Detailed Reviews
We were booked on an unpowered camp site which was situated near the lagoon and had a week of rain so our campsite had gone underwater and the mozzies were rife!!!. Staff were able to move us to a dryer campsite (powered and turfed) and did not charge us any additional cost. They were friendly and helpful throughout the process. The rain didnt stop the kids having a ball in the play areas and kidsclub. The park is a family favourite and the beaches of SWR are beautiful.

This is purely set up for kids with an amazing pirate water park with heated pools (perfect temp) for all ages incl 3.5 slides. There is also a games room, fully covered jumping pillow and park. Our kids absolutely loved it all!!!
We stayed in a lagoon villa which had a nice bush outlook and great facilities incl air con and washing machine. The beds were great and bedding really clean and comfy!!! Floors a tad dusty but the rest of the villa felt clean.
The only downside was the location as we prefer to be on the waterfront or beach plus the park was very busy even on weekdays.
Overall great if you just want facilities for kids. I think we’d try a different location next time.

Hi DizzieDe, Thank you for taking the time to write a review of our resort. We are pleased you found a lot of what we offer is really enjoyable and highlighted how fun it is for kids. We understand that it's not going to suit everyone but we do try and be transparent when booking people in that we aren't giving the guests expectations that we are beachfront. We love the unique feel of our resort that we are nestled in amongst the National Park. Sounds like you enjoyed your time overall so we're happy with that. Thanks again, Nellie.

We stayed in a 3 bedroom cottage, the cottage was a bit stuffy but so spacious. The little outdoor area we had was lovely. Our entry by car was from the main road, however had private access to the park down some stairs. Pool and slides was a lot of fun for everybody however the water was really cold. Jumping pillow was great as was the little park. Kids also had a lot of fun in the games room. The cafe unfortunately was closed for most of our stay and opened late in the afternoon on the day we left.

Hi Mrs_schloff, thank you for your 5 star review! We are very happy to hear you had a lovely time whilst staying with us in the resort. It sounds like you got to enjoy most of the facilities we have here. It's unfortunate the Full Circle wasn't open more when you were here, they are a separate business to ours at the resort but we will pass on the feedback. We hope to welcome you again in the near future. Kind regards, Nellie.

I am not one for usually leaving reviews but after my experience at Big 4 Southwest Rocks I felt it was necessary, I hope my review helps other families when looking for a family holiday. I was so excited to have a week here traveling from Queensland and I have to say, what a let down! $192 a night and other than the beautiful beaches in the area I can’t praise the park at all.
1) forget packing fun toys that keep the children entertained, ezy rollers, bikes, scooters etc. 95% of the park is gravel roads. Which makes it impossible to ride around on, not to mention the dirt and dust! It literally drove us nuts. I feel bitumen roads should be a “given” in big 4’s that charge close to $200 a night. I also felt no bitumen roads out the front of your site stops your children from making friends during the trip as they miss out on the fun stuff, like drawing on the roads in chalk or riding up and down out the front of their site. Massive massive let down on its own.
2) kids club - this was a joke, it was on maybe twice our entire week stay and when it was on they charged you! When your paying through the roof that should be included.
3) Christmas time (peak time) they let down the jumping pillow at 5pm, Southwest rocks is day light until 8pm. So now in the afternoon the kids not only can’t scooter around the park due to gravel roads but the one bit of entertainment they love playing on, yep closed what feels like in the middle of the day!
4) the pool area is great for kids, I didn’t swim in it the whole time as I didn’t want an ear infection, dirty and small.
5) the amenities toilets are filthy dirty. Says they are cleaned during a certain time of the day but I never saw cleaners in there during our whole week stay. At one point there was dirty tampons and pads on the shower floor which stayed there for almost 24 hrs. During peak times those amenities need to be cleaned more often.
For a big 4, I was completely unimpressed. It didn’t feel like a big 4 and is totally over priced. We won’t be back. This is just my thoughts and review and I am simply giving this review to help other families when finding someone to stay. We have stayed at lots of parks and this is probably close to the bottom of the list.

Hello Shelbyleigh82, We're so happy to hear the kids loved the jumping pillow and shipwreck Island! In saying this, we're really sorry to read your review of our Resort. It's not a usual response we have and it concerns us to hear your experience. The majority of our reviews are extremely positive & our exit surveys consistently score 4.8/5 for cleanliness for our villas & the Resort. If you notice anything that needs cleaning, you can notify staff and it will be cleaned straight away. Due to the extreme drought at the moment the dust is driving us all crazy, dust is anywhere you go. With water restrictions at Level 3 our watering is limited. We do have some bitumen roads and are working towards making all the roads bitumen in the near future. This is a great one to know when booking so we can place you on a site or villa that has bitumen on the site. The Kids Club program is run 5 days a week during the School Holidays. It doesn't run on Public holidays so sometimes in the Christmas week it can be limited whilst families are busy enjoying Christmas. Thanks for your feedback. Kind Regards, Nellie

Overrated. Me, my hubby and 2 daughters are frequent travelers in our caravan and have stayed at numerous big 4's. We did our research and after viewing the website for Big 4 South West Rocks we were very impressed, 2 days into our stay we were extremely disappointed. We were expecting alot being that we paid around $190 p/n powered site (the most expensive park we have stayed in and far from the best), the site itself had no slabs and being peak time very close to our neighbors. The amenities were appalling and cleaning, although stated twice per day, did not appear that way, they were disgusting! Showering couldn't be avoided because the kids were filthy from the gravel road we were on, the website showed bitumen but this is only in a small part of the park the majority being gravel, again very disappointing. One of the highlights for us camping is the kids getting out on their bikes, playing out the front of our van and chalking up the bitumen (our 5 year old found it hard to ride and once digging into the gravel and falling, wasnt keen to ride again). The pool area is good for toddlers and kids but supervising is hard due to the layout and poor design. It is not welcoming for adults and the pool itself was very dirty and small. There was a kids club but we were not provided info on this at check in, the kids were upset when I would not allow them to join a couple of the activities because of the additional charge. Eg. Rock painting was $8pp. I would expect this to be included given the p/n cost!! We have never paid for kids club. What we liked; location, the kids liked the kangaroos, games room, the pirate ship and slides and jumping pillow. We would revisit South West Rocks but would stay elsewhere.

Hi TravellingQLDer, It's great that your family enjoyed the location, the kangaroos, games room, Shipwreck Island and jumping pillow. We're really sorry to hear you thought the Resort was overrated. We have sites located next to the bitumen, if we know that's a particular requirement of yours we will accommodate your needs. The amenities are cleaned 2 times a day with a touch up around lunch. If there is anything that is dirty please let us know at Reception so we can clean it up promptly. The kids club activities that have charges are to cover costs of materials, we apologise this didn't suit you and your family. Thanks for your feedback, Nellie

Camp ground is not near the beach or town and is very isolated.
Cabins were overpriced for what they were.
We had constant complaints from campers that were camped right next to the cabins about the noise we were making, as early as 6.30pm despite rules that clearly said no noise after 10pm. We received complaints before 10pm every night.
If you have young kids and want to go to bed at 8pm this campground could be for you.
If you have older kids, or want to socialise, do not go here.

Hi Jasbrown11, thanks for taking the time to write us a review. We feel we are transparent with our guests about our location that we are tucked away and surrounded by National Park. That is a big drawcard of the Resort. We also want to be respectful to all guests staying in the Resort so we need to address noise issues when they occur. We want absolutely everyone staying here to have a wonderful experience and to be considerate of each other. If you need to take this up further, please don't hesitate to contact me directly southwestrocks.marketing@nrmaparksandresorts.com.au Thanks again, Nellie.

My wife and I stayed here in our caravan for 6 nights and enjoyed it. Facilities are good. There is heaps to do for families with young children. The park was full of family groups so was very noisy most of the time.
If you are part of the older generation, you may wish to stay at another park in SWR.
This park is 2 or 3 kms out of the town centre, so a car, or bike, is necessary to get around.
Something that we found unusual was the fact that you had to go out the locked gate to get to reception or the cafe.
Definitely recommend for families. Lots to do there.

Hi Richo12, thank you for your review. Your information is very helpful for other people staying in the resort. We hope we communicate that we are a resort that is nestled in the National Park which is out of town. We absolutely love our location because we are a stones throw away from so many activities to do in the surrounds of our location as well as having all the facilities within the resort. We have reception outside of the resort entry gates to make it friendly for public enquiries as well as being the first point of contact when you arrive. It is the same for the Cafe/Restaurant, it is also open to the public and not exclusive for the resort guests. Thank you again for taking the time to write a review and we hope to welcome you another time. Kind regards, Nellie.

We stayed at this park and we found that Karl was really the only friendly staff member we met. We were at the park for 7 days.
We weren’t in the best location at the park - right near the amenity block and the rubbish. It was noisey. But it wasn’t the other people staying in the park. The noise was more related to the staff calling out to each other, squashing down the rubbish, maintenance, cars, etc.
The staff drag the rubbish bins behind their carts. It makes a hell of a noise. We seemed to never have any peace and quiet.
For those who are trying to have a holiday, it is quite disappointing.
It’s a great place for kids. Not so great for couples wanting peace and quiet.

This park is great for everyone (including my pooch)
I stayed on a powered campsite
Location is perfect, short walk to Trial Bay.
I initially booked for 5 days but extended it for an extra 5! Couldn’t bring myself to leave. The staff were super accommodating.
If you’re after a quieter time and travelling sans children, book a stay during the week, or at the end of the park away from the kids activity hub and bouncy pillow.
The weekends get really busy with a lot of kiddies - the park caters for kids so it’s a wonderland for them.
Plenty of kangaroos around (make sure your rubbish is appropriately stored or they go through it)
The ammenities are amazing! 5 star rating for the showers alone!!
Food trucks come through camp offering fresh oysters, prawns and beef. Difficult to resist!
I’ve only been home one day and I’ve already booked my next trip
Highly recommended

HI Kristy, Shipwreck Island is open to all ages from 0 - 80!
Open all year round..apart from a couple of weeks of maintenance in winter. Solar heated - the kids love it no matter what the temperature outside is! Any other questions, please dont hesitate to get in touch - 02 6566 6142
Hi J0des444, you guys will love the Sunshine Tents - all the fun of camping but without the hassle! We hadnt had many mozzies as it had been so dry..we did get a bit of rain a few weeks ago so that may mean that, along with the rest of the mid north coast of Australia (;-)), there may be a few! The tents have flyscreens and some citronella based sprays will help!
Thank you for your lovely comments Russel & Allan!
Hi Luke
Thanks for your question. There is great fishing in South West Rocks - off the beach, boat or breakwall. We do back on to a Saltwater Lagoon where some people fish out of a canoe but Im not sure how successful they are!!
There are so many things to do with Kids in the park that they will be fully entertained so your wife / partner may be happy enough for you to sneak off!! It is a 10 minute walk through to the beach or a 2 minute drive. Let me know if you need any further information! Thanks Lucy 02 6566 6142
