I would not describe this a a resort but a motel with additional services. On the plus side, they operate an efficient remote check in/ out system - we didn’t meet any staff for the two nights we were there. The room was clean and the beds comfortable. The location is great being within 5 minutes of the esplanade at Cowes. The property aside from the motel rooms is rather basic. It was ok for our purposes ie a bed for the night.

Booked through Expedia and it was cheaper rather than direct website. We stayed on a Family room - a queen and 2 single bed during the July school holidays. Just needed an overnight stay as watched the Penguin Parade. It’s only 15 minutes drive from the resort to the penguin parade. Check in and check out was through a link sent via SMS on your phone. The code to the digital door was Sms this way. So no interaction required with reception which I didn’t mind. The room is outdated but partially renovated such as freshly painted and new shower screen. Beds are soft (too soft and needs updating). Good spacious room - 4 seating dining table, lounge, microwave, cutleries & plates. Good split heating system that warmed the room very quickly which is a must in winter. But Hot water for shower took 5 mins to heat up - so don’t worry if you think there’s no hot water, it just takes a long long time to warm up. The room is clean and comfortable stay. Our room is on the ground floor - so the kids stumping their feet for upper room was so annoying as it felt like an earthquake! But since we were only staying for the night we just dealt with it. My sister stayed at North Pier Hotel for the same price and this looked more modern and it was next to the club which was convenient - so next time I would probably stay there instead of Kaloha. While in Philip Island, we took the teenagers to SkyRail at Amaze N Things and had dinner at North Pier Hotel (new modern club). Overall it was a comfortable

We stayed for 3 nights in July to visit the penguin parade. Overall it was fairly good value, but it really is a motel. On check in I was advised the restaurant and bar isn’t open at all today….on a Sunday, in school holidays! This was very disappointing. The location is great - the beach is just down the end of the road, and the main streets of town about 5 mins drive away. There’s a small kids playground on site - better suited for younger kids I’d say 3 and under, and another bigger one at the end of the street overlooking the beach….for all ages. Their website advertises a jumping pillow, which my kids were excited about - but it’s been dismantled - so heads up to any who also see that on the website…it’s no longer operating. We went for a walk to the beach - though never found it! We walked about 5 mins to the end of the property and came to a door that led to a promenade, that was not even beach front - but we couldn’t get back through it if we walked out (luckily I checked as would have been stranded a long walk around otherwise!!). The best part about the “resort” was the hot spa. It’s 35-38 degrees….and absolute heaven. It’s also under cover, so we had no idea it was raining when we were in there! BUT - something they didn’t tell me on check in, nor is it in the guest information folder - you have to request they turn it on so it’s hot when you want it. We were lucky in day 1 and 2, but on our last day it wasn’t hot when we went in. It took about an hour to heat up, not too bad - but very important information they do not make known. We all had a shower in the evening and our bathroom literally flooded. I had to use multiple towels to mop up the water and make it safe, so my small children didn’t slip over. I couldn’t call for more towels or assistance as reception had closed. This was a problem every day, there was clearly a drainage issue in our unit - I called the Manager in on the last day and he took videos and acknowledged there was a problem. They were great to offer plenty of towels, and brought some protein balls as treats for the kids. We had a 2 bedroom motel room, which was a good size with a kitchenette. Though another flaw is that there’s no instructions for how to use the convection cooktop. They provide a guest folder with instructions for WiFi and AC and lots of other info - but nothing on the cooktop (or the spa bookings!). I tried for 10 mins, reception was closed, but then googled it and got it working. It was a real frustration at that time of the evening after a long day.

Very dirty and dusty. Unkempt resort. Stayed here the last 5 days. My wife allergies acting up because of the dust. My son nose congestion because of it as well. Will not recommend this place to others. They do not clean the place at all. You can see the dirt everywhere

We spent two nights at this very comfortable property. It is located close to the business district in Cowes with plenty of nice restaurants and shops nearby. In addition, the property has a short walking path that takes you down to the waterfront, a mere 5 minute stroll away. The room was comfortable and clean. I will gladly stay here again!

This is not a luxury resort. Honestly the cabin we had by the sea is simply a static caravan with an apex roof There are tiny little huts around in dis repair and it felt quite uncomfortable. This is a 2 star resort. Access to the beach is good but you cannot see the beach from the accommodation. I don’t believe this is any longer a luxury resort. It needs serious tidying up as it looks very untidy with the huts around. The accommodation was very clean. However only 2 bowls and a few cups in the kitchen for accommodation that sleeps 6!! The staff very friendly and very welcoming though and extremely accommodating so i fir that I give 3 stars

We went with another family and combined we had three 6 year old girls. We loved the ability to simply walk a few metres to the beach and also walk a few metres to the pool and outside spa. The pool/spa is setup prefect for adults and children to enjoy together. I have stayed there over nearly twenty years and some years back I did stay on a soft mattress but I am pleased to say that this time everything was perfect. The rooms are bog enough, clean and have all we need. The best part I enjoy about about staying at Kaloha is cooking breakfast on the bbqs in the late morning while the kids can run around and enjoy the playground or jumping castle.

Nobody there when we were checking in, waited 1 hour before we could get into our room, received no message to what room we were in, very confusing and disappointing service. Wasn’t allowed to use hot tub and when we were it was cold it was very disappointing. Disappointed in our stay.

Response from Wendy Yu, Owner at Kaloha Holiday Resort
Responded 1 Mar 2023
Good afternoon Megan, can you kindly email us at admin@kaloha.com.au to discuss this review. Did you check in during business hours? Our Reception desk is manned until 8pm every evening. The Spa and Pool are available nightly until 9:30pm so we are unsure why you are stating you "were not allowed" to use it. Guest feedback is very important to us so if you can reach out via email that'd be greatly appreciated, thank you Kaloha

Kaloha was perfect for our weekend getaway, close to Cowes city centre and the beach. We loved the spa bath in our room and overall was good value for money. The walls are a little thin but otherwise the place is well maintained and would stay again.

I am extremely disappointed with the management of Kaloha Holiday Resort after our recent trip to Phillip Island. Initially, Wendy & Kim (Owners) were willing & more than happy to accommodate the parking of our race car on trailer for two nights which we appreciated immensely. However, when we advised Wendy we needed to leave by 6am to travel back 14hrs home she initially was happy to help. However, one of her female staff members (a cleaner I suspect) sitting in reception chimed in mid discussion while we were talking saying that it wasn’t “her problem” to look after us acting if she was the Owner/Manager of the motel. Strangely & without reason, Wendy changed her position from initially being very helpful to saying she had “no duty” to get up early and open their garage to let us get the race car out. In future Wendy, I suggest you as the Owner/Manager show more professionalism & courtesy to your customers in helping them, particularly when you initially agreed to but to change your decision because of something your cleaner staff member said whom has no authority over management decisions, is unprofessional & diminishes your position as Owner/Manager. Aside from the lack of professionalism of the Owners, I would also like to express my complaint about the bathroom. Upon showering the floor does not have enough fall in it for the water to escape down the drain and as a result pools all over the floor making the floor extremely slippery & dangerous. There was also no soap on arrival so had to walk back to reception and ask for soap. I would like to say that the room was clean and the beds were comfortable.
