From the moment we booked our room over the phone, through to checking in at reception, receiving recommendations on where to eat, staying in one of the mountain view rooms and checking out after a delicious continental breakfast, we have nothing but praise for the staff employed at this hotel and the amenities onsite.

After catching the train up to Katoomba station, we rode our bikes to the hotel which is only 350 metres away and left them in an undercover protected area.

The room was spacious and heritage in style. Therefore, we weren't expecting anything fancy or luxurious. We knew what we paid for and received what we were promised and expected. The mattress was comfortable and bath towels were nice and large. Great sweeping views of the mountains from the Mountain View Rooms atop a hill.

Ample space within the older style hotel with a library, waiting rooms, lounge area, billiards room and bar. The outdoor pool was very clean and ideal to swim laps in.

The dining room with great views of the mountains served a generous continental breakfast with espresso coffee.

15 minute walk to the main street where there is plenty of restaurants and bars.

I would certainly come back again as I found it to offer value for money with excellent friendly & local customer service.

The hotel is an antique house, super classic style and well located close to Katoomba City centre so very handy for those arriving by train. Room has a good size and despite very tired and dated, it’s comfortable. The staff is lovely from both front desk and restaurant and the “mountain view room” really had a super nice view.

A few things spoiled my stay though. Listing the 2 main ones:
1) Breakfast: is average and what is expected from a continental breakfast. Could have a different toast option (eg: wholemeal bread) or a no sugar yogurt option, but that was fine. But I have never seen a hotel that starts serving breakfast at 8:30am. All hotels I have ever stayed (big, small, 2, 3, 4, 5 stars) start serving it at 7 am or even earlier.
2) Room cleaning: suuuuper dirty windows! Many dead bugs - including spiders - and many spider webs hanging on them both outside and inside the room too! (see pics) I decided not to pay much attention to the rest of the room cleaning and just let the blinds closed... King of disgusting...

For a $350/night, I’d expect a better service, a less dated room but, specially, a clean room. The reception area is full of stickers on the floor for social distancing, hand sanitizer, etc but the same care wasn’t applied in the room.

Hi Bruna, thank you for leaving us a review. We are very proud of our heritage style that is unique and charming, but also something that is a rare find on the Australian hotel market. Our location is also something that guests rave about - it is, as you say, very close to the centre of town so it’s perfect for those guests looking to walk or stay close but they are still able to relax and unwind away from busy streets. We appreciate you acknowledging the efforts of our team - they always go above and beyond to make each guest feel welcomed and like a member of the family. The view from the Mountain View rooms and most common areas are quite spectacular, aren’t they? We are sorry to see you had a few concerns throughout your stay. We do encourage all guests to report anything at all a miss in the hotel while they stay with us so that it can be addressed immediately. This is especially true during COVID as our measures, like you’ve noted, are extensive to ensure guest and staff safety. We expect nothing but perfectly cleaned rooms from our housekeeping team and as we have a number of trainees at the moment, we will certainly pass on your feedback for their improvement and apologise for the inconvenience. As for the breakfast, we do start a little late to allow for guests to sleep in and enjoy their rooms but understand it doesn’t suit everyone. Should guests want an early breakfast, we are more than happy to provide a continental breakfast to their room the night before for their convenience. There are many local cafes that we’re more than happy to recommend should you wish to try something a little different on your next visit.

The combination of hilltop location and Edwardian origins of this hotel will create some challenges for those with mobility difficulties. Our room (39) was on the ground floor but despite this, to get to it from reception required the navigation of multiple sets of stairs, with some up to 12 steps , so for anyone with such problems an alternative hotel may be a sensible option. Given the age, access to upper floors is by staircases only.

Moving onto the positives, the property is well located for the Jameson Valley attractions. Our room was generously proportioned with a comfortable king sized bed. However, as the hotel points out in the literature handed to you on arrival, it’s rooms are not of a uniform size given the age of the property so we couldn’t speak for others. The room had a tv, drink making facilities. Heating is via a combine heating/air conditioning unit, for which no instruction was given, and no leaflet available in the room. Whilst Australians will no doubt be familiar with these systems, international visitors, such as us, will be less so.

Now to the negative aspects. The property is in need of some general TLC , appearing tired In many places. Although our bedroom was fine, the bathroom had a cold, tiled floor, no heating and perhaps as a result of a drain in the floor and some vents in the bath side, some cold draughts. There are numerous comments regarding eco standards, and yet toiletries are in small plastic bottles which will no doubt increase plastic waste compared to other hotel solutions we have seen and result in un-finished bottles being thrown away on room changes. Furthermore, the combination of small bottles and a fairly tough plastic meant that squeezing the content out could be difficult for those guests with weaker hands.

Restaurant pricing is, frankly ridiculous, at $89 per person for a 3 course evening meal and almost $40 for breakfast, so on both counts, we chose to eat out & support some small local businesses. We can highly recommend The Basil Nut restaurant for Thai/Asian, the Station bar for Pizzas and the Little Paris Cafe for breakfasts.

At almost $500 for two nights on a room only basis, does this property offer value for money? Sadly no, not in our view.

Dear Mike, Thank you for recently choosing to stay with us as well as for taking the time to share your most valuable feedback. Mike, I am delighted to read that you enjoyed our stunning location overlooking the Jameson Valley. I also thank you for your most valuable feedback in relation to our bathroom amenities as well as the pricing of our Food and Beverage options. We personally believe $89.00 is very good value for money for a 3 course meal in our dining room and $39.00 for our ala carte breakfast. Our valued guests also have the option of pre booking a bed and breakfast package rate as part of their stay and this also further reduces the breakfast cost to only $30.00 per guest. As part of our dining experience we do also offer complimentary live entertainment 4 times per week. Mike, thank you again for your most valuable feedback and I do hope you enjoyed your travels throughout Australia. Kind Regards,

We wanted to have a relaxing holidays around Katoomba and thought it would be a special one when we booked. Considered its proximity to the junction and the description of the hotel on the booking website, we did not mind paying a bit more.

However we regretted the moment we arrived at the hotel. Indications/signs of the location of the reception were not clear so it took us some time just to find the reception. Then on check-in the receptionists asked for an ID proof of the guest who booked the room and made it clear they would make a copy and keep it for record. That's fine so I gave mine. Then they asked for a credit card guarantee for pre-authorisation (in case they needed to charge for anything extra). I gave my husband's (which we used to pay for the room and was charged before we arrived). They insisted my husband had to show his ID and for them to make a copy as well, since his credit card was given. I questioned why, as I had not heard/experienced that in a country like Australia one would have to show and leave an ID proof when one uses a credit card. They said it was the hotel's requirement (while in fact they had already charged to the same credit card before our arrival without even asking for our permission). I then asked to see their hotel's written policy where it says signing a credit card would need an ID proof/copy. The manager then appeared and asked us to change the booking to my husband's name then we did not have to show/leave two ID's and we accepted. The question still remains though, why does one need to leave an ID proof when using a credit card in Australia? Well, there are certainly other countries in the world that one would need to show/leave an ID proof for anything one does, but I would not expect Australia is among one of those countries.

As for the services and facilities of the room, it wasn't impressive either. Room was clean. Size of room as described. Cheap appliances were used. Bathroom door could not be locked but they did not think it was an issue but tried to fix it (to no avail) on our request.

We booked for two nights, and requested for the room to be made after the first night. They did make the bed and tidied the towels, but other than that, no amenities were refilled - not any toiletries, not any coffee/tea, nor the complimentary bottled water. Rubbish bins were not emptied either. We had to ask for more toiletries but for the other things we just couldn't bother as we did not want to be seen as trouble makers.

Overall, not an enjoyable stay and we will certainly not return next time we are in Katoomba.

This hotel seems unable to provide the same level of service during the week as other hotels in the area can. We stayed on a Tuesday and Wednesday night. No room service available after 5pm. We were advised that they didn't want staff staying after 5pm because of Covid. Other hotels were able o offer 24 hour room service so why not this hotel? The coffee machine at breakfast seemed only capable of providing lukewarm coffee. The place was like a ghost town with only one staff member on that we could see. The same person manned reception and was also the waiter. The bar was not open at all. Next time we will stay at the Carrington which is capable of providing 24 hour service, had plenty of staff and were able to provide dinners during the week.

Hi Patricia, thank you for leaving us a review. We are a proud mid-week escape for our guests but we are sorry that you don’t feel that our hotel could provide you with desired services during your stay. It is true that our hotel’s restaurant has specific trading days, but we do advertise this online so guests can be well informed before their stay. In fact, very few restaurants in the Blue Mountains operate 7 days a week and to the best of our knowledge, the dining room in The Carrington is only open 4 days a week and doesn’t provide 24-hour room service. While our restaurant doesn’t open every day, we are more than happy to recommend some local restaurants for guests to enjoy during their stay. We are also not sure where the miscommunication has come from but our room service doesn’t finish at 5pm because we want to get our staff home at that time. The room service wasn’t operating during your stay because the restaurant itself was closed. On the days when the restaurant is open, we run room service until 9pm which we find suits the vast majority of guests. We are a little puzzled by your coffee machine comment as we’ve had nothing but positive reviews of it though we do understand that coffee is a personal preference and are happy to recommend plenty of cafes in the local area.

You need to be a mountain goat to get up and down all the stairs.
It rained the first night and we were kept awake by the noise of water in the gutters from 3 AM. Not happy.
No views from the room and at the price they charge there should be or you should be told that you dont get any view apart from the into someone else's room.
The breakfast was a joke. 2 pieces of toast for 2 people and we had to ask for 2 each, Supposed to get fruit, pastries and youhurt. Again had to ask for it again after pre ordering and no fruit, pastries for 1 only. Gave up went out for breakfast the next day.
It was one of the most expensive stays I have ever had at $357 a night. I am embarrassed at how much we paid and poor it all was.

Hi 525M, thank you for leaving us a review. We are sorry to see you did not like your stay with us overall. Our building is a normal two-storey structure with a standard staircase so we’re unsure why you feel that we have an unreasonable amount of stairs. We wish we could control the weather for guests but given the climate of the Blue Mountains, it is out of our control. In fact, when it does rain, many guests find it soothing to listen to the rain on our insulated corrugated roof as they fall asleep. Whilst everyone wants our famous view over Jamison Valley from their room, we are very specific about which rooms provide it and include “Mountain View” in the room name. We encourage you to try booking one of those rooms if you’re after a view over the valley. We are sorry to see that breakfast did not meet your expectations however, since our current procedure is to have guests fill out a pre-order form, we encourage you to make sure you’ve filled it out correctly for the exact number of guests who will be requiring breakfast so we can have the correct amount ready for your chosen time. As for the value of your stay, our rates are competitive and reflect market demand for our independently rated 4.5 star accommodation. Like the rest of the accommodation industry, our tariffs are also based on dynamic pricing, meaning that last minute bookings will affect the price you pay. In the future, we encourage you to try booking in advance but also consider mid-week rates as they are lower.

We have just spent 4 nights at Hotel Mountain Heritage and it was fantastic. The room was lovely and the views were spectacular. We had a mountain view room. The staff were absolutely fantastic, nothing was too much trouble. We went for the Christmas in July celebration and it was lovely. The food was soooo good. The breakfast was really good and very filling. The hotel is old but very well maintained and the staff had everything worked out for social distancing for Covid 19 and we felt very safe and well cared for. Would highly recommend a stay there if you are heading to The Blue Mountains.

Hi Neckadarcy, thank you for leaving us such a lovely review. We are very proud of our historic “Grand Old Lady” and her impressive views over the Jamison Valley. When you combine that with our fantastic customer service and convenient location so close to Katoomba, it’s what keeps guests coming back to us. Even though our Christmas in July celebrations had to be a little different this year, we are very happy to see you still had a great and memorable stay. We also appreciate you acknowledging our CovidSafe procedures as staff and guest safety is our top priority. We look forward to welcoming you back to Mountain Heritage on your next visit to the Blue Mountains.

This hotel was beautiful! We booked last minute on a weekend that was already heavily booked throughout the mountains. Despite this, the staff were able to accommodate us in a twin room overlooking the valley. Nothing was too much trouble. The cocktails were expertly made and well priced, which we thoroughly enjoyed whilst sitting in the lounge, listening to the live piano before heading into dinner. The little canapes were a lovely surprise too. We ate dinner in the restaurant, both nights, enjoyed breakfast and room service and can vouch for the five star standard. Cannot recommend highly enough.

We were very dissapointed to learn that our 'Mountain View Room' was actually a side mountain view and was told by the receptionist attendant that 'it's a lottery when booking this type of room'. We feel rather cheated that we paid an additional $87 for a Mountain view and got a view of the town with a 'side view of the mountain' which was also obstructed fire exit stairs and you had to strain you neck while standing in thr curtains to see it...
Perhaps the advertisement should state that some mountain view rooms are in fact only side views. The bed was rather comfortable, thankfully!

Hi Janna, thank you for leaving us this review on several other booking platforms. As we explained there as well, we are sorry the view wasn’t exactly what you were expecting but as the room did still have a mountain view, it cannot be labelled as false advertising. The room which you stayed in is actually 50% larger than our other Mountain View rooms and does in fact have two large windows - one which is minutely obstructed by the fire escape stairs and the other which is completely unobstructed. In addition to mountain view, you also had a gorgeous view towards Leura, which meant a view of city lights at night time. You could have also enjoyed the views on the balcony that was outside your room, accessible by the hallway and a hidden gem for guests in this room to enjoy. Our reception team did not describe it as a “lottery” when rooms are being assigned. In fact, rooms are assigned automatically based on availability and party size. If you had expressed your displeasure with our team onsite during your stay, they would have done what they could to address your concerns. Whilst our Mountain View rooms do come with an additional cost, we believe that you had excellent value for money given what we explained above and that we are an accredited 4.5 star rating hotel with a great location and excellent customer service.

We booked a weekend away to unplug from work. We left more tired than we came. Unfortunately the hotel has mistaken old world charm with delapidated. The hotel common areas were beautiful but the $650 pernight room we stayed in was at best & only due to location $300pn(at best) the bed was like concrete the air can whirred and clucked all night. The furniture was chipped & just old, Paint chipping off window sills, ripped flyscreens, the bathroom door had obviously been wet over & over as it was swollen and chipping away. It was clean. The staff were lovely I was so disappointed I booked luxury & it was polar opposite. I read the hotel stating bedding is personal... Yes absolutely is, but a medium mattress would be fair this was just old & in desperate need for revamp. But, like all reviews they will fall on deaf ears. And the hotel will be full again this week. If the room was as described I would gladly have paid the money, but the feeling of being completely ripped off is a bitter pill to swallow.

Under our new ownership we are striving to significantly enhance our guest experience. We have recently had the hotel connected to the NBN so we now offer a strong and stable complimentary wifi system for all of our guests. We have also significantly increased our bathroom amenity offering as well as installing Foxtel into all of our guest rooms. Yes there is a train that leaves central station in Sydney and stops at Wentworth falls, Leura and Katoomba in the upper mountains. Katoomba Station is just a short 5 minute stroll to the Mountain Heritage.

I believe the double reference means queen as most have here in Australian hotels. There may be Kings on enquiry. I had a very comfortable queen in a very spacious room, the size of the room typical of older hotels.
