Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Beautiful stay! Booked via Luxury Escapes & called the hotel to upgrade to room with golf course view. Well worth it! Great facilities, large room, clean and very friendly staff. Only downfall would be the quality of food both for breakfast and lunch. Was part of our package but wouldn’t have otherwise eaten there.

Staff were incredibly friendly especially Robyn at reception. Rooms and overall hotel presentation is tasteful and comfortable. Air conditioning could have been more relaxed in common areas and water pressure in showers would have been better if stronger but this would not deter us from returning. Golf course was very pleasing and challenging in the best way. Cafe menu and ambience could be enhanced but they serve a great spicy margarita. Great location for all reasons. Breakfast from 730 and the strictness around this was disappointing and inflexible towards travellers needs but I feel this outcome was more due to the poor management decision of young staff as opposed to the superior amenability of mature staff who always went the extra mile to please.

We had a 2 night stay here Sun and Mon. We asked about Shirley’s restaurant on the Sunday night and told that it was closed for a private function, we walked past this restaurant during dinner time and it was empty no function. Monday night after having a few drinks in the cafe we went to order dinner and told it was closing at 5pm and the other restaurant was also closed . I asked the staff at desk if there were was food available she said no you might be lucky to get a cab into town . Is this a resort that doesn’t offer food . Note - photo shows restaurant times ( but apparently not) Read less

We had expected hotel service. There was no food available after 5pm. We were far out from town and had to walk 5km to get an evening meal. Breakfast service was unsupervised and below expectations. The property itself was good physically but management service and staff left a lot to be desired.

If you are travelling to Torquay 'The Sands' is the place to stay, after a mix up with our accommodation bookings we found ourselves without booked accommodation, we explained our situation to reception at The Sands and oh-boy they were just wonderful, they found us 2 rooms and I cannot speak highly enough of the staff, nothing was too much trouble for them and they turned what could have completely ruined our holiday into a most enjoyable experience, will definitely be returning

We don’t recommend the sands as we forgot a green Tommy Hilfiger shirt in the closet which we rang straight away to let the staff know and asked kindly for some assistance and was advised by the manager that nothing was left in the room & there was nothing they could do about the situation & hung-up on midway a conversation We where recommended by my sister and my brother inlaw who are members of the sands and recommended that we stay at your facility not only because of how close to my sister”s house but being a place of national destination only to be sadly disappointed !

Loved everyting! Great staff, freshly renovated rooms. Golf course in great condition. Great location. Really amazing value. Welcome cocktail was delicious. Chili eggs for breakfast was tasty and well presented. Both I and the couple we stayed will definitely be coming back. I’ve already recommended to other friends. Thanks for the great stay.
