Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Spent a few nights in Lorne, and had dinner at the Lorne Hotel. Arrived on time and were promptly seated. Ordering for meals and drinks was though a QR code and the menu appeared on the phone. Ordered duck spring rolls $14; Indonesian seafood curry $48; and battered local whiting $38. The curry was served with a coconut rice, the whiting meal had 3 pieces of fish, along with plenty of chips and a small side salad. The pricing was certainly at the high end for bistro meals, but the meals were tasty and the servings were a reasonable size.
The bistro looks directly towards the ocean and it would be a busy place in summer.

We booked this hotel days before staying and the only room available on the booking site was a king deluxe aka bridal suite. The room was extremely large, with a separate sitting area - well couch and coffee table, a very comfortable bed and a view of the beach and main street from the large picture window. The bathroom was very well renovated and all was very clean. We would have expected, when paying $319.00 a night, to have more than shampoo, conditioner and shower gel provided. Both tissues and toilet paper were very poor quality and a shower cap and body lotion would have been appreciated. The staff were very courteous and helpful. Probably wouldn't choose to stay there again although as the hotel has just been sold, this review is probably irrelevant.

We stayed, drank & ate here

Our unit was perfectly as described, immaculately located & styled, bonus of housekeeping every day. Great facilities, comfortable & exactly enough.
On site parking was easy & convenient.

We also ate/drank here. The spaces were fantastic, so many flexible areas so hang out in & some live music as well. The view was great.

Unfortunately, the biggest let down for Lorne Hotel was the customer service. I was expecting big crowds at the beer garden ect... & was surprised when we walked in & it was noticeably quiet & empty. Out of the 5 staff we interacted with, 1 may have seemed slightly happy to be there. They all did their job but were borderline rude, unenthusiastic & clearly not committed to the customer experience.

I hope this isn’t a common vibe around this place because it has so much potential to be a massive hotspot for patrons & business.

After eating/drinking here, we decided that the prices were not cheap enough to deal with the lack of vibe in the beer garden & did not return for our entire trip. However, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the unit.

After we got home, I got a charge to my CC for a $60 bottle of wine !!! I DO NOT drink $60 bottles of wine in hotels. I questioned the charge and received no response from the hotel , The accomodation in this hotel is just a side hustle for the bars of the hotel. There is no checkin or checkout management - just go to the very busy public bar to find out what room you have been allocated. We stayed in the most expensive room at the hotel ( Executive Suite) for 3 days - it was terrible

Visited on Easter Monday with additional 15% service charge so no excuses because they were busy.
I ordered a Chicken Parmigiana with chip & salad, normally a safe option, my wife ordered the gluten free Fried Gummy Shark chips and salad option as listed on the menu. We were then advised the gummy shark would be grilled, not fried, and served with mashed potato and broccolini as the gluten free option. Not happy as this completely changed the meal but accepted as only 2 other gluten free options. My Parma came first and I was immediately suspicious as it came in a perfect heart shape, just like the prepared fare you purchase from Wishbone Chicken and like shops. My fears were confirmed when I took the first mouthful to find the breadcrumbs were all soggy, the parma having obviously been oven or induction warmed and not cooked correctly. My wife's gummy shark then came served with chips and salad, when we asked the server if the chips were gluten free she immediately replied no and took the plate away. When she eventually returned the chips had been replaced with suspiciously stodgy mashed potato but still with salad and not the advised broccolini. I have seen some strange combinations but never mashed potato and salad.
However as we were hungry we battled through eating what we could, but both left significant amounts of food. When asked how was the meal I spoke truthfully and expressed my dissatisfaction, so I was advised to speak to the manager to 'see what we could do'.
I was then approached by a woman who did not introduce herself until I advised I was waiting for the manager to be told that is me.
When I explained my concerns I was asked 'Did you eat it?' I was then told I shouldn't have eaten it and I couldn't have my money back. When I said I was not asking for that the manager advised she would not charge for our drinks.

I could not in all honesty recommend anything about this reataurant.

The Lorne Pier to Pub swim takes in the Lorne Pier and the Lorne Hotel, which is metres from the ocean. It's one of the world's most popular open water races, over 1.2 km and 5 km courses. The swim is organised by the Lorne Surf Life Saving Clubs. It was originally intended to be a fun swim, but now the winner achieves great honour.

Worst experience in my life. I had a booking for a family gathering for 18 months but had to keep changing due to Covid. I ensiked and phoned each time and got email replies that it was all possible to keep the booking. I then checked three weeks before and spoke to the most arrogant staff member I have ever encountered telling me I didn’t have a booking. I sent all emails to prove the booking. Then I get miss arrogant ringing back with all these restrictions as they didn’t have the booking. Not my fault as I gad email proof. Was told my gathering would have to spread over the whole restaurant snd I wasn’t to upset other patrons.
Seriously.
They lost my booking and I have to suffer.
Was told by miss attitude that it was the managers decision.
Manager then phoned three days before to tell me he wasn’t honouring my booking.
Really. 40 people were meant to be there 3 days later.
Worst run organisation I have ever encountered.
Thank god for their competition who did everything to have my business and make everyone happy.

This was an expensive hotel providing budget hotel reality. On the positive side the room and bathroom were clean. Fantastic location but it doesn’t make up for the other defects. Stained carpet, marked duvet cover, unwiped side table with tea stains and in a drawer another guests 7 day tablet box with tablets, rotten window frame, rings missing off of curtain track and no cups to make a cup of tea/coffee. However the worst fault is the lack of soundproofing from other residents rooms. A rude 630 am wake up call from the neighbours TV and the movement in their wardrobe was unbelievable.

This is a review for two venues in one! Great idea Lorne Hotel to have a pop-up restaurant of high esteem during peak summer season in Lorne. Lorne Hotel is in a beautiful location on the Great Ocean Road and well worth a visit in its own right. Add Coda for a limited time for a special summer dining experience and you are left with the desire to rush back to both - the Lorne Hotel and into Melbourne to the home base of Coda. Great location; great food and great service.
