Salt @ South West Rocks offers 16 Luxury Self Contained Villas, all with views over the beautiful Macleay River. Our property is made up over two sections which contains 1, 2 or 3 bedroom Villas. All our villas are beautifully decorated and inspired by the freshness of coastal chic designs. The kitchens in each villa are fully equipped with quality appliances and accessories, they even have a washer & dryer (if you feel the need). Each section of Salt offers a heated mineral swimming pool, sunbeds, and a BBQ area. Salt is the perfect location for couples and families to either relax and unwind or to take advantage of our location for water activities. Our property is a nature lovers paradise where you will enjoy watching our resident kangaroos come out to feed as the sun starts to set and you may even be fortunate enough to see dolphins cruising the river, and this can all be viewed from your own private deck. Between the two Salt complexes, you will find the Riverside Tavern which is open daily for lunch and dinner, it is also a great spot to relax and take in the scenery. The boat ramp and jetty are only 250 metres down the road if you want to launch your own boat or do a spot of fishing.

Having just stayed three days at this stunning property, we can only say, we will be back. What an amazing find this property was! Immaculately clean and tidy, the cabins are stunningly fitted out with the best appliances and beautiful decor. The bed was so comfortable! The view spectacular. The peace and serenity was just what we needed. We had such a relaxing stay. The Tavern next door was awesome, the food was unbelievably good! I would recommend this property to anyone! You won't be disappointed!

The paint has only just dried on Salt which makes it an awesome luxury place to stay! The individual one or two bedroom cabins on stilts are set out well and have all the amenities and facilities that you need for a relaxing stay. We arrived in winter so not really pool weather, but the pool looked nice a private and would never be that busy with such few cabins. There are also communal BBQs (unfortunately both out of order when we stayed) There are a lot of kangaroos around, which is nice for us city folk, but when you come face to face with one with small children it can be a bit daunting - therefore suggest some guidance should be available in the cabins.

Yes, I would say that the pool would of been a bit chilly based upon the time of your stay. The kangaroos are certainly nice to see especially for those who are not used to the native wildlife venturing into their property. As with all wild animals, they should never be approached or fed. We appreciate your feedback and we now have signage around our property to inform our guests not to feed the kangaroos and information within our villa compendiums. My Partner and I came up for the first time for his birthday and it was great, the cabins are so cute with everything in them. So homey and so well designed and a great location. We came up however and got stuck because of the flooding across NSW, we were originally from Newcastle and we checked out on the Sunday but drove to Taree and got sent away as everything was closed. Pretty nervous as we had no where to go, we called the lady that looks after Salt or possibly owns it and she was amazing and so accomodating. She offered the same room again if we came back and she offered a discount which made us feel a lot better considering everything. We got flooded into south west rocks as soon as we drove back but Gayle was nothing but short then amazing, making sure we were okay, that where we were at salt was safe and updating us everyday on the roads etc so we knew when we could leave. She didn’t had to do all that but she did. We will most certainly be back when it’s nicer weather, but we had an amazing stay considering the circumstances.

As other reviews have mentioned, this is a great property with spotlessly clean modern villas enabling privacy with all the necessary modern conveniences. Most villas directly face the river from their verandahs and it is only a short drive into town. The property is split into 2 sections with a pool and BBQ area also available. Bed was very comfortable and the Villa was spacious..
We had requested a quiet Villa away from the nearby Tavern, which wad accommodated by Gayle when we booked. It turns out the Tavern caused no noise whatsoever. Instead, we were disturbed 4 times in 2 days by noisy gardening maintenance. We had to abandon our peaceful breakfast on our Verandah one morning as the ride on mower circled our villa countless times. Then when we moved inside, out came the whipper snipper etc right underneath our Villa. The noise was horrendous.
We ended up abandoning the Villa to go into South West Rocks and thought we;d try enjoying lunch on the Verandah instead, The gardener wasnt there initially but halfway through our lunch there he was back AGAIN. And twice more was the surrounding lawn mowed /cut / trimmed the very next day. At all times the gardening staff were more than comfortable with their ear protection equipment on, but totally oblivious to the fact guests like us were at their Villa.
Ive stayed at some bigger resorts with bigger gardens to maintain and NEVER been disturbed that often. The only way we would return to this property is if the gardening staff and schedule were far more aware of guest comfort and our desire for a peaceful stay. Maybe we were just unlucky being in an end villa?

I am terribly sorry that you did not enjoy your stay as much as you would have liked due to the noise associated with performing our grounds maintenance. The ground maintenance in one section of Salt is normally done within a couple of hours, not over two days and we do not commence our garden maintenance until after 10am. We spent two nights at Salt, departing this morning. The villa was beautifully appointed and thoughtful inclusions made our stay very comfortable. The full kitchen is well equipped with everything you need: right down to measuring cups and spoons. The bathroom was lovely - the large shower with fibreglass base was appreciated. The large bed was so comfortable. We stopped at South West Rocks on our way home from 2 weeks on the Gold Coast. My 11yo daughter suggested we skip the Gold Coast next time and just stay here (our accommodation was comfortable there too but Salt was exceptional).
The mineral pool was refreshing (it's heated but not too hot) - we enjoyed an afternoon dip.
The wildlife and peaceful position across from the river make this a delightful stay. Definitely plan to spend an afternoon here relaxing on your front deck, watching the birdlife and kangaroos.
The accommodation rates are high but having stayed here I can see why given the quality of the mattress, the doona, the kitchen etc. We hope to return in the future.

Modern, fresh, clean, well equipped riverside cabins, nice Scandi aesthetic, located 5 minutes out of town and close to where dive and fishing charters depart. We liked being out of the town and its easy to dip in and out for restaurants - but the peacefulness may not appeal to those looking for street life. Not cheap - but not overpriced either.

This is more upmarket accommodation and we were happy with our choice. While out of town we were directly on the river with gorgeous views. Wildlife surrounding us. A great walk along the river to where it meets the sea. Clean and comfortable and well equipped. Complimentary washing powder was very appreciated. We were able to book a 2 bedder at the one bedroom price as they locked off a room. Book direct for better price and service response. Highly recommend

We had a 1 night stop over here on a coastal road trip The location is very peaceful being outside the main part of town and the river views are lovely. Recommend early evening apperitvo from your deck for sure! Decor is nice and everything's well maintained. Comfy bed & sofa, great shower, kitchen has everything you need Communication with Gayle was excellent We saw a couple of kangaroos outside the complex in the evening and 1 inside the next morning which was just lovely. Loads of birds visit. 10/10 would recommend

We loved our 2 bedroom villa overlooking the water. It was a lovely spot to spend a night even when the cold wind and constant drizzle kept us from making the most of the spot. I wish I had brought my swimmers to try out the heated magnesium pool. It looked very tempting. A short stroll to the tavern next door under the brolly ensured a tasty pub meal before a good night’s sleep in the very comfy beds. My mother insists it was the best night’s sleep she has had in months. Overall a great place to stay that could be even better with a few additions which I would expect for the price - somewhere to hang the hand towel in the bathroom as well as a few extra hooks or another towel rail, bath sheets instead of the small towels supplied, shower caps (like a good hotel), a door mat so you don’t traipse dirt into the beautifully styled villa and finally an outdoor heater so the deck can be enjoyed even in winter while you take in the view.
