The hotel is 100m up a side road..and 100m from the beach...but we were given a very comfortable room with a small balcony that had a good view down the street to the water. We were very happy. The room was spacious with a small table and two chairs. The balcony also had a small table and two chairs. The room was fresh, the bathroom roomy, well looked after and clean with good towels. The bed and pillows were very comfortable. The heater kept the room warm but was noisy. We had a good fridge, plates, toaster, basic cutlery, tea towel, tea, coffee and a couple of wine glasses(very important). It is a short walk the the shops. We would stay there again......Oh, and ask for room 17 for that view.

We booked the Terrace room, which is located on the ground floor with a private patio with outdoor furniture. The room comes with an LCD TV, tea/coffee maker, air conditioning, ironing facilities, refrigerator, kitchenware, toaster, and free WIFI. The room was clean & spacious, with a very comfy bed. The bathroom has a skylight which brought in natural light throughout the day. There is free parking as well.

At the time of booking, we checked if we can get a microwave, and despite being promised that one will be arranged, we were surprised at the time of check-in that it's not an available option. However, the lady was very helpful and assisted us with heating the food that we brought with us.

The best thing about this motel is the proximity to the city, as it's only 450m from Apollo Bay town centre, where you will find shops and restaurants.

Now the only thing that caused us an inconvenience was that we booked in advance through booking.com as we wanted to avoid being overcharged closer to the race date. We were surprised later on to see that the prices dropped, but since it was done through booking.com's partner (Agoda), we ended up still being overcharged. I am including this in the review so that you are mindful of the price changes if you choose to book through booking.com. They weren't very helpful when we highlighted the issue.

Otherwise, this is an adorable property, with friendly staff.

Staff were friendly, rooms were of a good size with a small decking area and outside seating (wooden panels are strategically placed to separate you and your owners outdoor space) this leads onto some bushes and then a road (not secure for children) but a nice place to sit for a cuppa. Room included a toaster and kettle and quite a large efficient bar fridge (much better than most motels). Bathroom was lit with two beautiful skylights. Bed was a bit hard but overall a comfortable stay, short walk to the main road, on site carparking, quiet rooms.

I guess the owner has been changed or something. We made a reservation through Booking.Com and needed to change it one day forward due to wedding venue double booking. Called hotel, asked if we can move. Janet refuse as our call was 13 day before arrival, not 14 and also due to no availability on that day. Also she advised to go through booking.com. We were pleasantly surprise that there is rooms (same room, same price) on Booking.com, when we contacted Booking and called hotel after Janet said that we will have to pay for 2 nights if we want to stay as nothing can be done. Later on when Booking.com contacted her she just hang up on this call without explanation. Our card was immediately charged and hotel is not willing to move booking day forward or have a discussion about waving fee or at least part of it. They have plenty of rooms available online so it gives indication that there is no 100% occupancy and motel could allow themselves be flexible by moving reservation 1 day forward to have happy customer, get same money and pay same commission to Booking.com. All they want you to do is to write authorization and allow them to resell room again!

Dear 943lanal, We are sorry to hear that you had a negative experience and we do appreciate you taking the time to provide a feedback. Our Property takes review very seriously as it is our priority to ensure all guest receive the best services we can offer. Regarding your issue of cancellation or modification ; We have policy agreement between the website ( to where you did your bookings) and Motels. This issue was already reported and investigated right away after you and Janet spoke over the phone.Your Personal circumstances change, which is actually has nothing to do with us, We did not do wrong on your end. Our Reservation Team did actually offered you to resell the room ( which is normally we don't need to do it) but she did want to help and please all the cancellations within 14 days.. Also, it clearly states that we have the right to charge within 14 days before the arrival date, and any modification and cancellation before 14 days prior to the arrival date, will need to pay the full amount. You are the person who press the button to agree to accept the terms and conditions to process the booking. based on the policy, we can only said No, however, we are here try to help our guest who has personal circumstance changed. So we did advise you that we can help to resell the room, if the room is sold. You Only need to pay the difference to move the date you want. All the best for you and your family!

To start, I was not dissatisfied with this Motel, in fact, I quite enjoyed it. Quiet, great location, ocean view and even the sound of the waves at night. I was disappointed however with the finish of the room. There was a down light damaged on the ceiling above the bed, with gyprock exposed, some mystery stains on the walls and the bathroom was a little dated, with the shower feeling a little grubby. I understand it’s a small country town, however, a decent lock on the door would also be welcome (fortunately there was a wooden wedge available). I’d happily stay here again, but for the price, I expect a bit higher polish to the room.

We stayed here one night. Check in was efficient and friendly. Whilst rates are high at the moment because of seasonal demand , this is a reasonably budget priced motel and first impressions were positive. Room ( room 12) was large, clean and nicely presented. We did notice however that the room smelt very musty and despite opening the windows and leaving them open, the smell did not improve. Unfortunate as otherwise a decent place to stay.

My wife and I recently stayed one night at the Sandpiper Motel, Apollo Bay in a King Room with Hill View (and you could glimpse the ocean from the verandah). I would classify the motel as a typical Australian rural motel. The room was on the first floor and was very spacious and included a microwave, plates and cutlery. The bed was comfortable. There is a free guest laundry with a washing machine and dryer which can be used by guests from 08:00 to 22:00. The hotel still uses individual soaps and shampoos (rather than dispensers) and includes a smart bathroom mirror. An interesting touch is that all the linen is monogrammed with the hotel's name.

Prior to check in you are sent a text advising of your room number and the room key is collected from an envelope (with your name on it) placed outside the reception area, so we had no interaction with reception staff.

At $122 for the night we thought the Sandpiper Motel was good value and would be happy to return.

Only stayed the one night but great to be somewhere to recharge our batteries. Staff were lovely, pointed out the sleeping koala in the tree, gave us a lovely fluffy blanket for the cold weather, and really appreciated the flexibility of using their free laundry facilities out with the designated hours. Loved the spacious bathroom, good quality hairdryer, usb charger within the bedside lamp and tea facilities including fresh milk! All within a good price.

Staying with friends in Melbourne, we decided to give them a break and go an overnight trip to Apollo Bay down the Great Ocean Road and chose to stay at the Sandpiper. On checking in, we were given a local map and recommendations on places to eat and visit, which was very helpful.

Our room was spacious, comfortable, equipped with a fridge, toaster, kettle, glasses, bowls and utensils so we could easily take care of our own breakfast in the morning. Most importantly the room had a large and comfortable bed. There was also a decent sized balcony with table and chairs, which we didn't make use of as the weather wasn't exactly ideal.

We checked out in the morning, more than happy with the choice we had made. Later that day, I had a missed call from the Sandpiper and could not access my voicemail until late in the evening,so rang back the next day, curious as to what the issue was. Spoke to Bowden (hope spelling is correct) who had checked us in and he told me that we had managed to leave behind a Nikon camera battery charger and a small box of jewelry. As we were leaving Melbourne the next day for Sydney for 5 nights before heading back to the UK, I didn't know what to do. Thankfully, Bowden volunteered to send the items by express post to our accommodation address in Sydney, which duly arrived two days later. He even sent me a photo of the package along with the tracking number. I cannot thank him enough for his kind consideration.

Above average for this type of motel; it's a cute little place just off the main Great Ocean Road so is very quiet. Bathroom is refurbished to a good modern standard with a huge walk-in shower. Room is nicely decorated, bed is comfortable (a bit hard for some people I guess but it was great for me!) and there is a pleasant view through the trees to the sea. Good heating/air con.
Free parking, easy and quick to check-in and check-out, and just a short walk to the main street in Apollo Bay with the restaurants and shops.

Yes we do! Have a look at our website where you can check availability and make a reservation or call us on 03 5237 6732. How much taller will your 16 year old by then do you think? We can accommodate him/her diagonally in a queen bed, sure thing! We look forward to seeing you.

Hi Ross, If you take the Family Apartment. That will give you 2 bedrooms; one with a queen size bed and the other with a queen and a single. We have Terrace Rooms 8,9 and 10 that have a queen bed and a single. The showers in all these rooms are walk in. Hope this helps
