The first impression you get from inside this hotel is of its former splendour, the Clarendon being some years past its glory days, however this hotel is more than just faded glory. This grand old lady would have seen a lot in its day. Having hosted a lot of bands and musicians in its most recent incarnation, its focus is on friendly budget style accommodation. The hotel offers comfortable (albeit not splendid or luxurious) accommodation, and for the price and location, it is a perfect foil to lesser accommodation in Katoomba, or the grandeur of the Carrington (and as always, you get what you pay for). For families or solo travellers who are staying in Katoomba, it is an excellent more budget friendly choice. A good basic and filling continental breakfast is a wonderful addition for any good budget hotel. You will find a Woolworths and BigW at the top of the hill, and the Clarendon is located perfectly for those wanting to explore Echo Point which is not too far away. You have a choice of more basic rooms with some shared facilities or rooms with en-suite facilities. Derek and the other very friendly staff are very kind and courteous and really make you feel at home. Excellent for kids (lots of things to play including the old style flicking soccer game I remember as a boy, and other activities. There is a good library for readers as well. For dining try the RSL which is a short walk away and a few other restaurants nearby. No laundry but there are other facilities nearby.

It's a great location and a great price, check-in was easy, the breakfast was basic with toast & cereal & milk & juice & tea & coffee which was enough for me. There are motel rooms with ensuites, but I went for a cheaper room with a shared bathroom which was fine. The man on reception did try to upsell me to an ensuite room for an extra $20 a night but I didn't really need it.
The room itself had everything I needed, the heater worked very well & I definitely needed that, the bed was comfortable, it had a sink & a wardrobe to store clothes with extra blankets inside, I spotted 4 powerpoints for charging phones & things, but as it was a budget room there wasn't much else in there, although there was a fridge outside which I stored some drinks in. I was on the top floor so I had to walk up 2 flights of stairs & they creaked a bit, so be mindful if you need to carry luggage or have trouble with stairs. The shared bathrooms were small but adequate, the shower was hot, and the toilets worked as they should. I was concerned about the $1776 callout fee if we set off the fire alarm, which apparently could happen by using the kettle, so I was too scared to have coffee in my room just in case I could actually set off the alarm. Sure, the place is quite old & I've seen the reviews that it is a bit rundown, but it is well maintained for what it is. It's not perfect, but it's nice enough.

All I wanted was somewhere to sleep that was clean, comfortable and warm. It was. The bed is very cosy with a nice doona and good sheets, electric blanket and good pillows. Heater in room added to things as did the tea making facilities. The checkin was easy. The public rooms are very nice to sit in and the shower had plentiful hot water. It's not flash but if you're out and about and just want a bed it's great. The continental breakfast is simple, but nicely done. Toast, cereals and fruit, tea & coffee. It's all I needed!!

The Clarendon at Katoomba was once the centre of the Blue Mountains entertainment and luxury accommodation. Unfortunately, it has seen better days. We booked for one night on a brief trip to Katoomba. The staff were very friendly and helpful, with some language difficulties, and the price was very reasonable, but we were disappointed to be directed to the motel section. It as there our disappointment began. The room was adequate, nothing like the pics on the website (I would say the pictures on the website were taken a long time ago!) Bed and basics. Unfortunately, the cleanliness left a bit to be desired. Not sure how clean the floor was. We discovered hairs in the bedside table drawer, a used tissue in the drawer and a used tissue in the bed, between the sheets, the next morning! Towels were provided but no face cloth and no hand towel. Bed was so uncomfortable we left very early the next day after little sleep. The price was cheap, but there is little evidence of maintenance or work being done at this historic property. I would suggest alternative accommodation for a stay at Katoomba.

We had a great one night stay while visiting our daughter in Katoomba. Guest House room was quite large and comfortable, The bed was so good that we had the best nights sleep for months. Break was simple but more than adequate for our needs. Very friendly hotel staff made us very welcome. Highly recommended. Ring the hotel direct for a good price.

Stayed overnight on a motorbike trip. Pretty cold when we got to Katoomba (-3 degrees C overnight) but they've got a couple of undercover spaces so the bikes didn't get frosted up. Small but clean motel right next to an excellent RSL club where the food was great.

Stayed in the Budget Double Room with Shared Bathroom for 2 nights, which is ideal for 1 - 2 pax. What you see is what you get, may be a bit light on toiletries though (soap & shampoo). Venue seems to have a lot of history in terms of live entertainment, which has been curtailed by COVID-19. Its location is its best selling point (direct bus to Echo Point, & walking distance towards Katoomba Street, where the F&B & major supermarkets are located).

Room was nothing like the ‘guesthouse’ images online. Can’t even appreciate the old world charm/glamour. Bathroom was mouldy, no face clothes, filthy old non slip mat. Walking into reception had to step over all the laundry bags, smelled like a really old pokies room, the ‘backyard’ had a decrepit pool and a small grassy area that looked like a dump for old toys. The TV cable goes out the window which prevents the window from closing. TV channels we limited and dropping in and out. Small thing but no conditioner with the shampoo. It’s close to the Main Street and that is the only positive. Don’t be fooled by the images online into thinking it’s a basic, tidy space…..you are wrong.

You have to have a sense of humour when you walk into the rooms. Don’t do breakfast , there are great cafes a short walk away. Great central spot can walk to all main site seeing areas. Katoomba is just quirky ❤️

Room smelled badly musty and mouldy. Could not stay due to respiratory problems. Offered other rooms but just as bad. wouldn't refund and management refused to discuss. Stayed elsewhere at additional cost. Would not consider fit for human habitation.
