The North Pier Hotel sits proudly above Western Port Bay and is ideally located in the central township of Cowes, Phillip Island. Only 1.5 hours drive from Melbourne. Just a stone's throw across from the main beach on one of Victoria's only North facing coastlines, Cowes, The North Pier Hotel is the ideal spot to base yourself for your next visit to Phillip Island. The accommodation is wrapped around the bistro and bar which has been fitted out industrial style with a massive north facing new deck and serves good pub fair. A short stroll will find you on the doorstep to the many cafes, restaurants and boutique shops to explore and indulge in. Once known as 'The Continental Hotel', the North Pier Hotel leaves nothing of its prior namesake to be remembered. With every room having recently been fitted with new furnishings to ensure your stay is comfortable, and major bar and restaurant renovations were undertaken earlier in 2017, The North Pier Hotel is ready to host your next stay.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Great food with diverse menu. Good vibe. Water views. Perfect to meet up with a mixed crowd. The atmosphere makes you feel like you are on holidays. Would make a point of going back for a second visit.

Very loud, if you want a quiet night this isn’t the place for you. Parking very poor. Advertised photos of rooms are very photoshopped compared to what you get. Very dated and misleading. Will not be returning.

We came to have lunch in bistro. Lovely atmosphere - large indoor bistro and outdoor tables. Great selection on tap. Upstairs has kids area for kids - including 2 large inflatables and a cinema. Also lovely views from the top. Beach is just across the road.

Tried to check in early, which was agreed, but still had to wait three hours to get our key. Paid a bit of money for a bay view room, instead got ground floor front car park, some stress and a tiny view of the sea. Couldn’t get up dressed as the public could see in our room. Tried to change room, but they were ‘fully booked’ staff weren’t helpful.

There should be a hygiene/noise warning. What a disappointing stay. We checked in and moved the single bed slightly and found a large amount of someone’s toenail clippings.. it was disgusting. After approaching reception was just told house keeping was gone (2:30pm) and no one would clean till evening. That was appalling, my partner had to go look for a vacuum to clean his own room. The receptionist later on suggested she could move our room to above the outdoor pub/bar. We said no due to noise. We were already around the corner from the restaurant but the noise did not stop till 1am with people shouting. The blinds were terrible too with the whole room lit up with lights and once they went off the sun lit up the room at 5:15am. Upon speaking to reception the next day no one cared about the hygiene issues. Really disappointed in the stay, if I could have left 9pm that night with anywhere else to go I would. Please don’t stay here if you have children, or don’t mind loud noise and you can sleep through anything.

Worst hotel I stayed at. There was hair on towels and and in the bath room. No heating available in the middle of winter and this was a particularly cold and windy night. I had to use jackets and towels to cover around the doorway as the gaps were quite large for wind to seep in. The bathroom was 1950s old and dirty. The carpet did not look very clean. We tried to get the room changed but there was no reception staff after 8pm (we checked in at 7:30pm and rushed to dinner). The walls were paper thin. At night, we can hear yelling and shouting on the street and this terrified my young child who was trying to go to sleep. I relayed my experience to staff at check out to which she responded that's what I get for choosing a budget room. I paid the same price for another room in the heart of Melbourne (4 star hotel) so not sure what she was insinuating. Would never stay here again.

We paid the same rate as friends staying there, their room was so much nicer than ours - request the newer rooms. Ours was old, thin walls & desperately needed up grading. We are in the bar & the food was awful with cheap processed chicken, cold fluffy rice & zero flavor.

Rooms are very old, torn carpet, very old aluminum windows which doesn’t allow any insulation for cold or noice. We could see spiderwebs behind the TV. Even the TV remote was broken. no barrier between our terrace and the next room. I wouldn’t book an accommodation there again.

Checked in late for an overnight stay, and it was brilliant. Lovely rooms, well appointed and clean, excellent location, with views of the bay. Friendly check in staff. Dinner and drinks at the hotel was great, good range, excellent venue and fantastic food. Plenty of off street parking for the Harley, but not a fan of gravel carparks. Great place to stay.

Ate dinner there before taking friends to Penguin Parade ( dissapointing). We shared burgers and steak sandwiches. all we good as were the fries that came with them. Huge big dining area so imagine loud and busy with a couple of hundred people in there in busy times.
