Myself and my Mum stayed at St. Marks for 2 weeks earlier this year. It's a really stunning property - the whole place is picture perfect and spotlessly clean and the gorgeous courtyard at the rear of the property is a huge bonus. It's located on a lovely quiet residential street so you're not kept awake at night with noisy nightlife etc. The staff are lovely also. The only downside is the fact that they don't serve food and there is a lack of cooking facilities apart from a toaster and microwave. For this reason only, I wouldn't recommend it for a stay of a week or more as it isn't ideal to get back after a days sightseeing and having to go back into the centre of Randwick to have a meal. That was the only issue for me. Apart from that, everything else was great.

I arrived at 9pm after grim 13 hour train journey from Melbourne. No receptionist, no key, no sign of life and no phone signal. My heart sank and after 20 minutes a woman appeared and pointed to a key in an envelope in a box as if to say 'there stupid' and disappeared. The room stank of sweat and after a trying day the last thing I wanted to do was sniff around. This is travelling. You expect these highs and lows but not too many lows in a row! I tracked it down to the cover and pillow and stowed it in the wardrobe. It reduced the smell somewhat or I gradually became acclimatised to it and the next day I requested the bed linen be changed and eventually it was. This rooming house, with an outside sitting/smoking area has not the facilities of a hotel. It is in a residential leafy suburb of interesting colonial architecture, with birdsong. I bought a good pizza at a flyblown shopping area about 15 minutes walk and saw some exotic birds of the feathered variety on the street on the way. When I returned with the pizza some ants arrived in the room to share it with me but thankfully.showed no interest in getting into bed. I was prepared to pretend I was camping. From reading some other reviews my experience is not usual. I think there is a lack of action at St.Marks Lodge. It is an expensive taxi ride from the station but there is a bus from the end of the road to the airport.

Likes: Pricing, friendly staff, homely feel, sash windows and old features, street parking, quiet location but 10 mins drive from CBD and 5 mins from Coogee.
Dislikes: mattresses too spongey, no air con makes this hard to sleep in summer.
I use this in preference to city based hotels cos much easier to get to, good locale, free street parking, half the price. Don't go if you crave 4 to 5 star living though.

Tucked away in a neighborhood. This hotel gives a pleasant experience of what it is like to live near Sydney Australia. We had rented a car for the second half of our visit , so we needed parking. We were usually able to find parking in the neighborhood . The place is beautiful. We arrived late from the airport and there was a place to can to get our keys from a lockbox. All in all it was a comfortable experience.

This Superior Queen room was advertised as luxury with views over Randwick or the courtyard. My view was the shared laundry and a shed, and the room didn’t look like the picture in the ad that had a view and natural light. But my room was indeed light filled by a blazing fluoro light in the laundry shed that kept me awake most of the night and a humming sound that also continued through the night. That experience cost over $300. The lodge has had a reno since I stayed there last. It has fresh paint and attractive decor now. But I felt ripped off.

The hotel has been recently renovated and has come up a treat. Although the room was small it has everything I needed, a very comfortable bed, ensuite, fridge,fan,air-conditioner and TV. There is easy access to kitchenette area with microwave , toaster etc. The courtyard is an inviting area to sit and relax. Easy walk to food places and the Hospital. Staff are friendly and helpful. Free Wifi was first rate and street parking was easy and close.

We were very disappointed with the service here or lack of it. There was a huge gap of 40ml under our door. I didn't mind that there was a huge spider on the air con vent when we arrived, I'd expect that in Oz.This apartment was advertised as having housekeeping every second day. When it hadn't been done on the third day and we queried it, we were informed by staff that they were "sorry but the staff were busy and probably forgot to do it " There was a disgusting smell coming from the floor drain in the bathroom and the floor was constantly damp. The property itself was beautiful and the location was very good.

My husband had an 8.30am appointment at Prince of Wales hospital so we stayed the night before at St Mark's. A beautiful old sandstone mansion (1899), tastefully refurbished. We stayed in the standard room which was very close to the front entrance so a little noisy at night, also very very small. However it was for 1 night only and it was beautifully clean and comfortable. TV, fan air con, easy walk to 'The Dog' hotel, free street parking. Nice walk around the streets, lots of similar old mansions and beautiful old trees. And 5/10 minutes to the hospital. Would recommend it but get a bigger room if staying longer.
