We loved this place which we booked for a work client function, we also had at the time interstate staff stay for three nights. Check in was great loved the vibe and the art. We didn’t stay overnight as we live in Melbourne but our staff loved the rooms. We used the penthouse for our conference and it was excellent, a massive balcony with stunning city views, the penthouse was very clean modern with great art, and we were attended by very professional staff. The food was terrific, for our morning and afternoon breaks and came at the designated times and our lunch was first class. In part this helped make our conference a success.

We highly recommend the Cullen great location, our business conference went really well. Thank you to all the staff, reception, housekeeping and the chef.

Thanks for taking the time to write such an awesome review valeriemD6484ND. It's awesome to read that you had such an enjoyable work client function at [The Cullen]. Our penthouse is the perfect spot to admire the Melbourne City Skyline... hopefully, it didn't cause too many distractions for work. You know what they say, good food, good mood and it sounds like the team at Gramercy Social hit the nail on the head. We can't wait to welcome you again. Maybe a Stay-cation is in order? Regards, Matt

I was in Melbourne doing long days of work for my family and The Cullen was a great place to come 'home' to each night. All the staff were friendly, helpful and professional who always made me feel welcome. The bed was very comfortable which is important to me! And the room was cleverly designed to make it feel spacious although it was a very long, narrow shape. Using mirrors in strategic places helped create the spacious illusion. Everything was very clean and it was fab having a mini kitchenette, a coffee pod machine, a good size fridge, lots of cupboard space and a room safe. I am not a person who likes sleeping with air-conditioning so I really liked the option to open the little side window. The mechanism may need a bit of an oil though. The art work was vibrant although not my usual taste but matched the simple furniture and décor making it a very funky space. Additionally the location was great near the Prahran Markets, rail and tram stops and lots of restaurants. Also, its a short walk to nearby Chapple street. Lastly, there was parking for my hire car but the carpark is a bit tight. However, the staff help with getting you in and out if necessary so not a big issue.

We really enjoyed our stay here. Staff were very friendly and helpful, bed was comfortable, room was very clean and the art was fantastic. Great touches like the iced tea in reception and Byredo toiletries have made us want to stay here and at Art Series hotels again. Lots of great restaurants nearby and Prahran is handy for the city on the tram, but we walked it to get our steps up (ie it’s doable)

We loved the location of this hotel, the size of the rooms and staff were great. We realise that staffing is an issue at the moment however our room was not cleaned to a satisfactory level. it hadn't been vacuumed prior to us taking the room. Once we noticed this I guess that prompted us to look ore closely at the cleaning and realised that the cleaning was substandard all through the room. The edges of the carpet against the wall were dusty and messy, behind the entry hadn't been cleaned in some time, the lounge was covered in spills and generally soiled and had actually been moved to cover mess on the carpet. This led us to wonder how clean the bathroom and toilet were?
Whilst we understand that staffing is tight at the moment we don't think it is reasonable to charge guests a full room rate and then deliver substandard conditions. I would suggest closing off a portion of rooms until you have the staff to service them.
This was a pity because we mostly enjoyed our stay. The room size is really good, the linen and bed was good and the location superb.

We stayed here for the 2022 Grand Prix. The location is great if you have GA Park Passes as it's about a 15 minute walk to the eastern side of the track (Gate 8) or you can get the 72 tram. It's also close to restaurants and cafes around the Commercial Road/Grattan Street area and shops on Chapel Street. Bed was nice and comfy and the Byredo toiletries were a nice touch.

I do feel like the rooms are probably due for a remodel, a few things were starting to look a bit worn or damaged (cupboard doors, freezer door in fridge, slow draining bathroom sink) - nothing disastrous but something to consider. One thing that does drive me crazy about this hotel is that the bathroom walls are just frosted glass, which don't afford a lot of privacy especially with the light on. It's probably supposed to be edgy/subversive and allows the art on the glass to be showcased, but it's really just inconvenient and awkward. We got into the habit of looking away or going onto the balcony when the other person was in the bathroom.

I also feel like the rooms could do with a good deep clean. We found some items left over from previous guests under/beside the bed and the carpet and sofa were a bit allergy-inducing. Room services were by request only due to COVID issues/staffing which is totally understandable, but perhaps a regular contactless delivery of extra supplies could still be done every couple of days (e.g. toiletries, tea, coffee, toilet paper). This way guests wouldn't have to bother the front desk every time something is needed.

Also wondering about the restaurant downstairs, Golda (used to be Gramercy) - it seemed to be closed for our whole stay so not sure if this is permanent or temporary? It would have been nice to have a second option for dinner directly downstairs in addition to HuTong.

Overall though, a convenient stay and good location for the Grand Prix weekend.

A fantastic location, close to many great places to eat and shop. The noise from the pub across the road on a Saturday night /Sunday morning woke 4/5 of us up. The opaque windows in the bathroom are horrible, particularly when you are sharing with family members. Standing in hallways to allow privacy for showers and toilet use is not what I expect from a hotel with this rating. The bedside tables are impractical and appear to have been designed for aesthetic purposes rather than practical use. When we asked for our room to be cleaned ( a 4 night stay) it was lovely to come back to a clean and tidy room, however the bathroom design does not allow for towels to dry properly. I would not stay here again unless I was by myself

The rooms are with windows that can open and some with balconies, bright, clean with meal making facilities, fridge plus freezer, microwave and dishwasher. Personal laundry facilities on all floors. Prahran food market across road, 24 hour Woolies down lane. Easy access to City and NGV/Botanic gardens via regular 72 tram. Loads of cafe in mornings and bistros at night.

Fantastic stay. From the moment we walked through the door we were greeted cheerfully and with a friendly smile from Caitlin. The lifts were so quiet we didn’t realise we’d moved until the doors opened on our floor. The room was extremely clean and well set out. The mirrored walls made it feel so much bigger than it was. The bed was the most amazing thing I’ve ever slept in. The shower was also great. The block out blinds were so good I had no idea it was light outside. The coffee pod machine was a nice bonus. Sound proofing was outstanding. There was a nightclub across the road but it couldn’t be heard in our room at all. It was unfortunate there was no restaurant on site for breakfast but covid has taken its toll on many businesses in Melbourne. Would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone.

Sadly, what could have been a good experience staying at the Cullen turned out to not be! My fiancé and and I were bought a night there by my parents to celebrate our engagement.
The package included 2 x breakfasts and a late check out. Upon check in they asked me to pay for a breakfast as there was only one name on the booking... the voucher clearly states for 2 people. Confused I paid.. but also checked the voucher twice and told a member of staff. Upon leaving they charged me for the breakfast onto my credit card.. I then had to email twice and call in regards to the fact we had 2 x breakfasts on our voucher. After follow up, they apologised and said they would refund the money, it’s been almost two weeks and I have still not been refunded.
It’s a shame that what should have been a celebration was then followed up by having to chase the hotel for money they owed me, I have still not reviewed a refund and will probably have to follow up for the 4th time!!
Disappointing for myself and my parents.

I was opposite, checked in very early. They were very understanding, kept my luggage stored and gave me drink voucher to use while I waited for my room to be ready. It is a 24 hour desk so I would be surprised if you couldn't do late checkin.
