Stayed here in February and was really looking forward to our 4th visit to Port Fairy. We have had various types of accommodation in town and just out of town centre. We do try and vary it up. Well…….this was by far the most disappointing. And not cheap! We were in what they call the Penthouse although it’s just top floor of two. Advertised as a B and B (? ), all it provided was tea bags, coffee sticks and sugar and salt. Not even a small container of long life milk as every other accommodation place provides. It was tired and unclean, with layers of dust under the TV that was months old. Furniture was chipped and scratched and so mismatched. All the timber venetians need a good clean too! It needs to be painted inside and out, in fact just needs a complete overhaul It is in a good position but would I go back……..NO. Drop your price or renovate.

We have stayed at this property perhaps six times. It was tired the first time, and with nothing done in a decade or so, it is now so shabby as to be an insult to renters, who pay a high price. The property has great bones, but the complete lack of maintenance over many years means it is now a very tarnished jewel. It needs a re-paint inside and out, and oh the carpet - slum standard. Reviews by others dating back years complain about the carpet - it is the same carpet in 2023! With a repaint and new carpet it can be restored to the status of a premium property.

Stayed with friends for three days in January. Had the top level. Each room has its own en-suite. Fully stocked with towels, all kitchen requirements. Nice balcony and lovely big windows with views over the river. Spotlessly clean. Would definitely stay here again.

My partner and I stayed at Shearwater house in the riverview apartment for 4 nights for a weekday, off season, beach get away. I find the beach so peaceful during winter, and Shearwater House in Port Fairy is the perfect place to relax. The view over the docks is breath-taking, and it was lovely sitting and watching the local fisherman throw lines and un-hook their catch. The bedroom is spacious and comfortable, and had all the necessary facilities including a neat ensuite and tv with dvd. The full kitchen was very handy, as we preferred to cook and stay in rather than venture out in the cold. I was thankful for the few pantry staples provided, including salt/pepper, oil and tea/coffee, for our convenience. Above all, the location was perfect. Heading out the back gate, it was an easy 5 minute stroll across the river to East beach, or to the right, down the dock and past the Wharf, is Griffith Island and the Southern ocean.

We had 2 nights at Shearwater House - really lovely (the website does not lie). Wonderful views of the river and the garden from the guest lounge and sun deck, a quick stroll over the foot bridge and past some houses and you're on the beach - bliss. The hosts and their helpers are so welcoming and helpful and cook a great breakfast. Our ground floor room was exactly like OUR guest room at home, very nice but no hanging space, only some hooks. The shower room also very nice but nowhere to put your toiletries. Just little niggles to travellers who are on a long trip with lots of stuff (it wouldn't bother anyone if you were on a weekend visit). Would recommend Shearwater House to everyone, and would stay again in a flash. Port Fairy is a wonderful, quaint little town - the spa mut be tried, as must the muffins from Rosie's!!

This beautiful little B & B overlooks the Moyne River in pretty Port Fairy. The hosts are very hospitable and went out of their way to accommodate my daughters and me. I thought the price was very reasonable considering it was the same cost as the dodgy motel round the corner. The rooms are light and tastefully decorated, with crisp cotton linen, and scrupulously clean en suite bathrooms. The lounge and breakfast room has huge windows which face the river where there is a boardwalk which takes you along a lovely walk to the beach or to the fascinating mutton bird rookery. The main street is only five minutes walk out the back. My only slight complaint would be that the bed was really hard...but that's a personal preference thing. I note that the property is on the market so I hope the new owners can maintain the standard John and Joy have set.
