The hotel is located within 10 mins' walk from the city centre. We had a room facing the pond and we could watch seagulls coming in for a swim while having tea at our own porch! There is a shared laundry and drying area outside our room. There is free parking at the premise and you can take a short hike up the whalers lookout just opposite the hotel!

The reception staff was very friendly, giving us tips on where to eat and location of the supermarket, etc. She also helped us print some forms required for our next activity without charge.

We had booked into one of the bungalows but it seems we were upgraded to one of the new apartments. They are 2 bedroom but when you are a couple they just lock off the other bedroom which makes sense. The apartments are pretty much brand new and have a full kitchen in them. There was a large lounge area that opened onto a deck area overlooking the water. The couple of days we were there the winds were near cyclonic so didn't get to try the pool or canoeing pond.
Location is excellent with a short walk to the blowhole and into the town area of Bicheno.
Would certainly recommend this place

Villa (3 bedroom) needs attention. Sliding door latch onto balcony did not close/lock, I mentioned this to reception but nothing happened, some problems with the wood outside also - not good if you have a sleepwalker. Couch needed a good clean. Clothes line was inaccessible due to overgrowth of trees and shrubs, management did provide a clothes airer but that wasn;t the best for a family of 5 to get washing dry. Pool was not heated despite being advertised on the website as a heated pool, canoe pond could also do with a clean.
Beds were fine and location was good but I realise it is a big complex to maintain but a little update would go a long way.

Thank youmorris80 for taking the time to leave a review. I am sorry you did not enjoy every aspect of your stay. The property is over 44 years old and unfortunately there are only so many rooms we can renovate during one year, we have renovated in the last 4 years 9 bungalows out of the 18 that we have on site, the bungalow that you were in is on the list, this is were we will fix the doors. The clothesline was still usable, but we do apologise that it was not fully accessible. Also, we do not advertise that the pool is heated, it has not been heated for the last 2 years. The pond at the time of your stay was full of mud from the recent rain something that takes time to clear up, the only other way is to drain it and refill it which takes time and money. We certainly appreciate your feedback and hope you consider visiting us again. Kind regards Bicheno By The Bay

Bicheno was the last port of call on our 2 week trip of Tassie and we had 4 nights here. After the accommodation that Flight Centre had organised for us, (we normally do it ourselves but Covid makes this hard so we relied on Flight Centre), we contacted Rowena a few days before we were due to arrive, lucky for us that we did, 4 nights in a motel room would have been fairly ordinary, nice though it was, not much room. Rowena was able to move us into an A frame cabin for no extra cost for 3 of the 4 nights. Made it quite comfortable and cosy for 3 nights and the motel room was good for 1 night.
Highlight was seeing the Fairy penguin that lived under the front stairs come in on the second night there.
Rowena and the staff are lovely people and will try to accommodate your wishes if they can.
Bicheno is a great place to stay for seafood, tassie devils and penguins. Lots to see, the Blow Hole, the Zoo was great and worth a visit, long lunch wine tour is a must.

A Beautiful little self contained two bedroom Bungalow. Definitely the accommodation highlight of our week long stay in Tasmania. We visited the local bakery and brought back our breakfast to enjoy on our own private balcony surrounded by tall trees and views to the ocean. A real treat.

This establishment was booked for a work stopover. Paying close to $200 you would expect a decent standard of accommodation for one person. I definitely did not get this . Please see the pics attached. Stained carpet in multiple spots, chair and couch so stained I didn’t even want to sit down. “Kitchen “ something you would find in a third world country. I could go on but to top it off I got to experience what it would be like living in the kitchen of a Chinese restaurant as the stale Chinese food smell was with me for the duration of the stay. Very happy to leave! One positive was a clean and comfortable bed.

Thank you garyandpoppie for taking the time to leave a review. I am sorry you did not enjoy your stay. We would like to know which room you have stayed in so that we can look at the carpet and the couch you are referring to as we have only recently had the carpets professionally cleaned. If you could email images etc to info@bichenobythebay.com.au that would be greatly appreciated. We certainly appreciate your feedback and hope you consider visiting us again. Great location, fantastic scenery. All the facilities in the cottage worked well including microwave, air-con, bath, washing machine, TV, comfy bed... we loved the view, walked up to one of the two look-out hills, walked to the Lobster Shack for dinner one night, walking distance to the blow-hole. Can recommend.

Some good things:

It is in a good location. Very close (walking distance) to the blow hole and lookout and a short stroll into shops or the beach.

Staff were friendly.

Tennis court and small playground good for young children.

Our two bedroom cabin slept 5 comfortably.

Some negatives:

The “heated” pool was not heated in the slightest. Was freezing. My children were very disappointed.

The cabin was dirty. It had a strong odour when opening the door. There was even someones old dirty slipper under the couch (easily visable). Especially grotty was the kitchenette and utensils which is one of the “please wash dishes and leave kitchen how you found it”. Not sure if people before us washed anything but glasses and plates etc had a greasy/oily film over them. The fridge was not very clean inside. It is older and the bathrooms very tired, which is fine, if everything is clean.

Would we stay again? No. At $250 a night I expect something a little more but we did enjoy Bicheno and surrounding areas!!

Great location, friendly and helpful staff.

Bicheno By The Bay manages to be far enough from the main road that you don't hear any traffic noise... yet a five minute walk takes you to: the Whaler's Lookout Reserve, the Blow Hole, a supermarket, bakery, newsagent and a cafe. It has to be the best location in the town.

The cabins here are very individual and varied. The location is great, and the rooms are clean and have everything you would need. There was cooking facilities in the room we had (if I'd needed them). There is also an onsite pool if the weather was warmer and a small lake with canoes on it as well as a playground. Would be a great family place to stay. It's close to the blowhole and the town is in walking distance. I would stay there again.

Your dates are already past, unless you are asking about 2019. Best way to find out and compare prices is to use hotel booking sites and directly at the property website itself.

The 3 bedroom was actually a one bedroom with a bathroom right next door to a 2 bedroom with one bathroom. We were a group of 5.

Hi there is only 1 bathroom, not sure if they have any bungalows with 2? Take a look at their website for the 3-bedroom bungalow. Yes, we drove to Wineglass Bay, less than an hour and didn't join any tour. They do have a cruise which takes you to the bay by boat but quite expensive, I think over AUD200. Please note you have to walk for 1.5 hrs from the car park to the lookout to see the bay. If you want to walk right down to the beach, it takes 4-5 hrs I think, can't remember exactly. There is a sign board at the entrance of the trail telling you the walking distance. Hope this helps.
