The room the shoebox room was a small room but idea for me with a double bed and tv and own bathroom next the room. Also air conditioning. A swimming pool was clean and warm with a big garden and as dusk came bay flew over the house. Every morning there is free cereal and toast and hot drink. The host and cleaners very welcoming and a good old chat. Idea base to get the bus to surrounding areas. I went to nimbin, ballina, Bryon bay, Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast. All by bus or train. Only fault is Lismore town still recovering from the feb 22 floods shame as Lismore was nice 20 years ago.

We (& our dog) needed an overnight stay due to car's mechanical problems. We were lucky enough to find Melville House and wished we could have stayed longer to enjoy the 'old-world' atmosphere & facilities. Everything was very clean and comfortable. On the basis of value-for-money, cleanliness and comfort, it easily deserves a 5-Star rating . The reasons I gave 4 stars (rather than 5) were that after all, it is not a luxury venue, shops/cafes are not within walking distance and parking was a little difficult. Also, the 3-Stars I gave for 'Service' was not because there was any problem with the service; it's just that we couldn't really form an opinion: after checking in we had no need of any service & departed early the next morning.

This is a lovely old grand home, albeit in need of renovating, all that said it is a very pleasant stay. Rooms are large and clean with air conditioning, tv & wifi. B/f is available, which is good. They also have a pool.

The first time we pulled into the driveway we smiled! A classic old home oozing with history and character and when we pressed the bell Helen appeared to greet us with a big smile. We had originally booked a medium room as the others were taken. Helen told us that she had a cancellation and proceeded to offer us the a superior room at the same rate. The room was beautiful and we wanted for nothing, along with the gardens and the huge pool, an oasis! We have just recently stayed at Melville House again and once again we were overwhelmed with the hospitality, especially the grand breakfast Helen cooked up for us. Helen is the hostess with the mostest! even down to ironing the cloth serviettes. If you are going to stay in Lismore you stay at Melville House, it's the best! Thanks Helen

Helen, our host, was very accommodating upgrading our booking, explaining the history and features of her very interesting property. Very comfortable bedding in air-conditioned bedroom, enormous bathroom with marble bathtub and large shower recess, supplied with quality towels, and bath robes. A cooked breakfast was included at no extra charge. Very large play area at rear alongside a great swimming pool. Have no trouble recommending this property which is situated very close to a shopping center, take away's, and convenience stores. From a very satisfied senior couple who will most likely return again in the near future.

We loved staying at the Melville House. We only really needed a bed to sleep and own amenities and it's exactly what we got. Helen was polite and a great host. It's nice and close to Lismore as well and only 5 mins from the main shopping centre. We also had a spot for our car and a welcomed aircon for the hot Lismore summer. All in all a great stay!

Our room where spacious with personal details, a marble bathroom and classic furniture. We where very varmly welcomed dispite our late arrival. Breakfast is delicious with fresh fruit, cereals and egg dish cooked to order - all you need, We will return, when we visit Lismore next time.

Old world charm 1930-1950. New renovations have opened up the morning dining area + to bright sunlight and the myriad of paintings alive. On cold nights sink into the club lounge by the fire and pick a book. Or dinner in the period dining room and play cards. The bedrooms are period and some have marble bathrooms. There is interest everywhere u look. The cut glass mirrors and cut glass internal doors are amazing. Out back is a large lawn ending in a big pool. Helen is the host a very nice and interesting person who made our stay very comfortable.
