We are a small friendly quiet guesthouse located in the beautiful World Heritage listed Blue Mountains, just 2hours from Sydney. No.14 is an original guesthouse from 1913, with modern comforts of central heating, constant hot water in our shared bathroom, and WiFi. We offer simple comfortable rooms, a shared bathroom with multiple private cubicles, large communal kitchen and plenty of room to relax insider or on the wraparound verandah & deck. Perfectly suited to quiet peace-seeking travellers who want to relax and chill out in close proximity to all that the Blue Mountains has to offer. We have no TVs, radios on purpose; but plenty of books, games, puzzles and comfortable common areas to enjoy conversation with other guests, or relax by yourself. Many of our guests say we are like "a home away from home".

We had a really nice stay at 14 Lovel Street. The house itself is beautiful and very characterful, and our room likewise. The kitchen was very clean and extremely well stocked with pots/pans etc, and plenty of fridge and cupboard space to store our groceries. The communal areas were also very clean and it was nice to be able to chat with the other guests. We would recommend to anyone travelling to the Blue Mountains and looking for excellent value accommodation

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. It's about a 10 minute walk to the town centre which was really convenient and the beds, kitchen and bathrooms were spotlessly clean. When we arrived, the owner spent a good 20 mins with us talking us through possible walks to do which was really helpful. The room itself felt really homely and private despite being in a hostel. Genuinely wish we could have stayed longer.

Thanks!!

For a solo traveller, this is a great place to stay. You have the option to be social able if you want. The little lounge areas are nice.

Pro’s

Sociable place
Well thought out
Clean
Great kitchen facilities
Comfy beds
Cosy lounges
Good info on walks

Cons

Can be noisy (walls are paper thin)
Heaters in bathroom didn’t work
Hot water ran out on me in the shower
$20 to store luggage when I have just paid for 3 nights is a bit tight
Walk into town is a bit hilly (with suitcase)

Thanks for your feedback. I appreciate constructive feedback as well as praise. To advise other potential guests on the cons and how to perhaps avoid them: I can't do much about the hills in the area, they are literally everywhere. Hot water has a gas backup to solar so should be constant, and the heaters are on timers. For some reason I haven't seen this review until too long ago for me to remember if you actually raised any issues with us. We have an all hours contact number to help guests. As for $20 being 'a bit tight'... when you are not a current inhouse guest at an accommodation, how much do you expect for free? We not only store bags and give guests use of common areas 3-4 hours before check in (from 10/11am) but also 2-3 hours after check out (until 1pm). The $20 is only is you want a full day rate up until 5pm to use common areas and/or store bags.

The property itself is nice and homey. The private queen room worked well with a comfy bed. However, I would have expected towels provided (rental for $1 extra each) and soap for the shower. The 'breakfast' was not worth much with only cereal and milk plus terrible instant coffee or tea. The location is a bit awkward if wanting to walk to the beautiful viewing sites and hikes in the area due to the awkward hilly geography in the town. Better to drive to one of the sites with parking and set out from there.

The office is only open 2 hours in the morning and 3 hours in the evening (5 to 8) so it can be difficult to get a hold of anyone with a question or problem, especially if you don't have an Aussie phone.

Thanks for your review and I'm sorry that your expectations were not met. However, I believe we are very clear about what we provide for our price, and I disagree that a hostel (note: we are NOT a hotel) is obliged to provide free towels and toiletries. We ask for a $1 charity donation for towel hire. One constructive piece of feedback is the ability to reach someone outside of reception hours. We are usually around until about lunchtime anyway, and often during the day. Although, again, you don't appear to have read the information we provide in your room, on the back of the room door, on the office door, near the information board in the main lounge areas...there is a doorbell on the office door to try. We live on site and ore often around during the day, and always overnight. There is a mobile number but, as you say, if you are travelling without a usable phone then you are at a disadvantage. Coincidentally, we have also made improvement to this potential problem - obviously since your stay - an intercom video doorbell at the office which connects to our mobile directly as well.

No.14 Lovel St was a total delight to stay in! It was immaculately clean, comfortable and very charming. We loved that it felt somewhere in between a guesthouse and a hostel, with the virtues of both. Annette was extremely accommodating and allowed me to set up for a work zoom call in an unused room one evening. The guesthouse is also very central and conveniently located, while still feeling set apart from the town centre - we very much enjoyed our walks into town past Kingsford-Smith park. Our only qualm would be the noise pollution from the incline of Lovel St, it is a fairly busy road and the sound was quite audible from our upstairs room and also from the shared ground-floor verandah. In spite of that, we'd definitely stay again and would eagerly recommend the place!

Lovely, peaceful stay. The room was cute and comfortable, the amenities completely adequate for our needs, the building is sweet and a real slice of Australian history - there was central heating and all guests were polite and respectful (there is a noice curfew 10pm to 7am, which is essential for these older kinds of buildings!) overall, we enjoyed our stay thoroughly; and were able to use the money saved staying here treating ourselves to the local cafes and restaurants! We looked forward to coming ‘home’ to 14 Lovell st each night, to absolute silence and deep sleeps!

No. 14 Lovel Street is a pleasant place to stay for a good price. It is well heated in the winter months and encourages a cooperative atmosphere among the guests with suitable common areas for a chat. Breakfast basics are supplied in their well-equipped kitchen. There are Covid Safe rules being followed making it also a very safe stay. It is not a short walk to the railway station and local busses to tourist attractions. Some good bush walks are within walking distance.

We’ve stayed 1 night in a double room with private bathroom.
We’ve been welcomed by the friendly owner of the Accomodation, giving us tips on the best tracks in the national park.
We found the room bigger then what we thought, warm and clean.
Shower was also hot and good pressure!

Definitely stay here, it's wonderful! Warm, cosy and welcoming. Easy parking, close enough to town. Absolutely beautiful house with a fantastic innkeeper - Annette is friendly and so knowledgeable about the area. Super clean, and a very comfy bed. The kitchen is well equipped and it's so nice to be able to prepare a meal and sit at the communal table. Mature guests, not a party house. Unbelievable value for money. I'll definitely stay here again.

I had a truly wonderful stay at No14 Lovel St. Everything was spotless and super cosy. It felt like a guesthouse rather than a hostel. It has a lovely old world charm to it and I loved the attention to detail and personal touches given to it by its wonderful owners. Annette communicated with me from start to finish. She was super super helpful in providing me with information regarding the walks and sites. The bath was a real treat too!! I will happily sing the praises of this delightful place and happily return to it when I’m in Katoomba again. Do yourself a favour and stay here.

If you tell them beforehand when you'll be turning up, they can meet you. I believe they can give you a key to the room if the bed is not ready, but it would be best to call them or email them first to confirm that.

I stored my bag in their reading room area in a 'cubby hole' of sorts near the couch and it was free. The place is extremely 'relaxed' when it comes to these questions as you'll see when you arrive. Enjoy your travels. It'll be a great time!
