Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This peaceful motel facility was the perfect choice for myself & my mother. It’s ideal for those who cannot use stairs with ramps to the upper level. We were looking for a quiet place to stay, to rejuvenate, catch up on some business & as a base to visit the islands attractions. Our room was extremely clean & the staff were very friendly. They also went out of their way to provide much needed information about sights to visit on the Island. It’s located right on the seafront 1km from the Main Street (10 mins walk) which is ideal for those who don’t have transport. Extremely comfortable beds, spacious rooms & fabulous showers. The buffet breakfast covered everything you could ask for. A great little yacht club on the beachfront serves meals on Friday nights. We will definitely recommend to our friends/family & will be back. Thanks

I find it really frustrating when I review a hotel carefully and pick a location that has 4 stars to arrive to accomodation that doesn’t look like the photos. The decor is very cheap and basic, ashtrays outside room full of old cigarette butts, garden in desperate need of weeding, picking up rubbish and tidying up. The bathroom been done up recently but the shower head was not functioning properly and had a single stream flowing and toilet roll holder loose.
Road workers were staying at this hotel with numerous trucks parked so when they left in the early hours of the morning we were woken. Would be nice if perhaps the trucks were parked out on the street.
Overall pretty basic place that is barely maintained and very outdated and tired.

The place is 15 min walk from the restaurants and right in front of the bay. You can easily complete the 5km walking trail that starts close by. The water is calm and good for swimming, taking the boat, and kayaking. The hotel serves only breakfast. The rooms are a good size but the walls are thin so you can hear the neighbor snore.
Overall, a nice place to stay.

The bushfires have affected the island but this area is safe.

I pray for the safety of everyone here.

Hi Angelism, Thanks very much for the great review. I am glad the weather was good enough to go for a swim. The walking trail that leaves from the front is a great experience and takes in some amazing views, we are glad you got to enjoy it. Many Thanks, Michael

Staying in Kingscote for 5 nights was the first mistake of our trip to Kangaroo Island. Practically nothing open over the Xmas - NY break. So paying $220 per night for basically a motel room in hindsight was way overpriced. The room was clean and staff were friendly. The bed was hard and pillows were thin. Cups and glasses were not changed or cleaned unless we did it ourself. The windows out to the sea view were filthy. The car park had rubbish floating around. $5 to use a broken washing machine was a bit much and the dryer was also broken. If it cost under $100 per night I probably wouldn’t have even written a review, but at $220 per night for basic services is ridiculous. Only real positive is the shower pressure was amazing.

Very clean, lovely staff. Unfortunately room had large rip in door fly screens so we could not enjoy sea breeze. Not enough pillows. Continental breakfast was $15 each for basic toast and cereal.

No face washers provided. The bathroom tap dripped. And tiles were chipped, overall just very dated.

A great place to base yourself from when visiting Kangaroo Island. Rooms all have sea views and are well maintained - there’s also plenty of parking. A family friendly beach is just across the road and Kingscote’s Main Street is a 5 minute drive. Staff are friendly and helpful.

This was a Ferry/hotel package deal. There was a lot of work going on around the place. Our room was pretty good, although the towels were grey in colour and very thin. Beds were comfy. Rooms are not serviced unless you slide the little sign across the door. Unfortunately for us, this meant we ended up with an almost overflowing rubbish bin by our 3rd day. Be mindful of the fact that the place is a couple of minutes drive out of town and there's no taxis on Kangaroo Island. We would have loved to have tried the Indian food, but only found out there was actually an Indian restaurant when we went to write this review on Trip Advisor! There is very little information about the area in the room and very little info offered on check in (eg that there was an Indian restaurant on site). The rooms are very dated, but it looks like there's a bit of work being done as our bathroom had been updated. There are absolutely no cooking facilities in the room, so don't expect to have a microwave or toaster. The hosts did offer for us to use the toaster in the dining room, but that was all too hard really. All in all, an OK stay, but it wasn't really worth the money we paid in our opinion.

On arrival at 14:16 we tried to get our key but the hotel reception was locked and there appeared to be no one around. Phoned the contact number I had and the manager/ owner advised that he had popped into town for some food. He came straight back and was quickly resolved and was shown to our room.
It was apparent from outside it needed a bit of a clean up.
The room itself was large and again some of it was a little too red the table and chairs had seen better days but still functional, mirror needed a better clean and there was lots of dust on top of the lights over the bed. The bedding was very clean the bed large and comfortable. The fridge was stocked with milk and water and there was plenty of tea and coffee. The bathroom overall looked new and was lovely however the shower cubicle required a better clean especially at the bottom where it was marked and black. Towels were clean the floor mat ragged.
Shower gel, shampoo and conditioner was provided along with hand soap.
Overall the hotel did what it needed to do, they are quite obviously trying to offer some home comforts. We was happy to stay and in fairness we were happy to stay there and would return again .

We stayed only 1 night in this motel with a very good location just across the street from the beach. The room was spacious & reasonably clean & quiet. The bathroom was tiny & not nice at all with a very used shower curtain. Breakfast was hot & adequate with really delicious baked tomatoes. The owner was hands on,very friendly & chatty. He also told us about the seals at the jetty which was a good tip as we spent a happy hour watching them play & also spotted some gorgeous pelicans & lots of blck faces cormorants.

Hi there, Thank you for taking the time for the review. We pride on providing clean and comfortable rooms and friendly, welcoming atmosphere for our quests. The Ocean View Queen room do have the older bathroom, however these are very clean. It is wonderful having a variety of wildlife right here in Kingscote and we love hearing about the enjoyment everyone has seeing them. Thank you for staying with us and supporting the recovery of Kangaroo Island. Best regards, Gaenor

Our room suited our family nicely. It was spacious and easily accessible. Loved the ocean view and just a short walk into town. The staff were welcoming and accommodating and all facilities for breakfast and dinner were everything you needed and thought of. Relaxed atmosphere and friendly.

Hi Emma, Yes we have a self service laundry on site. It is open 24 hours and takes coins which we can change at the office if you need. We also have powder available and dryers which again take coins or if you prefer there is a cloths line with pegs which is free. Regards, Alex

how far from ferry and is there a bus
Answer from Motel_Manager_2015
Adelaide, Australia2 contributions
The ferry arrives in Penneshaw which is a 45min drive to the town of Kingscote, where we are located. Kingscote is the largest town on Kangaroo Island and is well located for touring the island. There is no public transport on Kangaroo Island but there are shuttles which can be arranged through the ferry company SeaLink or KI Transfers. More information is available on our website.
