Each year in February we go away with a group of friends, this year it coincided with my birthday and we all decided to go out for dinner. We chose the Victoria Hotel and so pleased we did. It didn't start off too well as neither of the wines I ordered were available. I got a little testy but to my surprise and delight "the boss" arrived and supplied a superb chardonnay for the same price as the one I had chosen .It had been awarded 97 points.Fabulous! The food was excellent, far far better than normal pub fair, the service friendly and attentive. All told a great evening in a hotel that deserves to succeed.

We decided to go at the last minute so weren’t able to get a table in the main dining section. That was our fault for leaving it too late to book given it was holiday time during COVID restrictions. Meals are quite big and nice. It is pricey but it is probably better than the other pub options in the town.

I've goin to the Vic many times over the last 4 years, it has a special draw as our girls love the play room. However, the prices just keep going up, compared to similar venues it just seems very expensive for reasonable, but not brilliant food. They're now charging $8 for a bottle of water and I think that maybe the last time we eat there.

We had a great dining experience at Victoria hotel. It has completely gluten free kitchen and it felt great and really liberating to be able to order anything I liked off the menu. The food and service the was great and I can't recommend the desserts highly enough

We booked for dinner for 4 adults and 2 children. After waiting over an hour after ordering our meals we had to chase up the waitress to let her know we had not been served. Many other diners in after us were being served before us. She told us there had been a 'stuff up' in the kitchen and we would have our meals 'shortly'! Well, we did, but they were less than acceptable. The 2 chicken parmas had quite obviously been sitting around for a while and then re-heated - awful - could not eat them. The Lamb Shank meal was less than perfect. Most of us could not finish our dinners.
When we complained about the service and asked to see the Manager, they were very experienced with 'avoidance' approach - pretend it is not happening. No, we had to chase up the Manager again - she didn't want to know about the problem at all!!!
We are new locals to the area and will be operating a tourist venture so this place will definitely NOT be recommended as somewhere for a meal. There are many good eating places in Port Fairy so steer clear of this one!!!

Easter Saturday and a group of us (mix of Port Fairy residents and frequent visitors to the town) went here for dinner. Unfortunately we never actually ate dinner. After a wait of over 2+ hours for our main courses, we gave up, cancelled the order and went home for toasted sandwiches!
The majority of the other customers seemed to be in a similar situation, which is disappointing as with efficient management and organisation, the restaurant could be a lovey place to visit.
For a town that is reliant on tourism, the Vic really needs to raise its game and look after its customers.

We stayed in the Victoria hotel for one night when exploring the wonderful Great Ocean Road. The rooms are so lovely and newly done in beautiful old buildings with a lot of charm. Staff is extremely friendly. The restaurant is great as well and serving delicious food and wine. Port Fairy is a cute little town and a good place to stay for one or more nights. We regretted not being able to stay longer in this town and hotel but we were heading up to the Grampians afterwards. Finally a tip: have breakfast at Rebecca`s - it`s great!

I visit port fairy often as we have a holiday house and have eaten often at the three other hotels often. I don't go to the victoria often as it is expensive . The food is good but the atmosphere is not fine dinning, but the prices would lead to expect that. Last night i took 5 friends to dinner there at 7 pm.
The service was good, the food ok..i asked for some rolls to start with and was told the meal wasn't far away and NO rolls appeared. The noise from the front public bar was full of loud drunken men yelling ,talking at the top of their voices. All this filled the FINE dining part of the hotel which is some 100 feet away.
Then one drunken patron started kari oki and had turned the machine to full blast. It was as loud as a disco dance hall.
When i complained the waitress was embarrassed . The bedlam continued I asked for the owner and she went over to a lady with a white cooks hat on who was talking to other patrons. But i waited and waited ..hoping that we would go without having to see me... It worked after about 5 minutes we left never to go again. Its the worst pub experience ive had in 15 year of staying in port fairy. So much for the RESPONSIBLE SERVING OF ALCOHOL guide lines. The whole number of patrons in the front bar were drunk and out of control. Visit the other pubs for a good night out .

Wow. What an experience. I've lived in Port Fairy for 31 years and yesterday, 7 friends and I went to the Victoria Hotel for dinner. We ordered - not a particularly difficult order, made up of 2 entrees, 7 chicken parmas and some lamb. We were given ONE menu between 8 of us, and had to walk in to a different section of the hotel to even get that! We waited 1 hour before some GARLIC BREAD came out, and then after 2 hours, decided enough was enough. The waitress told us we would have to wait at least another half hour before our food would be ready. That would have made it 2.5 hours. Not only did we buy and pay for a lot of drinks in the mean time, we weren't offered any real apology, except a justification for the wait (by the manager no less), that they were one chef down and were really busy. Sorry, but that's not my problem, and not my fault.
We cancelled the order in the end and walked out, and so did a lot of other families, many with young children, so there night was probably worse than ours!
It is NOT difficult to provide good service. You need to be take responsibility for the stuff-ups, you need to communicate with your diners, and you need to keep an eye on how things are going on the floor. Give us water. Let us know how long things are going to be. Don't make US chase you up. Sure, food was going to take a little longer, but at the end of the day, I don't want to have to ask you.
Don't bother going to the Vic, this place has been given far too many chances, management are unattentive and this is reinforced by so many different people around town who say the same thing. Bella Claire, Rocksalt, The Stag... go somewhere else, don't ruin your night.

Nine of us arrived, including six friends touring from Europe, at 7.30 pm. Some asked for the prawn main dish. No prawns available. Four of our European visitors asked for fillet steak mains. No fillet steak available.
All water on the table was warm. We managed to get ice in a glass from the bar.
We asked for bread and butter but this is not available. We were told we could order garlic bread as that is all they supply. Very disappointing for all of us and an embarrassment for we Australians. We had booked this venue at least two weeks beforehand.Nowhere near up to the standard of this otherwise beautiful town. Fortunately we were staying over the road at a Motel which was excellent.
