of workers it is still okay. Rooms are starting to look a bit tired. Linen is not white now rather an off white.
Restaurant dishing up good food with an international flavour on menu. Good food, pretty good service too which is unusual as the Pilbara heads back into full overheated economic activity.

We stopped overnight in Port Hedland on our way south. The Esplanade was recommended to us for diner, we didn't have a booking and where very lucky to get a table, which in hindsight I wish we hadn't.
The menu is glorified pub grub with a glorified price tag to suit. The dishes served where a parmi and laksa and they where very mediocre.
The service was impeccable, certainly no complaints there.
My biggest complaint is about the 10% discount offered to local residents of Port or South Hedland. Whilst the 10% of the bill was not huge it's the principle of being charged a different price, totally unfair and in my book unnecessary. I have no problem if a discount is given to the residents / guests who are staying in the hotel.
I would not eat here again on principle alone.

We planned to spend “date night” at a hotel have dinner and be kid free. $207 dollars is incredibly steep- the room could comfortably be worth $125 at a push. Our rooms stunk awfully - the drains in the bathroom were terrible. We ran taps and poured water down the drain to move the smell but it still stank. The rooms are small and there is no privacy on the balcony. The two lifts are extremely far away from the other end of the hotel with No stairs to utilise to make up for the distance. Wouldn’t stay again.

You may think there’s nothing to offer in PH, but the Esplanade has more than expected and better than any pub food in Perth.
I’ve basically been surprised by each time of me coming here for lunch on my business trip.
Each of the dish - main or entree was absolutely delightful and delicious!
The fish of the day is great, crab linguini is yummy, lamb shank is delicious, grilled prawn is perfect and list goes on.
For the price you pay you are getting top notch quality food!

One night stay on the way back from Broome in transit to Karijini. This place looks great, and could be, but it's just done on the cheap which actually made it funny so I gave it a two instead of a one. Sign in reception said call the out of hours service to check in. We were fine but I noticed a guy at 6pm on the phone trying to organise check in. Is that really after hours? We were put in an assisted room which was fine as it means a large room and bathroom. The shower was open plan with poor drainage and no shower curtain so you ran the risk of wet clothes if you used the toilet afterwards. My wife is 5 foot 4 and couldn't see the mirror in the bathroom cabinet as it was too high. The coffee machine and fridge was in an amenities room with a door that took some pulling. A visitor requiring assistance would have struggled. Had a great balcony area albeit overlooking the car park but no chairs to sit out. Furniture in the room was pretty old and shoddy. TV on the far wall away from the bed gave us and Facebook friends a good laugh. It was a small portable TV. Binoculars would be needed to watch it. Went for dinner in the restaurant. That was a disaster really. Garlic bread to start came out quick and was tasty. Waited for an hour for the main course despite a few chases. Turned out our order hadn't been made and so more waiting. Free drink which was good. Food eventually came. Wifes dish was OK but my steak sandwich was poor. Cheap chewy piece of meat. To top it our bill including the beer and food from the person who was at the table first. Our table was on the edge and although we enjoyed the outdoor setting it is just up from the smoking area and wind was blowing towards us.Breakfast was ok and included. I'd stay here again as I don't think there is anywhere else? Don't be fooled by the Trip Advisor rating though I think the score is lifted by the restaurant which I'm sure is good just not for us. One last thing, we went for dinner earlier than planned as I received an email as Tuesday's was quiz night and it's booked out months in advance. We wanted to be in and out. We left at 8pm but hadn't heard a quiz start and so not sure if this is accurate.

It's probably one of the nicer places to come and dine in Port Hedland, you can sit outside under the misters and relax. They just need a better menu. There's not really that many options. We had heard people rave about salt and pepper squid but they must have changed there menu. Only seafood you can get is battered.

Stayed 1 night. Bed was firm and comfortable. Access to the balcony from the room enabled fresh air. The room was clean but had a musty odour. By morning there was a grey water smell in the bathroom and the air conditioner leaked.
Good location close to centre of town. The room was clean but had a musty odour. By morning there was a grey water smell in the bathroom and the air conditioner leaked.
Lobby and restaurant look recently updated - really nice. Nice beer garden and restaurant was ok but we had an unlucky table right near a vent that smelled like sewerage and when we asked to move unfortunately there was no other tables. Breakfast buffet was good- included in room rate.

The best time of year in the North West is April through to September although you can travel all year round depending if you are staying on the main roads or going off road. It will depend on the areas you wish to travel.
The hotel does not have a pool although you can access the town public pool which is a short drive away for a small fee- times are available via the Town of Port Hedland website.
There are salt crocodiles that have been seen around some of the popular town beaches and area although they tend to be seasonal, again would refer to any updates on the Town of Port Hedland website.
Please contact us at if we can be of any further assistance.
