Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Had a truly wonderful stay here in Dunes. Everything you could possibly require for a fabulous family holiday is provided. Immaculately clean, spacious, thoughtfully appointed, wonderfully cozy with the gas log fireplace. Honestly could not have wished for more. Private swim spa warm and inviting after a day exploring the Otways, Great Ocean Road, horse riding on the beach, thermal springs, Port Fairy and Warnambool. Perfectly located for all of these locations. Highly recommended for couples, families or small groups. You won’t regret booking here and we can’t wait to return. Thank you Theodora & Michael. The perfect holiday house in the perfect location.

Likes: location, quiet, laundry facilities included, excellent kitchen, free wifi, plenty of parking, comfortable bed, play equipment for the kids

Dislikes: nothing - might not suit those we want to be close to the docks and restaurants

Very impressed with Belfast Cottages, we had the 2 bedroom cottage, very clean and spacious and the owners had thought of everything we could possibly need in their beautiful accommodation, including complimentary wifi. It was a shame we only stayed for one night. Didn't really know what to expect of Port Fairy, but it was a cracking little town, with many places to eat and very friendly people. Would highly recommend.

Its in a nice quiet location and it's a decent sized room.
Check in was easy, fuss free and cottage is well equipped with games and DVDs for kids.( not overly generous with tea, coffee, etc but adequate)
A fresh chux and sponge to wash dishes and hot shower at night would have been nice.
But overall ok..

We had a lovely winter weekend stay here with our toddler son. The cottage was immaculate, close to town, and very, very warm. We particularly appreciated the toddler friendly aspects - booster seat, stair gate, on-site playground and big DVD collection (since we had to be home early for bedtime!). If you're looking for family friendly, comfy, convenient and affordable, these cottages are for you.

We stayed in a 3 bedroom cottage but only used the downstairs which lowered the price. Owners made us aware of this option. We like to spread out and this was perfect for us. Property is just outside the town of Port Fairy overlooking the coast. Well equipped cottage which had everything we needed in it. We were able to cook for ourselves which was great. Free laundry on site for our use. Greatly enjoyed our stay here.

We only had a brief stay but found the studio cottage very comfortable for the 4 of us. The owners, Andi and Paul, are so thoughtful. We called ahead, and they turned on the heating so that the cottage was at a comfortable temperature when we arrived!

Just like one of the other travellers had mentioned, we found a handwritten note with some flowers on the door handle of our car on the morning we left. That is the friendly touch that made our stay special.

Definitely worth staying with Andi and Paul if you are planning a trip to Port Fairy.

Lovely clean, and picturesque. We had the most beatufiul sunsets ever. Highly recommended, quiet, and extremely heartwarming. We never met the owners, as we just spent the night. When we left in the morning, the owners left us flowers and a lovely note thanking us and hoping to see us at a later date. This was unexpected, yet explains how charming and genuin the people of this town are. It's a really beautiful area, a place to seek out and stay forever if possible.

A bit out of town by about 1 kilometer, but great nonetheless. Once you get to know the area, you realize you are so close to the lighthouse, one of the main attractions of this area. From where we were, joggers, walkers, and bikers like us took secondary roads by the sea and before you know it, you can see the lighthouse. It is much closer than it appears by car.

We have beautiful photos of the sunset from our balcony. I tried to post them, but cannot figure out how to do it. I will post this review first. Once I figure out how to post photos, hopefully I will be able to later. I am new at TripAdvisor, and not the greatest at computers in general. Sorry about that.

We booked one of the lovely 3 bedroom cottages and stayed for 2 nights. We had a beautifully appointed cottage with everything you would need to make you stay a pleasant one, very inviting and we had a lovely stay. A great place to stay when exploring the Great Ocean Road and surrounds.

Primitive accommodation with cesspit and drinking water from rain butt n garden. Don't expect mod cons as not conducive to comfort. We had 4 elderly adults and found ourselves in a cottage with 1 double bed and 2 bunks sharing a bathroom with little privacy. Situated in spacious well tended grounds and ideal for family with young children looking for something different.

Response from Belfast C, Owner at Belfast Cottages
Responded 4 Mar 2017
“primitive with cesspit”? An interesting choice of descriptive words for a property with one of the highest rankings and reviews on all platforms across the board. We welcome all reviews and opinions, and rectify whatever and whenever we can to make sure our guests have the most comfortable stay on their holidays. Unfortunately, on this occasion we cannot rectify anything as the whole basis of your review is that you were unaware of what you booked. The only thing we can rectify to stop this happening to you in the future is by encouraging you to fully be informed about what you are purchasing before you make the purchase. We provide a property and cottages with full description with photos and floor plans for our guests so they know exactly what they have booked. You had booked a studio cottage with a queen bed and 2 bunk beds and one bathroom as exactly explained in the description and also accompanied with photos showing such things as the bunk beds. We cannot be responsible for our consumer purchasing a product without reviewing the description and then being disappointed with us when it is clearly what you booked. Its like someone going out to buy a 30inch tv and bringing it home and being disappointed it is not a 42inch tv. We agree the studio cottage is not ideal for 2 elderly couples travelling together which is why we offer alternatives such as 2-3 bedrooms cottages with independent spacious living areas and 2 x private bathrooms.
