One of the greatest assets of Sandpiper is the ownership. John and Annette are two wonderful, down to earth people that create a very warm, welcoming feel to the property. They’re fun to talk to and give the place a soul.

The cottages themselves are quite sufficient and are stocked with everything you could think of and more. Some places I have stayed at cut corners in this regard but not here.

Then there’s the beach! In less than 60 seconds, you can reach a gorgeous peach with practically no one on it. It was nice to return from a long day of hiking at Freycinet and be able to jump into a pristine ocean upon my return.

We stayed here for four nights and wished it had been for longer!
Our one bedder was very cute and the breakfast tray of goodies was delicious. Expect eggs, bread, jam, butter and a couple of types of cereal and milk. The cottages are nicely spaced out so you have a nice feeling of seclusion. Its an easy stroll down to the beach and my husband was out fishing in the mornings.
The cottage is spacious and well furnished with books, magazines and videos for a big night in. The kitchen is well kitted out for cooking with a few condiments as well.
A sneaky peak in to the visitors book shows a large number of repeat visitors and alot of locals which is a huge endorsement.
The cottages are about a 10 minute drive in Bicheno which has a small IGA if you want to self cater although the options aren't great. Its also home to the Lobster shack which is not to be missed.
This place is perfect if you want to breathe in sea air, walk along the beach and have peace and quiet.
We look forward to going back.

The Oceanview Cottage has everything you could wish for in a self-contained unit. The cupboards were stocked with a range of useful goods - olive oil, sauces, paper bags, etc.
I appreciated the coffee plunger coffee with Illy coffee provided. A generous breakfast hamper was provided on check-in.
The potbelly heater looked new (kindling and firewood provided). Excellent lighting and comfortable furniture. The cottage is designed for privacy.
Enjoy glorious a sunrise from the couch before a morning swim (1 minute walk). Walk for kilometres along the shore. Great value, considering all the extras provided.

Tip: Book directly with the owners over the phone, rather than use 3rd party booking site.
Bay of Fires (taking The Gardens Road after St Helens) is only 70 minutes north.

The cottages have thoughtful little touches throughout from the welcome hamper with fresh sour dough bread and jams and cereals and eggs from their lovely free-range chooks to fresh flowers on the table. The whole feel of the property is one of relaxed, serenity. The beach is the most beautiful beach in Tasmania. It really is pet friendly and our dogs loved the walks on the beach and being able to sleep on their beds by the fire. The bed was really comfy and beautifully made up. The kitchen is actually fully equipped, you can very comfortably make a meal there. Free wifi that actually worked! The host is relaxed and friendly and they make sure you have everything you need whilst leaving you to enjoy the peace. We just wish it would have been available for longer. Bicheno is a lovely beachside village.

Our four night stay in one of the Sandpiper Ocean Cottages was everything we had wanted for a relaxing, peaceful getaway. The close proximity to the excellent Denison Beach and the privacy of the cottages, enabled by their surrounding bush environment were only two highlights. Another one was the thoughtful and generous breakfast basket provided to us. We loved the quirky wooden characters dotted around the site and the wooden shed with useful beach supplies. Two separately located benches on the short walk to the beach were a thoughtful addition for looking out over the ocean in the early morning or later evening to make the most of the beautiful scenery. The cottage was well appointed and the kitchen well supplied with utensils. A very enjoyable stay and we hope to be back in the future.

Thank you to John and Annette for a great holiday. We were not only welcomed to this magnificent property with a basket of fresh eggs, bread, milk, butter, cereals and condiments but the kitchen cupboards and fridge contained all the necessities one could ever need. Even with Bicheno only 7 km from this gorgeous cabin and setting it felt like we were the only travellers here. The cabins are secluded from each other and the little track to the beach with the bench seat to sit and admire the ocean made us feel like royalty. After exploring all that is on offer on this coast each day we relaxed in front of the wood fire and listened to the ocean in the very comfortable bed. We could not ask for a more relaxing and comfortable stay. We will see you again soon as this is one of the best holidays we have had.

This was our first stop on a driving holiday around Tas. We have been to Bicheno before, staying in the township, but this time decided to stay here, as it has beach access and just out of town and secluded. We stayed in the Ocean View cottage, which is perfect for couples. It is very spacious and well equipped with everything you need. It was clean and well presented and modern. It has a wood log heater, although we didn’t get a chance to use it as the weather was warm. The hosts are friendly and helpful, and we were provided with a nice welcome hamper which included milk, bread, fresh eggs, cereals and spreads. Found the bed very comfortable, which made getting up in the mornings a little hard. There is a bbq on the front deck, which we made use of each night and for some breakfasts. All in all, very happy to have stayed here and will definitely stay again should we travel to Tas in the future. Also, although we don’t have pets, it is dog friendly. Recommend to check out and stay here.

Four nights with my dog in Sandpiper Cottage was a perfect getaway. This is the third visit to these cottages and it will not be the last.
The property has so much to offer - private cottages, one minute walk to the beach, everything available in the cottage, a generous welcome food basket on arrival, dogs are welcome and much more.
The cottage was clean and neat, kitchen had more than the essentials to use, fireplace for winter nights and dressing gowns in the wardrobe!
Congratulations to the hosts for providing such a lovely retreat.

Excellent accommodation tucked amongst the trees for privacy yet a short walk through the dunes to the endless beach. A warm welcome and a box of breakfast provisions on arrival was most welcomed. Our cottage had an cosy fire with plenty of wood provided as well as super efficient wall panel heaters, no reason to be cold here . A large rear verandah with a thoughtful dog gate provided so our doggie could enjoy the views and ocean smells with us. After an early walk on the beach on a very cold morning we head back to the warm cottage to enjoy a delicious breakfast, real coffee and good book. Three days of this, doing absolutely nothing just enjoying beach walks and the surroundings….perfect !

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Sandpiper Ocean Cottages. Everything was very clean and comfortable. The cottage was really well appointed with everything needed for a long stay if desired. There is privacy created with shrubs planted between each cottage. We had a little family of Paddymelons that visited us each night right in front of our cottage. The beach is beautiful and we enjoyed evening walks, there is a path right from the cottages through some low dunes. The highlight for me was an indoor fire place. Coming from hot, steamy Brisbane it was a delight to have an evening in Dec cool enough for a fire.

Hi Breagh I am pleased to hear you'd like to return to Sandpiper. The rate for 2 nights next week is $300 in Beachcomber or Driftwood. Let me know if you'd like me to book you in. We have been having perfect weather here, frosty mornings and beautiful sun-shiny days. Kind Regards Jenny
