Detailed Reviews
Our room was nice and it had a good sized balcony with a table and 4 chairs. Beds comfy and the bathroom was a good size. We loved the pool, particularly how quiet it was and the shallow kids section. Laundry was free to use as well. Breakfast was good, however some mornings things like boiling water for a cup of tea took 40 minutes to be put out (despite us asking 2 or 3 times).
The negatives - housekeeping was hit and miss and by miss, I mean missed us all together. Our bin was only emptied once in a 4 night stay (and the room had one teeny tiny bin). We didn't get towels at all one day and as reception was shut, we got some pool towels and made do. Reception shut at 5pm on weekdays and even earlier on weekends. The overall vibe from staff is that they hate working there and they need a uniform so staff at least look presentable.
The place had just changed ownership the day before we arrived, so perhaps things will improve. We are highly unlikely to return.

Typical looking 4 star resort without the trimmings. We stayed 2 nights but were very disappointed. Reception hours are between 8am and 5pm. You are given a piece of paper on arrival which outlines facilities etc. As per the sheet “Upon departure, your unit should be left in a neat and tidy condition. Rubbish is to be removed and placed in the garbage chutes located to the left of the lifts on your level.” They then go on to say they will charge your credit card for the time it takes to restore your room to its original condition if you don’t comply. We paid a lot less, had more room facilities and a much friendlier atmosphere at the 3 star motels.

Response from Pelican Waters Resort, General Manager at Pelican Waters Resort
Responded 24 Oct 2021
Hi Anitas, Im sorry to hear you didn't feel we had many facilities onsite and fail to compare to a 3 star motel. Our resort offers tennis courts, sim golf, sports bar, restaurant, 2 pools, a hairdresser, bbq area and more which we feel are excellently maintained. Asking a guest to remove rubbish and keep unit in a tidy manner upon departure is a pretty standard request in resorts, motels and any accommodation really. This prevents housekeepers walking into a dumping ground where guests have abused the rooms resulting in hours of cleaning to have the apartment back to standard for the next guest. We like to ensure all guests are arriving into a beautiful room and presentation.

We booked a family trip here and have been looking forward to this little 3 night getaway for about 9 months. With a name like Sebel, you expect a good hotel experience.
Pros
Modern clean room
Great pools - 1 is heated
Great golf course, ask for a room overlooking the pool area. I ended up in a room overlooking the entrance awning
Cons
Poor service. Some team members come across as rude and unwilling to assist.
BBQs are not near the pools. They are located at the entrance of the hotel near the tennis courts. I found this to be weird.
Some parts of the hotel a little run down
Restaurant/bar not open on Sunday’s and Mondays. Why???
Breakfast is poor. Cold pancakes, cold waffles, disgusting scrambled eggs, no table service, no coffee (there’s one machine people can use), long lines.
No activities.
It’s just a disappointing experience across the board. A Lazy hotel with so much potential. I suggest booking the breakfree resort down the road which I have also stayed in and had a great family holiday.

Simply put: Our stay was disappointing, our room was dirty & this place is in desperate need of a facelift & new management.
We booked a Spa Suite for my birthday for 2 nights. Firstly, we found a used face washer still hanging in the shower. Secondly, we wanted a spoon to eat the birthday cake we’d bought... opened the drawer & took one out only to find it was crusted over with brown residue. Thirdly, there were big brown stains on the curtain in our bedroom. We were so grossed out, we emailed reception during our stay. They simply replied by saying someone could come remove the dirty face cloth & spoon (the next day...) There was no apology at all. Not to mention, the ‘Free Wifi’ did not work, regardless of how many times we called reception. The breakfast downstairs was awful. Looking around the restaurant we could see/hear other guests complaining. I have never ever in my life time ordered pancakes at a “4*” Restaraunt and out it came - ONE burnt pancake drenched in sauce, No ice cream, no fruit, nothing! Not to mention you can hear the floors above you stomp around their rooms. The carpets in the rooms are stained & worn. Management or whoever was on the front desk during the 27-29 Sept are completely oblivious to the poor experience guests are experiencing. There was absolutely NOTHING to eat on site for these dates as the restaurant is closed on Sunday & Monday. Not even so much as a vending machine. Other than a beautiful pool with views, this hotel is run down & we would definitely not pay top dollar for it. Also, you have to wash your own dishes and put them away (there is no dishwasher) so the cleanliness of the cutlery/plates/cups etc is left up to the previous guest. Even your own rubbish has to be taken out to a shoot. If we wanted to do housework we would of stayed at home. Mega disappointed. No response from management. Never again.

My wife & I spent 5 days at this hotel in a 1 bed spa suit with pool view during the period 1-5 Dec on a package that included free breakfast. This hotel would be the worst hotel we have stayed in. The suit was not cleaned after the previous guests left & us occupying the room, although their facebook page now states that the restaurant is closed during our stay we weren’t advised of this prior to or at any time during our stay.m
We found the following
1. We had to wash the cups & utensils used by previous guests before we could use them.
2. There was a large dried blood smeared on one of the curtains.
3. Our free breakfast consisted of fruit juice, cereal, toast & jam, tea & coffee was available but had to be paid for. Breakfast on the second morning was the same except tea & coffee wasn’t available.
4. There was no TV reception on either TV in our suit for 2 days.
5. The light switch to the bathroom light didn’t work properly.
6. Although this is a non smoking hotel ashtrays were provided on every deck/balcony.
7. The undercover secure parking area was not secure.
8. When you asked to speak to somebody in charge to complain to there was never anybody available, complaints sent by email were never replied to.
This hotel was an absolute disgrace & we would not recommend this hotel to anybody

COVID has affected this hotel so much with being under staffed.
Breakfast dining they forgot our order and the guests were piling up wanting to dine in. The menu for dinner is highly priced
The room was clean and has everything you need but bed itself was so tiny ! I also don’t like how they don’t makeup your room every day for the price you pay to stay here.
Not much to do around Golden Beach probably wouldn’t come back.

We arrived were told our room was not ready yet as it was being cleaned and was not ready yet. We asked for a room with a pool view, they responded saying our booking was for a classic room that was a renovated room. We returned at 2pm the check-in time we entered the room, it smelt musty and dirty from the second we walked in. We found the carpet and entire room was packed with thick dust, food and wrappers on the floor, the carpet was stained and being eaten away from micro mites, mould on the ceiling and tiles in the bathroom, we could visibly see two cans of XXXX Gold under the minibar cabinet surrounded by food wrappers etc. The list went on and on. The manager came up to the room only at our request, she agreed the room was unacceptable, blamed the cleaner and upgraded us to a suite/room overlooking the pool to make up for the disaster. We attended Happy Hour at the bar, we ordered cocktails (Pinacolada's and margaritas) we took a sip and it tasted like poison. Overall the stay was tainted due to the rocky start and the lack of empathy from the staff. I emailed the general manager of the resort and he did not reply or call me as per my request. I have now lodged a formal complaint with Accor Live Limitless who owns the resort and will be waiting to hear from them. Finally, the only saving grace was their pool, very clean and enjoyable to swim in.

Disapointed that on arrival, we were given a piece of paper, (which we did not read until day 2), advising that the room would not be serviced daily, (by that time I had put the towels on the floor to be changed) only if you stayed for over a week then your room would be serviced after day 3 or 4, you can ask for clean towels but at a charge. Also you must remove rubbish and put it in the garbage room shute on leaving, otherwise your credit card would be charged. I have never experienced this in any hotel/motel, even 2-3 stars, resort any where else in the world. We stayed 4 days, on day 3 my husband asked for more toilet paper and clean towels, husband asked why our room had not been serviced, we were told, it was a studio appartment, reception was quite flippant, but agreed to the request, although did not replace either, had to go ask a second time, told we did not have to pay for the clean towels.

We stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment overlooking the pool and golf course. The views were absolutely stunning and very calming.
The apartment was well maintained and extremely clean and comfortable and we were able to cook some meals which is great when you are away for a longer time.
We ate in the restaurant and the food was well presented and delicious. All the staff were friendly. We also had room service for dinner one night and it was brought up to our apartment very quickly and was still warm very apetising.
The golf course is well maintained and a pleasure to play on.
Even though this resort is a little out of Caloundra there are plenty of facilities to use. The pool area is large and beautiful and well maintained. The grounds are immaculate. We will certainly stay here again when we return to Caloundra.

We stayed for 10 nights early January in a one bedroom spa suite, with our young daughter.
I enjoyed the stay. The restaurant is very good - chefs and staff are friendly excellent. Food quality was very good.
Hotel not located on the beach - beach about 10 mins drive. Didn’t worry me, but I can see this being an issue for some.
The resort pools were outstanding . One large pool and a smaller rectangular pool, located in a nicely set pool area.
Staff were friendly. Accomodation was of a good quality - what you would expect with a SEBEL facility.
I don’t have any real negatives as the venue suited us perfectly.
The resort has a high portion of permanent resident apartments built into it. Because of this, the level of staffing seems to be lean as the hotel staffing not proportional to the number of rooms but to the max number of hotel guests. Can result in missing out on dinner if you don’t book in advance as they just don’t have the staff to deal with surges in demand.
All in all, a great stay.
