Jim, the host, was always keen to please. His local knowledge was very helpful and freely given. He cooked an excellent breakfast which was served in a large room looking out on to the local birdlife which Jim had attracted by an early feed. But.. Our room number 3 was very small - little room for our suitcases, TV on top of the wardrobe. The latter was rickety to say the least and stored the spare pillow, blanket, floor mounted fan, ironing board, iron and portable heater - very little room for clothes. However, the beds were very comfortable. We had booked 5 months earlier and for most of our stay, there were large and comfortable rooms available. These had lounge chairs and plenty of room. The two lounges were large and very comfortable with an abundance of things to do, read and enjoy. JIm does well to single handedly look after a large house and 7 acres but you have to wonder if it is too big a job even for someone who is so passionate.

A top class bed and breakfast is an apt description of Big Grove and its loveable owner Jim. We had only one night there as it was a short visit to the Albany area, but next time I will make it longer, to just enjoy the ambiance and tranquillity of Big Grove. An Idyllic location set in natural bushland, Big Grove is an ideal place to stop and unwind and if you're an artist or writer, a great place to park for a few days to explore your creativity. Jim, the Bed & Breakfast host is very friendly and helpful with extensive knowledge of the history of the area. The accommodation is clean and comfortable and breakfast superb - five stars. And you can enjoy observing the natural wildlife outside as you enjoy your breakfast. Highly recommended

We stayed one night on the June long weekend and Jim fitted us in at short notice. Although a little out of Albany, it was perfect for us as we were doing the Bald Head trail after a great full breakfast. Jim was a very helpful host and made sure we were comfortable. Albany is a bit cooler than Perth so the upstairs heating is needed to take that evening chill out of the air.

We had driven from Perth to find a couple of particular caches and needed somewhere to stopover for the night. Jimmy greeted us on arrival, at the end of a long, long day driving followed by walking for 4 hours. He gave us a good recommendation for dinner in Albany. We found the room to be comfortable and we slept very well. Then we were set up for the drive back to Perth by a hearty breakfast. Jimmy was very interesting and enthusiastic. If we ever went back to Albany we would book to stay here.

Thank you Jim for your wonderful service and hospitality during our visit to Albany. You came to our rescue on New Years Day and we were so thankful to have met you... and even more stoked when we saw the breakfasts!! The house is in an awesome location for hikes, the gap, the natural bridge, blow holes and whaling station, whilst only being a short 10-12min drive from town centre too. The local knowledge on reaching the nearby tip of Goode beach for our own private piece of turquoise paradise was appreciated too!! We have already recommended this B & B to friends and family and would definitely stay here again! ... next time I'll bring the black pudding :)

The house is 15 mins drive from the town of Albany hidden in the bush. Serene it is with lots of birds in the garden. Room has a heater and beds are comfy. Breakfast is a hearty loaded ones. The host is pleased to share lots of history if you are interested. The property can be nicer in all respects, but we are happy the way it is, homely. Will recommend it

A lovely house within a lovely bush garden. Jim the owner is a very friendly, knowledgeable host and keen to please his guests. There are three guest rooms, two of which are ensuite, a communal lounge, kitchen area and a big breakfast room. The house is full of antiques and memories of the good old days. Our room was a decent size with a comfy bed and thankfully a radiator/ heater; it was quite chilly in the evening. We stayed here for two nights and enjoyed Jim‘s lovingly cooked breakfasts. If you are looking for a pristine spotlessly clean accodation this not for you. If you don‘t mind a bit of dust flying about and want to experience somewhere and something special I can recommend this place.

An experience we will never forget. The host is very friendly and forthcoming with lots of personal history. The house could be wonderful. The grounds are good but could be amazing. The room was very comfortable and the linen superb. The elexctric blanket wonderful! No way is this guest house 3 Star. Cannot imagine how this is still advertised as such. Breakfast was very nice indeed with lovely garden views from the breakfast room. Its quite a way ot of Albany so its best to eat first before going there to rest for the night. It is near to the Gap and Natural Bridge.

Jim is a lovely old gentlemen, however, when we arrived he has just a nasty experience with some guests the day before who decided to flood the room we would be staying in. It was so bad that it came through the ceiling, However, he put us in another room. All the rooms are clean, there are are heaters, which was necessary during the time we were there as the temperatures dropped at night. The mattresses are not necessarily firm, so it would be worth checking out if you need a firm mattress. The showers were hot. In the lounge is tea & coffee, milk in the fridge & a microwave. Breakfast was hearty & filling The unique thing about this B&B is its location which is around 15 mins from Albany. It is near the coast, some of the natural tourist features, but it is situated in the bush. If you are a birder there are lots of birds around the grounds (Jim has 7 hec) & he has a feeder, so watching the parrots while eating breakfast was fantastic. We were a bit early for Splendid Fairy Wrens. The grounds are also home to orchids, but due to the weather this year, a lot were only just coming out, but he had over 10 species in a small square. The night star was impressive, although the Milky Way was glowing you could still see the shape. Please note: there is no lift in the B&B so if you have big heavy bags you will have to carry them up a flight of stairs.
