The room seems cleaner in the pictures they post.
Staff was very attentive, the highway noise is loud, but it’s a highway motel so, no complaint on that.
This place is truely awful.
The Rooms are tired and fairly original but don’t normally mind if it’s cheap and cheerful - this is not.
Noise is big issue - trucks don’t stop all night but again I can deal with that.
What I cannot deal with is a seemingly deserted hotel that may be right on the highway but feels deserted and footsteps outside the room on and off all night.
Can’t even provide a review of the staff as they have a really hard to use self check in - maybe they are hiding 😆
Hotel was $125 per night so wasn’t expecting too much but you couldn’t even pay me to stay here again.
There was no-one around for check in. The vending style machine for the room keys was broken. I phoned a number found on the reception door and was notified that my room key was in the flower pot!
Location-
It was on the explorer bus route, however, the bus did not stop for us as it was driving past on the inside lane of the motorway and couldn't move over to get to the bus stop. We walked to/from katoomba station. The buses stop running at approx 5pm and it's a 20min trek along the motorway and down a back street. Felt like the middle of nowhere. As a single female traveller (with a toddler) I did not feel safe. The motorway traffic continued all night, but this didn't bother me so much.
Room-
Basic, but ok for an overnight visit. It didn't seem like many people stay here so the room looked like it had been cleaned about a month ago and left to collect dust. The top sheet on the bed was dusty. Carpets weren't brilliant (I kept my shoes on). Very dated, but everything worked. Shower was surprisingly powerful, despite flooding the floor due to a broken door. Tea and coffee making facilities were a godsend.
The door locked, but felt like if someone pushed hard it would cave in. Again, didn't feel safe all night.
Check out-
Receipt invoice was pushed under the door, didn't come in contact with a person. When my bank statement came through I was charged twice (the second was far more than original invoice) but this was quickly resolved and refunded through my booking company.
Conclusion-
Ok for a desperate 'need to lay my head', but you'd probably be better at the youth hostel in Central katoomba. NOT suitable for families with young children or solo female travellers. My advice- pay a little extra and stay in katoomba town or leura.
