The hotel interior mostly dates from the 1930s and 1980s and is undergoing renovations.
Our room was shabby and showing its age.
However, it was clinically clean, warm, firm mattress and crisp sheets and duvet.
The shower was old but plenty of hot water and sufficient pressure, towels large, fluffy and very clean.
The hotel is very near the road and railway station so nighttime traffic is unavoidable but it didn’t disturb us.
All of the staff were friendly, breakfast ample and the room fridge had a carton of milk provided.
For the price we paid we were very satisfied.
Thank you

Although the hotel doesn't look that much from the street it is full of historic charm inside. Thoughtfully and nicely restored this gem in the Blue Mountains town of Katoomba, NSW was a delightful surprise. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The single room, although tiny, was immaculate. The newly remodeled bathroom was modern with a large walk-in shower.
The buffet style breakfast available at an extra charge was well stocked and quite adequate to set you up for day's exploring.
Well situated in the heart of town and a 3 minute walk from the train station, the Metropole is an excellent choice.

We have settled on the Metropole as the best hotel for us on our frequent visits to Katoomba. Their tariffs are very reasonable. It is very conveniently located close to the railway station and the top of Katoomba street, with excellent cafes, bars and restaurants within easy walking distance. It has an old world charm dating from the 1920s with cosy armchairs and warm fires in the lounge. The rooms are well appointed, with effective air conditioning/heating and the beds are warm and soft with ample pillows. The showers in the en suites quickly provide ample warm water. The staff are very friendly and helpful, with advice about attractions. Highly recommended.

The atmosphere was just what we were looking for in a short winter escape. My 13 Yr old daughter and I loved our stay at The Metropole in Katoomba. The atmosphere of the multiple reading nooks, sunrooms, library and loungeroom was lovely - we enjoyed a game of Scrabble provided during the evening and sat to read the next morning in the sunroom. The location was perfect to enjoy the Katoomba shopping area, with many options for restaurants straight out the front door. Parking was also easy access out the back. Also close to Explorer bus Centre and Katoomba Station, but no issues with road noise.

The establishment is very charming. The timber panelling and stained glass original windows were a real highlight for us. We also liked the cosy sitting area on the upper floor with working fireplace. We found the room and en-suite to be clean and well presented. If you prefer a more modern aesthetic, this is not the place for you. After hours check in was easy with a lockbox system that was communicated well. Breakfast was good value with your choice of breakfast favourites cooked to order.
We would certainly consider staying here again next time we’re visiting Katoomba.

Our overall experience was wonderful. We were greeted by Jack and he was the nicest and kindest person we have met on our entire trip - he definitely helped make our stay very enjoyable! Shout out to Carol for her kindness on our way out as well! The location was right in the middle of everything, easy walking access to the train station, bus stops, restaurants, bars, and stores. The room had all your basic needs and was clean; especially for the cost. Highly recommend if you are traveling to the Blue Mountains and are on a budget. We would stay here again!

If you like your hotel room to have all the mod cons, this is not for you. Situated in the fabulously art deco town of Katoomba, the Metropole is, however, a wonderful reminder of the days when style equalled substance. Situated just a two minute walk from the railway station, it's antique furniture, stained glass windows offer an olde world charm and among its many attributes are a games room (with snooker table), a library with comfortable sofas and a dining room that, though it has undoubtedly seen better days, offers travellers a fine breakfast from a wondefully hard-working breakfast cook. Elsewhere, receptionist Jack will do anything he can to help you and certainly made our stay a memorable one.

This 1930's building is one we keep on coming back to when visiting the mountains. It's centrally located, has lovely & spacious shared sitting areas.. and has great character and no doubt a colourful history! It's great value for money and great base from which you can explore surrounding towns and the places of interest. We love it and will be booking again next time we are up.

Ate breakfast here twice as the kitchen at our motel was out of order. Buffet breakfast was lovely! Great variety and choice, tasty hot options and friendly staff who even offered to cook fresh food when some options were finished. Perfectly cooked bacon!
Warm, quaint and cosy dining room. Highly recommend.

We arrived at 3.30 and there was no parking available, the guesthouse has approx 8 parking spaces up a steep incline to the rear of the hotel which were all taken when we arrived leaving us to circle around and try to find some street parking. Most street parking is payable until 6pm and free after that.

The lift was very slow and was not working on the morning of our departure so we had to carry all our luggage down the metal stairs in the middle of the building.

The room was comfortable with a window which overlooked in the internal courtyard. The room also had heating, a good sized fridge and a microwave. The bathroom has a loose sliding door which offered little privacy but was spacious and had a decent sized shower.

Overall, Cosy hotel in a close proximity to the train station and the park and just a short walk to a selection of shops / cafes and restaurant around the corner.

Best way to get from Sydney airport to the hotel? Uber or Taxi or hotel transport?
Answer from Big_Jim_Cebu

Our family occupied 4 rooms while I was there. 1 Double and 3 queen rooms. All of our rooms had showers only. They have a restaurant which is open for breakfast every day and dinner on some nights. They have multiple spaces with lounge chairs with side tables where you can sit and read while you sip on your drink. They also have a library room where you can get the books to read. There is also a games room. Unless your are seeking a quiet and relaxing stay, this accommodation is not for you.
