Detailed Reviews
The one positive was the shower was good. No proper conditioner but it was hot.
It is not enough to have furniture that looks okay? But either does not work properly or is terribly uncomfortable. As locals we went to this accommodation feeling positive and left feeling sore and deflated.
We travel regularly for work and enjoyment. We arrived and I sat on the bed and looking back at me was sticky grubby smeared food substance on the tables chrome under the glass.
Not appetizing at all. I got the kitchen cloth soap and water and it came off. The other side of the tables chrome was the same.
At this time I noted one of the white chairs had food drips on the seat that with a little effort came off too. The accommodation services are asking locals to support them so my expectation as a traveler is it's clean.
That the toaster chrome is clean and not smeary with others splash marks and finger prints I started to clean it and stopped I did not use it with rust bits on it.
Use a soft cloth, I do not expect it to be new but I do expect it to be properly cleaned. I took photos.
The power point inside the door is not securely attached to the wall that is a safety Hazard and needs to be repaired as I said in the note outlining our feelings.
The bed in room 2 ranks as by far the very worst hard and terribly painfully uncomfortable we have had the displeasure to be left with ever.
Yes it has good pillows and the sheets were clean. No spare blankets no spare pillows.
No cutting board? No bathroom plug and a TV that only works intermittently on 60,61,62,63, 65 & 68. 30, 3, 34, 33, 2 blanks that experiences interference during the day and intermittently at night.
When we asked the Night Manager if this was usual he said no? He did offer to reset the booster in the office however it made no difference. Not the expensive and upmarket accommodation it suggests it self to be for us. The peeled lifting paint near the bathroom doorway and patches of paint and repairs throughout don't invite you to feel like the usual prices this place lists for are what should be expected???
So many other services in Tasmania are lovely and comfortable and I cannot say that for this one.
We left a detailed note as I was too sore and wanted to be gone this morning. No phone call follow up. By the time we realized the bed was such a nightmare to get into it was after 11pm too late to drive home (a 4 hour drive) and with cars parked around place options looked unlikely, Given we did not wish to be moved to more of the same.
We endured painful horrid sleep on a special weekend with beautiful weather this was not the Fathers Day gift I had intended to give...............

The pristine beach location is amazing with the penguins viewed through a fence at the beach front. Heaps of penguins, kangaroos, wombats and sheep with a knowledgeable guide at 18:15 each evening.
The self contained units were comfortable with 2 bedrooms upstairs, lounge area downstairs and a kitchen for self catering.
The hotel is in need of maintenance although the closeness to the penguins overrode this. The restaurant was closed and the gent in reception seemed to have his attention elsewhere. So much potential if walkways were painted and the games room updated to be more age appropriate with breakfast or snacks available. .

Web pictures show a glamorous resort. It doesn’t show the exposed wires, wall cracks, grime, poor drainage, no hot water, broken windows/lights, half painted with primer, the list goes on. There was even a cupboard door nailed to the wall to cover up a hole!!! Water damage to carpet which felt like it had never been cleaned. Definitely not soundproof - we had wind whistling through gaps in the windows all night long! Couch was so dirty & grubby (white couch) we had to put towels over it to sit down. Built up thick grime on doors, stair rails & walls.
Penguins were so distressed at the ‘Penguin Show’ - white light being used to spot them as they hurried along a fence line to hide under the cars parked on the grass.
On the positive side the beds were comfortable & had crisp sheets (although no ‘skirt’ on the ensemble base).
Couldn’t wait to leave. Overall very disappointing & overpriced considering what you get down the road in Coles Bay for the same price.

Reading previous reviews, I assume some rooms have been renovated and others not. Stayed 2 Nights in a Beachfront Room. It was perfect.
The view was just magical looking right out over the water and the Bay. It was very clean and had all that we needed for a short stay, Microwave, Toaster, Kettle, Dishwashed, Wine Fridge. There is also a restaurant onsite who also do room service. Our meals were delivered to our room within 30 minutes and were very nice. The menu has a reasonable selection however Bicheno also has several eateries however be aware that things close early. No late dining available anywhere.
There is a lovely pool area at Diamond Beach, a nice bar overlooking the water and the bonus is the Penguin Viewing which is included in your rate. These gorgeous little penguins can be viewed each night on the Viewing platform onsite so no need to pay extra to an outside company for viewing or a tour.
We really enjoyed our stay and planning to return.
A bonus they do also allow Pets although I would suggest confirming this prior to booking.
A lovely place to stay in Bicheno.

Made a detour on the way to Hobart via the East Coast, just for one night.
Overlooking Diamond Island (which is accessible at low tide via a sand bar), the complex is set on a paddock leading down to a private beach, which is home to a penguin rookery (night viewing)
The in-house restaurant has a wide range of options and the two meals we had were delicious, well presented and ample serving at a reasonable price.
Won’t be our last trip here.

We stayed at Diamond Island in a 2 bedroom apartment for one night. On arrival to the property we were informed that the restaurant was currently closed for renovations (which we had no word of prior). We then went to our very basic 2 bedroom apartment and found that the WiFi and free to air TV both did not work. The manger came to fix for us which was great but unfortunately it was not able to be repaired. We were then offered a move to a different room with a working TV (with 2 children and paying $250 a night you expect the TV to be working and the internet). The room we were moved to was a downgrade from our first room and instead of 2 single beds for kids, they had to share a double bed. The beach nearby is lovely but you can access the beach from anywhere really. Beds were very uncomfortable and pillows were rock hard. Shower was tiny and some lights in the room were not working. Heating worked well. But overall for the money we paid we would have expected more.

You can’t beat the location of this resort if you want to be close to the penguins, Bicheno town centre and right on the beach.
Stayed here for 1 night in villa 26. I believe 26 and 27 are the nicer villas and the two villas directly facing the beach. It had a single sofa bed and king bed upstairs. The room could definitely be better maintained and upgraded but I must admit if felt clean and comfortable and perfectly acceptable for a night.
We had dinner at the resort - food came out quickly and was delicious. All meals that came out were large portions.
We joined the Bicheno Penguin Tour (pre-book online external company) which was excellent. They close the gate between the beach and property just before the tour begins so only people on the tour can participate. We met our tour group at the gate. The tour lasted about 1.5hrs and we watched the penguins arrive on the beach ans walk their way up to the seating area. Penguins walk right up close as they pass you to get to their burrows which are all around the resort. Even had a wombat walk along the beach in the background as the penguins came up. If you want to be up close to the penguins I thoroughly recommend joining the Bicheno Penguin Tour as opposed to the resort’s Penguin viewing session, which is standing on a platform behind the gate (behind a lot of bush) relying on stray penguins to walk past, especially during the low season.
The next morning we saw so many Penguin foot prints all over the beach. The resort staff were friendly at checkin and restaurant. We thoroughly enjoyed our time.

The price to stay is up there. Accommodation is clean, rooms do require an upgrade. The place is dog-accommodating, but you can't access the beach as it's classed as a conservation area with Parks and Wildlife, which is understandable as you can see the penguins come in at night. The restaurant food is terrible so I suggest you dine somewhere else or cook in your room as it's self-contained. There is a nice outdoor pool but not heated, so suggest you stay in the warmer months.
Overall totally disappointed and have stayed at nicer places on the east coast

We stayed one night at the Diamond Island Resort & Penguin Show in January, 2020, but if I had known what a great a location it was we actually would have stayed longer.
We had a beautiful, self-contained 2br, loft room which was amazing value for money. The hotel is at the quiet end of Bicheno by itself, and right on a very stunning part of the beach.
There is a great kids park on the lawn and an absolutely amazing toy room in the reception/ restaurant area which my toddler did not want to leave.
Obviously the little penguins are an amazing feature of this hotel too. It is not everyday you get to see these beautiful creatures and certainly not everyday you get to see them for free.
What a gem, we'd definitely stay here again!

We recently spent three nights here in apartment #26. The apartment is two stories with the bedroom being on the second floor. There is a half bathroom on the first floor and a large full bathroom on the second floor. Overall the apartment is large and very nice.
The WiFi and downstairs tv never worked, however, during our stay. The upstairs tv only worked on the last night. The tv problems weren’t limited to our apartment as other guests complained about it.
We stayed here partly on the recommendation of a friend who had seen a lot of penguins here in October. We weren’t so fortunate. We looked for them on two nights. We saw two one night but none on the other.
We ordered take away food for dinner one night. The food was pretty good, especially the Korean dishes.
Based on our stay I would normally give them a 3. I rated them a 4 though because they cut our rate by 20% because they were slow. They did this on their own without me requesting it. I have never seen that done and give them a lot of credit for it.

We were so appalled at the condition of the three units shown us and the real safety issues such as no working light on the stairs with bedrooms upstairs and bathroom downstairs we didn't stay. The owner was every bit as rude as the manager and refused to refund our money
I would advise any potential tourist to stay well clear of this so called resort
