Holiday was great, everyone enjoyed, we were a family of 12, for a special birthday.

Only down side was price of food in restaurants. Also some of us ordered a Chinese takeaway away which was awful 😖 not even edible and extortionate price.

I spent a week at the Whitesbeach Guesthouse and had a wonderful time. We stayed in the Garden Suite West, which is perfect for a couple. Do not let the shared bathroom put you off: this is not the issue you may think it could be. Everything was immaculately presented and clearly crafted to maximise peace and relaxation.

The Guesthouse itself is excellent. The bed was great, the showers perfect, the pool was amazing. There are ample tables, chairs, and lounges around. The gardens are beautifully landscaped. Numerous facilities are provided for various kinds of cooking. There is a playground and sand pit for children, as well as the 'safari' for them to explore.

It is the small details that elevate the place above very good to excellent. Music piped through the common areas, ample spare towels available by the pool. Various activities are scattered around the gardens (eg quoits, cornhole, etc). There are many small things for children to explore, such as a fairy house and 'fossils' in a footpath. An exhaustive list of these would take too long to share!

The Guesthouse is half a block from White's Beach. This is not a patrolled beach, nor is it a surf beach. This is clearly a popular dog beach, though it is excellent for walking, laying on (or playing in) the sand, or going for a paddle. It is probably not the best for swimming, though the main, patrolled beach is walkable distance (or short drive) away. The Guesthouse is also located walkable distance, or short drive, from Torquay's shops and restaurants.

My girlfriend and I stayed two nights in the Ocean View Suite over the recent New Year’s period and had the most relaxing time ever. This place literally has it all. My personal favourites are: the ridiculously comfortable King size bed and view from the ocean view room veranda , the tennis court (there is also a billiards table and a table tennis table- perfect for a restless male like myself) , the pool and spa, and the breakfast (refreshing to have fresh fruit and breads along with some delicious home cooked treats instead of the usual fry up). It’s just a short 2 minute stroll over to the beach too if you ever actually want to leave this place. Stephen and Claudia really have got the balance right with Whites Beach- they are friendly, welcoming and helpful hosts who leave you to enjoy your stay but are always there when you need them to help with some travel advice or to offer a coffee or some home cooked chocolate slice!! Anthony and Kiri.

Hi Anthony (and K), Thanks so much for your feedback. It was a pleasure hosting you both. We're glad you were able to relax and recharge the batteries. Hopefully the ferry ride, drive through Mornington and stop in Melbourne met expectations. Looking forward to seeing you again soon. Cheers!

My partners mother very thoughtfully arranged a two night break at this Beach haven and gave it to us for Christmas.

The price is on par with Crown Metropol (where we have stayed on many occasions) and never had a breath of complaint.

Despite paying full price again for the second night the rooms here don't get restocked so don't expect to be able to wake up the next morning to make a coffee in your room. We even ran out of loo paper. If the rooms aren't restocked, price for second night should not be the same price as the first night.

The walls were paper thin and the bed head between us and the next room were head to head. We could hear their conversations (amongst other things) and when they finally retired the sound of snoring was unbearable. My partner and I then relocated to the second bed which we discovered was unmade, despite the price incorporating two beds. After travelling a lot and staying in many motels I have never had sound proofing issues.

The breakfast is cold eggs just left in a stand. The second day we went out for breakfast.

Upon giving the staff an opportunity to respond to the many complaints we had (not all listed here) a week passed and no reply so my partner put a bad review on this website and suddenly the complaints were responded to (not attended to) with a request to take down bad feedback and we are left wondering how many others have given bad feedback and had the same treatment.

I've had much better (and much cheaper) experiences in 3 star motels which have been about a fifth of the price. Next time it will be RACV Resort for us.

As a long time user of TripAdvisor for our personal travel planning, I've always been curious by the bad reviews so far out of whack with all the others. So when we opened Whitesbeach 2 years ago I wondered how long it would be before we received “one of those reviews”, and what kind of guest would leave it. After 751 guests my question has been answered. This review and our only Poor review written by Callum B are from exactly the same guests. At the time of stay we were alerted to none of the issues now reported. It was only after the stay we received feedback from Callum’s Mum which we attempted to address. Eventually Callum contacted me directly and suggested their second night should be refunded in full and that a second review could include further negative feedback. Needless to say there are a lot of things in both reviews that are simply not true. And while there are many things I’d like to say in response, after a few days of reflection I’ve decided to laugh it off and let our many other wonderful guests respond for us. I will, however, take the opportunity to have some fun and let other potential guests know a little more about how we do things at Whitesbeach Guesthouse. Whenever we refresh a suite, we remove all rubbish. Unrefrigerated, half empty bottles of flat, warm champagne are considered rubbish. If, after a long day enjoying our many local wineries, you find yourself looking forward to polishing off the aforementioned bottle, all you have to do is let us know, and we’ll gladly find a replacement. Prior to a new arrival, each suite is equipped with 3 extra-large rolls of toilet paper. Historically, this has been sufficient. However, if your stay with us includes a higher than average intake of spicy cuisine, rather than emptying out the facial tissue boxes, please let us know and we’ll be happy to promptly deliver additional rolls. Breakfast is served from 8am – 10am and, to reduce waste, a finite amount is prepared based on past experience. If you arrive at 9:45am, there’s a good chance the variety of breakfast options may have reduced. However, we are always around and more than happy to make more if alerted. Whitesbeach Guesthouse is a unique accommodation experience and family operated business. We don’t pretend to be perfect and know we won’t appeal to absolutely everyone. If the above seems reasonable and the experiences shared by our many happy guests appeal, then we’d love to have you stay with us and get to know you. If, on the other hand, you’re looking for a “5-star big hotel” experience, then we recommend joining Callum and his shoeless partner at the RACV Club, which, we agree, is a very nice hotel.

I have just returned from an amazing stay at Whitesbeach Guesthouse and words can not explain how overwhelming enjoyable my stay was! We arrived late and was personally welcome by Steve the owner of this beautiful home, he help us with our bags and even welcomed us with a very tasty glass of shiraz. after a tour of the Guesthouse we where able to take a private dip in the picturesque in-door pool and was given the opportunity to choose an unforgettable bottle of red wine from their personal cellar. And I can forget to mention the free upgrade of our room! The rest of our stay just kept on getting better with tasty spreads for breakfast, a proper sized snooker table from jolly old England and I have to stay I haven't played on a table that smooth in a long time. So if you're ever in Torquay there is no better place to stay than Whitesbeach Guesthouse.

I stayed one night only February 12 2015. Stephen and Claudia looked after me impeccably. Everything explained. No evening meal but several local restaurant recommendations with full menus to choose from which one could order in. I liked that idea very much. The food I ordered arrived ready to eat. The one I chose charged only $5 delivery.Good choice of books in Library
and dvds too. Nice Breakfast included.
the ocean was close by and couldbe seen from my suite. Local bus almost outside the gate. This guesthouse has it all including pool tennis court table tennis bbq and magnificent gardens. Thank you Stephen and Claudia and hope to be able to return one day for a longer stay. It was a
great break away from a very busy
schedule in Melbourne.

This is really a B&B experience, so great if you are looking for something a bit more communal. Claudia and Stephen are very friendly and have tried to be innovative. We weren't expecting that so it didn;t fully suit the experience we were looking for.
The big downside is that our room didn't have an ensuite. To get to the toilet we had to cross a corridor (which everybody else can hear), unlock a door and then use the facilties (which were very nicely done). For people that have to get up several times during the night, that is a real issue. The room usually sells for $400 (although we got it cheaper) so we felt that was poor value for money.
The outside shower was great.

Responded 5 Feb 2014
Hi M, It was nice meeting you and L. It was a shame your cold put a damper on the evening. We hope it didn't take long to get over. We agree that Whitesbeach is a unique place that guests often find difficult to categorise. While we have many of the same amenities found in larger establishments, our small size allows us to offer an intimate and personalised experience. If you visit our website, you'll see that we try our best to ensure our guests know what to expect. The use of Guesthouse in our name and listing in TripAdvisor’s B&B were also done to help give guests a good feel for the place. Thankfully, most are pleasantly surprised with what they discover upon arrival. We’re glad you liked the outdoor shower. As you'll see in the room tips, the outdoor garden decks and showers are quite popular and, for most, more than compensate for the slight inconvenience of sharing an indoor bathroom with one other suite. For guests who prefer the extra privacy of their own indoor bathroom, there are 6 other accommodation options. 4 of our suites have ocean views, 3 with private balconies. Other guests can often be found enjoying the ocean views, with a glass of wine or a complimentary latte, from the balcony connected to our library. For the benefit of future guests, we’d like to clarify that the room you stayed is not normally priced at $400 per night. The much lower rate you paid was our standard single night rate. During non-peak period we also offer multi-night discounts on all our suites. Cheers Stephen and Claudia

Beautifully presented in every way.
We spent 4 very relaxing nights at Whitesbeach Guesthouse.
The rooms are very spacious & the bed so comfy!! Everything is immaculate - from the ensuite right through to the dining room.
Stephen & Claudia are the perfect hosts - very welcoming & accommodating - the little extras like booking restaurant's in advance & recommendations on the best restaurants & takeaway certainly did not go unnoticed.
Would definitely stay here again

Hi C and A, You’re trip probably feels like ages ago now, but we wanted to make sure we took the time to thank you for your review. It’s great to hear you enjoyed yourselves for the Melbourne Cup weekend. We were more than happy to set up a booking for you at Scorched. It’s one of our favourite restaurants in town, so we like sending guests there knowing the quality meal they will receive. Come stay with us again soon. Cheers, Stephen and Claudia

Yes that's good that you enjoyed your stay. I'm annoyed as the issues we had have not been address but personal remarks and assumptions have been made on the type of people we are for leaving negative feed back, not good business really. He's made assumptions in my character when I'm more than likely higher educated then him. Looks desperate, like when he emailed asking me to remove negative feedback and this is where I'm now at! Glad you had a great experience Indy

Hi Dianne. Thanks for the inquiry. Depending upon the numbers we have a couple of spots where yoga is a possibility. We've had yoga instructors look at hosting retreats here and they felt they could fit 8 - 12 in the games room by the pool. Unfortunately, though, we are closing down for some major property upgrades from May - July and so won't be able to accommodate you in June. Please don't hesitate to contact us if you're planning any future trips to Torquay. Regards Stephen
