This was our second visit to Port Fairy and Douglas Riverside as we found both to be an absolute delight. The accommodation is light, spacious, comfortable and well equipped and sits in its own gardens right on the river-bank with beautiful views of the river and wharf.
Although it is possible to walk to P Fairy main street with its colourful shops and restaurants within minutes it is in a very quiet location. A short walk in the other direction goes along the pretty wharf and boat moorings to the sea and Mutton Bird Island. Jane is the most welcoming host and has thought of everything required for a peaceful and relaxing holiday.

My husband and I stayed at Douglas Riverside for two nights in February 2022.

It is ideally located along the river and close to all the shops, cafes and restaurants.

We stayed in the garden house and this was absolutely wonderful. The large lounge, living and dining area is bathed in glorious light and has the most spectacular views out over lush gardens and the river. The only problem is: you won’t want to leave the house!

Jane was an excellent hostess and left a well-stocked fridge and even a loaf of her delicious home-made bread.

The garden house was perfect for us as one couple but, having three ensuite queen size rooms, it would be great for small groups or families as well.

The bedroom was a great size and the bed linens and towels were a luxury quality, as were the appointment in the bathroom.

I would highly recommend you choose Douglas Riverside as your base if ever visiting Port Fairy.

We spent seven nights at Douglas Riverside with family (4 adults, 2 teenagers) and had a magnificent time. On arrival we found the property impeccably clean, tidy and fitted with all the necessities for a very comfortable, self catering holiday. Proprietor Jane clearly goes to considerable effort to add a range of thoughtful and caring welcome touches such as fresh flowers, a loaf of home baked bread, bowl of fresh fruit, milk and chocolates in the fridge and mini Tim Tams in each room. We were able to change linen and towels as often as needed during our stay. The lounge area has delightful, soothing views up and down the Moyne River which is literally just outside the windows. The surrounding gardens and lawn are maintained to a very high standard. This is an ideal property to rent with family or a group of friends. Bedroom 3 has a separate room with single bed and shared en-suite which is ideal for adults with a child or teenagers of different gender. An easy walk along the waterfront and into town for shopping, cafes and restaurants. A thoroughly enjoyable week with special thanks to Jane and Rod.

This lovely house on the river has wonderful views and plenty of serenity. We stayed during COVID-19 late September and were very fortunate to have the kitchen lounge area to ourselves. The ammenities were spot on and the extra home made bread and biscuits by Jane were very much enjoyed! Not to mention the local port wine!
Would recommend this 3 bedroom house for a family or group of friends. Close to town and East beach. We walked everywhere! And the area outside the house has rambling lawn and lovely well kept gardens. Just lovely!

Fabulous 2 night stay.
The hosts were so welcoming we felt instantly comfortable. Our room was lovely, facing the river and the bed very comfortable, lovely fresh fruit too. There was a beautiful communal sitting area overlooking the river. Really relaxing and calm watching the bird life and water go by.
The property is in a terrific location. A short stroll to the restaurants, shops and the wharf area.
Highly recommend. Thank you Jane and Rod.

We spent two nights in Room 1 with great views of the river. The room was not large but had all the amenities you require and was very clean. A separate breakfast/sitting room connected to the bedrooms and had great views of the river and provided a tranquil place to sit and relax with a cup of tea or something stronger. A breakfast basket was left in the fridge for each room and was excellent. A good place to stay and close to the centre.

A lovely welcome, and a room (number2) right on the river. Not a large room, as someone else mentioned, but perfectly fine. The breakfast was superb. It was available for us in the breakfast room, warm croissants and plenty of healthy options if you wanted it. Tea and coffee available all day, along with cookies. Even a glass of Port if you wanted.

We only stayed one night, but you could stay here a few nights and not get fed up!

This beautiful property is right on the river with a sloping lawn down to the river edge and a view to the port. Highly recommend rooms 1, 2 & 3 which overlook the river with a glassed in walkway to a communal kitchen sitting room. A very healthy continental breakfast of fresh fruit, fruit juice, cereal and toast is provided in a basket left in the fridge for us to enjoy at our leisure in the morning. Tea, coffee and biscuits are available all day in the sitting room. The rooms are comfortable, clean with everything you could possibly need. Douglas Riverside is a short stroll into town to the many cafes and restaurants. Our hosts Jane and Rob were so friendly and helpful and provided lots of information regarding what to see and where to eat. Can highly recommend staying at this amazing property and hope to return for another stay soon.

The location of this inn is amazing, overlooking the river with beautifully maintained lawns. Our room (no 3) was one of 3 in a block right at the river front and was immaculate. The 3 rooms share a open plan kitchen/diner/sitting room. I believe there are other rooms further away from the river.

The bedroom was very comfortable and the facilities were great. The welcome we had from Jane was really friendly and she gave us some very helpful restaurant advice.
The breakfast included was brilliant - loads of it and Jane had even made croissants that were warming in the communal oven. A real treat.

Great stay, and I would come again
