Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What a nice little hotel! The small reception area doesn’t give a clue of how nice the room we had was. The place looks like a small house in the back of a garage (the reception). In its back is the common room, which includes six tables for two a smallish sunken living room with a fireplace and, somewhere, the kitchen. This area overlooks a small garden with a pool and some sitting area. We were then taken to our room. A marvellous modernist bedroom (king size), a sitting area, a cupboard that hides a small fridge, espresso machine, a kettle, mugs and small plates, a bookshelf that hides a tv and the most humungous bathroom I have ever seen in a hotel room completes this amazing room. We are told there are six of them, hence the six tables… We had a nice dinner of tapas, a fantastic breakfast and we were gone. I can’t recommend this hotel enough. The gentleness of the owner and her staff, the serene atmosphere and beautiful food makes us regret that we did not spend at least another night there.

Room Tip: This is a very modern architecture and design. Don’t go if you like big American chain hotel.

The reviews already posted will have done a better job than I could do of describing the quality and uniqueness of Drift House. We stayed in apartment 1 (the ground floor of the old house) for only one night which frankly wasn't long enough to truly enjoy the experience. Port Fairy is a great place to visit - combine it with Drift House and your holiday will be made even more special.

My family and I stayed at Drift House and like so many reviews before us, we wish we had stayed longer! We spent 2 days driving the Great Ocean Road from Melbourne to Adelaide and if we could do it again we would have enjoyed at least two nights at this amazing spot! Colleen was lovely and warmly welcomed four weary travelers and had us tucked into our rooms and off to dinner before we knew it. The Rooms: The room designs are just so fabulous and unique. We LOVED the doors and how grand they were. The beds were very comfortable and the entire room catered to comfort and relaxation. My one bit of feedback is that I tried to enjoy a bath and the water pressure or maybe the faucet was terrible for the tub. I couldn’t have gotten it half filled in 15min and gave up. The rain shower more than made up for it though. The Food: Wow. Just wow. John is an amazing cook and the dining area is like the rest of the facility, beautiful attention to detail. We shared pretty much everything on the menu for dinner (mostly tapas like food) because it was all so good. Fantastic drink and wine selection. Breakfast was equally delicious with perfectly poached eggs. Yum! Other: The entire facility was just lovely. It was too cold for the pool but there are beautiful gardens and sitting areas and bikes to ride into town if you like. My sister and I did an early morning trip to walk the lighthouse loop which was beautiful. Overall: You simply can’t miss staying at this amazing gem in Port Fairy. I recommend at least two nights to fully enjoy the experience. Thank you Colleen and John and the rest of the staff for making our stay amazing and your commitment to sustainability!

Drift House is honestly one of the best hotels I have every stayed in. The attention to detail in the design and furnishing of the suite we stayed in and the communal salon area is phenomenal. From the welcome at check in to the check out process our stay has been just perfect. The only negative thing is that the hotel is so good I wish we were staying for longer. The breakfast was excellent and the early evening local wine choice was great, if you wanted anything after the owner had gone there was an honesty system in place, which clearly worked really well. We stayed in Suite 5. If you need a couple of nights stay in Port Fairy and you enjoy some exclusive luxury then this is the place for you. We would most definitely stay here when we visit again. A perfect 5* hotel.

Great place in a great location. Old world style tastefully modernised. Spotlessly clean and beautiful gardens. Food is excellent and the staff are super friendly and very helpful. Walk to town , the river and the beach. One of Port Fairy’s finest. Highly recommended.

The design of our room was amazing and everything was so well thought out and very comfortable. We had an incredible tapas-style dinner in the beautifully cosy dining area, and can't wait to return to try more on the superb breakfast menu! Definitely a beautiful place to stay in Port Fairy, within easy walking distance of everything in town.

Thanks so much Helen. I am so pleased everything was enjoyable for you, especially our dinner. I have a feeling you stayed with us just one night and it is more expensive to stay this way. We always recommend staying at least 2 nights with us. You get a better nightly room rate and there is more time to relax. We hope to see you again.

What a delight to experience all that the Drift House has to offer…from the moment you receive your keys and enter the suite. It’s an eclectic modern offering…worthy of the drive from Melbourne or Adelaide, or even Sydney. Crewed by a group of young professionals the Drift House makes for a tranquil spot surrounded by a vibrant community by the sea…which is positively refreshing even invigorating after what has been nearly 3 years of harsh COVID restrictions in Victoria. The Suites are a mix of old and new populated by the latest ideas in home and holiday. All the modern conveniences are at your fingertips..and the in-house restaurant is stocked with local produce and fine wines. Looking for a Seachange retreat - put the Drift House at the top of the list.

There is a choice of suites. We chose No 4. It is beautifully decked out, minimalist, one-of-a-kind. A very good breakfast and excellent dinner. Small dishes, all prepared with much care. This is indeed a place to pamper oneself. Unfortunately, I had a fall on a half-step just inside the front door to our suite. Be careful if you book Suite 4.

I am so pleased you enjoyed your stay in suite 4, you are right it is 'one of a kind' and that you enjoyed our breakfast and experienced our wonderful dinner. I am so sorry you fell on the step in your room. We always ensure we mention the step as we show guests to their room and we have a big contrast in carpet colours so that it is obvious. We hope the pain your experienced subsided without it effecting the remainder of your holiday.

Longing to return after a two year Covid break, we jumped at the chance to return. It exceeded our expectations, and more! Such a beautiful place to stay, very calm peaceful and quiet. This time we stayed in Suite five, and absolutely loved it. Full of space, light, modernism and privacy. Just beautiful. We loved the day seats for reading, and the beautiful large freestanding bath (… with a lemon tree outside the window, bursting with lemons). A huge fabulous rain shower under a skylight. We also loved the mattress, and had an excellent sleep every night of our four night stay. The suite felt brand-new, and was exceptionally clean. The room was beautifully designed for comfort, privacy, and relaxation. We think it is our new favourite, and can’t wait to stay in it again. The breakfast is worth coming back to, time and time again. (I think I might have an addiction to John‘s spiced porridge with apple! ) A wonderful selection of locally produced goodies on offer — made with love. The toasties were a real hit with my partner. And freshly squeezed orange juice every morning, was a real treat. You definitely need to stay for 4 nights, to try all the different options! Drift house really is a place that you will want to keep coming back to. We are already dreaming about our next stay. It’s definitely lifting the bar in luxurious and beautiful accomodation… Exceptional! Thank you Colleen and girls for another outstanding, and wonderful stay. We will be back again soon. S & P from Adelaide xx
