Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Welcoming and very friendly staff. We were in a Deluxe Queen room which was very spacious with a sitting area, modern shower room with plenty of towels and shower products. There was a huge built in wardrobe, additional pillows, iron and ironing board, tea and coffee making facilities and a fridge. The room was exceptionally clean and was serviced daily during our stay. Our room rate included a continental breakfast which was fine, although I could have done without the staff reminding us every morning that we were entitled to continental only. The restaurant is modern and well appointed, evening meals are also available although we didn’t dine there the menu is well above standard motel food. There is a wine bar with an excellent and extensive range of wines. The site is very well-kept but on a very steep hill. I would definitely recommend this motel and would stay again if in Albany. The only things I would like to see changed are: 1. The continental breakfast to include cheeses and meats. The fruit and pastries were fine but as my husband is celiac this left his choice reduced to cereal (no gluten free options) fruit and yoghurt. I should point out that it’s possible to purchase a cooked breakfast but again, as the choice was limited it didn’t seem worth it. 2. We were in a ground floor room, and while the first floor rooms had a balcony and furniture I feel the ground floor rooms could have at least chairs outside. I don’t know if it’s possible when booking to request a first floor room as a ground floor room can be noisy if the room above is occupied . We only had one night with the room above us in use and I don’t mean they were being noisy but just walking around, so if you’re easily disturbed you may want to check this out

Last time I stayed here it was a long time ago with a boyfriend who I ended up being in a very long term relationship. I have since moved to Albany and lived there before moving to other areas. Finding myself wanting to visit for a couple of days, thought I would see how it has changed. Because of my history with the region, Dog Rock has always been my first choice of accommodation, now that I have stayed there, that has not changed. For those not in the know, it is named for the dog head shaped rock that appears to be sniffing the air. It is located right across the road by a lane leading to one of the city's shopping centres containing a Woolworths, Red Dot and a Leonards Chicken and a cafe as well as other shops. It does wear a collar which in reality is a paint to make it more visible to traffic and it was classified by the National Trust in 1973. The Motel is centrally located with one direction going into town, the other taking you to the end of the road being Middleton Beach. You have a wide variety of attractions very close to you as well as having a marvellous restaurant (Lime 303) which I have eaten at and reviewed on this website, should you care to have a further read. I had a room which I was well pleased with, up the back with a rear view of the bush, in front of me on my balcony I could see Mt Melville sweeping up into the sky. The room was spotlessly clean, very comfortable bed and it was quiet. There was a mini fridge with an assortment of refreshments within and a selection of tea and coffee sachets on the counter. The shower was excellent and the parking was plenty at the door. I had paid a little extra for a hot breakfast the next day which was well worth the price. (See attached pictures). There were foxtel on the tv which I enjoyed catching up on the movies I had not yet seen. The staff at reception were very personable, friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend anyone who was going to Albany to stay there.

I travelled from Perth to Albany, first time visitor. I booked a room at the Dog Rock Hotel here in Albany and was very surprised at the place. They have restaurant and Bar. The meals are very generous and delicious. There is also a Woolworths and take away across the road. The rooms have fridge, jugs, very comfortable beds, television with foxtel. The bathrooms are clean and tidy. All the staff are very polite and professional. I would absolutely recommend a stay here. Also close to all tourist sites

We stayed at the Dog Rock Motel because it was close to everything. Check it was fast & friendly with the lady explaining about our room location & the restaurant on site. The room we had was spacious, bathroom as well but both a little dated. The room was clean and so was the bathroom we had service in the room daily, they even changed our towels even when we hung them up to reuse them. The bed was comfortable with a nice little balcony also to sit on & take the view. Our rate we had a continental breakfast free or we could have paid $17 for a full breakfast. In room TV has free to air channels & all the Foxtel channels would want, the Lime 303 restaurant on site is very good if ever in Albany would definitely stay again.

Staying in an Executive Family Room with King Bed and King Single and we were amazed by the cleanliness and presentation of this renovated room. Then come night time is when things went downhill. Sound Insulation is poor between rooms. We had a room next to us with guests talking and laughing that we could here loud and clear up until midnight with a few of them deciding to take midnight showers that we could hear the running shower and water pipes through our wall. Apart from these sound proofing issues we couldn’t fault the place but for the money paid we would probably have found either an AirBNB for similar money but at a private property or a better equipped hotel.

We stayed in Albany for 2 nights in October 2023. We had stayed at Dog Rock Motel before. Its a family run motel and we found all staff to be friendly and helpful. Our room was very clean and had everything we needed. The rooms are dated but could not fault the comfy bed and the room was quite spacious. Plenty of onsite parking. We had free breakfast in our rate. There was a choice of hot and cold food, the standard buffet style, but was delicious. They have a brilliant restaurant onsite called Lime 303. It has a great menu and the food was fabulous.

Our room was spacious, clean and tidy, but dated. Apparently the block is next in line for renovation. We had a view and the room was serviced after the first of two nights. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom had shelf space for stuff. The bedside light was a sort of neon strip above the bed and if one person wanted to read the other would have trouble sleeping. It is a good average.
