"Belmont"is a splendid old Victorian home (c.1900), located close to the town centre with a wide range of excellent restaurants, street-side cafes and places of interest for tourists. The house has antique furnishings and exquisite decor to match the Victorian era and offers guests' lounge and dining room areas for their rest and comfort. A vast library and music can add to ways to chill out. A generous continental breakfast is served in the guests' dining room with a wide selection of cereals, fruit, cheeses, breads, croissants, juices, yoghurts, plunger coffee and a selection of teas. The rooms have queen beds with en-suites, digital TVs, central heating, ceiling fans among other facilities. There are a range of tourism interests in the town and surrounding area, not the least of which is the Regional Art Gallery overlooking Lake Benalla within the well known Rose Gardens. This also features a memorial to home grown War hero Sir "Weary" Dunlop. The lake offers a tranquil setting for the town and locals and visitors alike take the opportunity to stroll around the lake walking track with its beautiful scenery and abundant birdlife. Winton Motor Raceway, one of the venues for Australia's V8 Supercar Race Series, attracts motor car and cycle enthusiasts while there is the Ned Kelly Precinct dedicated to the infamous bushranger and several renowned wineries in the Glenrowan and King Valley wine growing areas, including Brown Brothers at Milawa in what has become a rapidly growing gourmet food and wine region. Benalla is just 2 hours from Melbourne on the Hume Freeway connecting to Sydney and "Belmont" offers an excellent choice for a stopover for a night or a weekend of relaxation in the quiet ambiance of a bygone Victorian era in luxurious comfort.

My partner and I had a lovely weekend stay recently at the Belmont Bed & Breakfast in Benalla. Our hosts Bill and Carolyn were so friendly and accommodating, making us feel very at home and well looked after. If you're ever in this beautiful town, I would highly recommend staying here for the warm hospitality and personal touches you just don't get at a hotel or motel. The home itself is gorgeous and filled to the brim with Victorian charm. The roaring fire in the living room (and in your bedroom if you like) was also perfect for a glass of red on a cool night. We'll be back

Step back in time for a Romantic Weekend away. Comfortable beds and ensuite make this B&B a treasure. The linen is modern and the rooms are not to oldie worldly, so it's not to Dollie. The sitting room is lovely with a garden aspect and the room has a fire place. Tea and Coffee are at your fingertips and you can also indulge in a port and a chocolates. Your Hosts Bill and Carolyn are friendly and very hospitable and made us very welcome. A generous continental breakfast, cereals, toast, fruit, croissants, tea, coffee, fruit juice, yogurts and make sure you try Carolyn's prune comport.....to die for. In walking distance to the gallery, botanical gardens and some historical buildings. If your looking for a lovely place to stay please consider this lovely B&B. Thank you for making our stay enjoyable.

Our guests on this occasion were delightfully engaging and their appreciation of what our B&B offered was most gratifying. You just know when someone enjoys your hospitality and these two surely did!

We stayed at Belmont Bed and Breakfast for one night this week on our way to the Victorian snow fields. The premises were clean and tidy and the bed was comfortable. The bathroom facilities were good. Bill our host was lovely and the continental breakfast prepared for us the next morning included a wide range of choice.

We have just stayed at the Belmont for the second time and would have no hesitation staying there again in the future. The Belmont is perfectly located just a short walk from the town centre, close to the lake walking track and art gallery however the street is nice and quiet. The rooms are well appointed with everything you could need, including ensuites. Finally, Bill and Carolyn are great hosts, friendly and attentive, without being overbearing, just what you need on a weekend away.

Thank you Joanne and Alan. Running a B&B has great rewards when we get people like yourselves so appreciative of what we have to offer. It makes it worthwhile and to ensure those little things that matter and make a difference are always attended to. Glad you enjoyed the Winton Wetlands bike ride which we hope will become a popular tourist attraction near Benalla.

I have been to many b&b's and this is right up there with the best. The old style home was beautiful and equipped with everything needed to make our stay a pleasant one. Our room was spacious, beautifully furnished and everything we could have hoped for. Bill was an excellent host, nothing was to much trouble and he really went out of his way to make our stay an enjoyable one. There was one negative however..... Which was having to pack up and go home to soon. Would have loved to have stayed longer

Had a very enjoyable stay at Belmont, Bill and Carolyn were excellent hosts. Found the rooms very spacious including the bathroom, the breakfast more to my liking than bacon and eggs. Would happily stay there again

I recently stayed here for 5 nights as I was attending a local wedding. In my opinion, this is probably the nicest place to stay in Benalla, however there is room for improvement. The Good: The owners are friendly and the B&B is nice enough. I was traveling alone and was thankful to find a something other than a motel. The Bad: The bathroom was freezing. Clearly it was an addition to the house and was never insulated. It made getting up in the middle of the night to pee or taking a shower a harrowing event. The bath towels shed (like new towels that have never been washed) which I'm not a fan of. However the very worst part of my stay was the breakfast. It is described on their website as 'a generous continental breakfast'...I would have to disagree. There are a few types of cereals and jams, but not much else. Oh, unless I was expected to eat the expired mini babybel cheese. My first morning I was offered a croissant which I accepted. Day 2 I was offered a croissant again and I instead asked if there was a way to get some eggs (I had a bridesmaid dress to fit in to, after all). I would have even taken a hard boiled egg which is typically offered as part of a continental breakfast. The owner graciously made me 2 poached eggs (which were yummy). Long story short, I only ate 3 of the 5 mornings (eggs on 2 occasions) and upon checkout he charged me $12 for the cooked breakfast. Really?? Maybe I have a different idea of a Bed & Breakfast, but typically in these establishments one gets a generous hot meal...I was left feeling like I was ripped off.

Response from William P, Owner at Belmont Bed and Breakfast Benalla
Responded 5 Sept 2013
Management is grateful for the review and expresses disappointment that we did not fully meet the young lady's expectations The house is centrally heated but this is switched off during the night however a heater was available on request. On arrival and at other times during the stay when staying over multiple days, the guests are continually asked if there is anything they require. We could have offered a heater to address this problem. The towels were new and had been washed twice however it seems that more washes were required to make them more absorbent. This has been addressed We regret that the breakfast did not measure up to the American expectations of what a continental breakfast contains. With 8 cereal types, strawberries, peaches, bananas and apples, prunes in port, apricots in brandy, yoghurts, cheese platter, two bread types and orange juice along with a hot croissant and 6 spreads to go with a silver service of tea or coffee, we feel this can be described as a" generous continental breakfast. That the lady felt she was ripped off when we gave a $130 deduction below full rates for multiple days seems a little strange - particularly when we made the entire place over for the bride and bridesmaids to prepare for the wedding and have photos taken at no cost makes the review even stranger. Nonetheless we welcome the review and will address our services to ensure customers enjoy their stay at Belmont

We were very pleased to stumble across this gorgeous B &B whilst looking for somewhere to go for a few days (at the last minute) over the busy Christmas period. We found Bill to be a wonderful host. This property is very well equipped, the ensuites a very generous size with plenty of room to move and ample bench space. The bed was very comfortable with lovely linen. We did not see any cob webs in the home. The home is very clean and comfortable. The continental breakfast offers a good variety. We enjoyed drinks and nibbles out in the garden. I would prefer to stay here rather than booking into one of the local motels. The CBD is a 10 minute scenic walk away past the gardens and over the bridge past the lake.
