We stayed 2 nights at the Motel Marengo at the end of February. The room was spotlessly clean and quite spacious with a comfortable Queen bed, a couch with a coffee table, a kitchenette and table and bench seating for eating meals. We were the closest room to the road but although we did hear the traffic during the day we were not disturbed at night. Both mornings the local parrot population came for feeding on the fence near reception. There is a BBQ area and a swimming pool and Marengo beach (an unpatrolled beach) is about a 10min walk down the hill.

We paid about $100 for two adults, and were given a decent sized unit which could sleep five. This would be a three star review if we'd paid more. The guy at reception was pleasant, but we were given no information about the facilities available. The unit smelt of stale smoke, but was clean enough if you didn't look too closely. Bed linen was good quality and clean, the bed was very comfortable. Small things could make a big difference here; e.g. replacing thin towels, cleaning carpets, and scrubbing the pool with a stiff broom. At the end of the day though, we got a good sleep and paid a good price. Would probably stop again.

If you're looking for a clean one-nighter that is suitable for kids - then this is the motel for you - good value! It's a long drive to see the 12 Apostles, this place was just what we needed and surprising that it had a separate bedroom with two single beds. Perfect for what we needed! Will definitely keep this place in mind for next time we make the long drive again.

We planned for 1 night. Arrived few minutes before the reception closed. As soon as we got the keys I got a txt from the manager to evacuate the room no later than 10:10 in the morning. We walked in and the carpet was very smelly and misty. I texted back the manager and no response.
I called in the cleaners in the morning and they said they can’t smell anything and it was very obvious.
All up not worth it at all.

The website photos are totally misleading. The pool is tiny, cold and very unappealing. The quad room was very weirdly laid out, double bed in front of the main door, kitchen area beside the bed, and then a sliding door leads into a small room crammed with bunk beds, with a very small bathroom. Really not suitable for any combination of groups, apart from a family. Expensive for what it is, and quite far from any restaurants or bars. You would need a car to get to Apollo Bay since it is a very long walk. I wouldn't book again.

Where do I begin?
Got into the room which stank of takeaway food which it did for quite some time. The pool was dirty with sand in the bottom of it (no it doesn’t happen in a matter of hours - it’s not been cleaned for days). The spa had scum on the surface - only really noticed this once in it and then had itchy skin later on because of it.
Pulled the sheets back on the main bed to find quite a bit of skin, dirt and hairs from the previous occupant. Called the Manager who told me that the sheets had been changed each day and sometimes hairs get stuck in cracks! Told him that was not true as the hair and dirt were on top of the sheets under the cover , and this is unacceptable . Told me again the sheets had been changed and for my peace of mind the sheets would be changed again for me. Nothing but excuses. A noisy motel (slamming doors and bathroom utilities) on a noisy highway!
Apart from this generally tidy, but better off spending a little bit more for a much better room at a different hotel/motel.

The place is in need of a makeover. To begin with, the young woman at reception treated me as though I was interrupting her afternoon TV programs, offered no advice and disappeared before I was out the door. The first thing we noticed upon entering the room was the musty smell. While generally the place was clean, the grouting around the shower door was dirty and looked like mould was growing. The wi fi was marginal, sometimes nonexistent. Two of the four dining chairs were loose to the point of being near collapse. The bathroom sink was so small that it was impossible to use without getting a lot of water on the floor. It was too cold to use the pool or spa but the deck around them needs replacing. It could be a nice place with a little work, but currently it’s very disappointing.

We are on our way from Lorne to the 12 apostles. We spent a lot of time in Apollo Bay so that stayed a night in Motel Marengo. it is in great location with clean rooms. To our surprise, we spot a Koala in the motel's backyard on a gumtree! The kids loved it. In the morning there are lots of parrots standing on the Fence waiting to be feed.

Short walk to beach and relaxing walk into Apollo bay and away from town centre so got to really unwind. The staff were great and the rooms were clean. will stay there again. There is a seal colony near by with paddle hire if you're up to it but the water is crystal clear so opted for just floating around and trying a bit of body surfing.
