The reception staff and housekeeping were extremely friendly and helpful. At one point the housekeeping staff came to do our room however our daughters were napping so they got us everything we needed without entering the room (and whispered at the door) which was very much appreciated.
The pool was great and well enjoyed by our family. We were also given vouchers for a drink at the local bowling club which was a nice little extra for our stay.
The curtains are quite sheer which meant our kids were up at the crack of dawn, but nothing the tv channels couldn’t fix. The wifi also didn’t work which was a bit annoying but overall a great stay for the price.
Easy check-out with a drop box and they also offer a late check-in if needed.
The room was really nice. Very clean and comfortable. All amenities including a microwave and kettle.
Easy walk for dinner too with the bowling club next door and the much bigger Club Forster about a 10 minute flat walk.
There was only one negative with the accommodation and that was the lack of a block-out blind. OK if you're a business traveller, but if you want a sleep in, the blinds offer next to zero light blocking.
My rating refers purely to the motel itself - I would add a star for helpful staff but even nice staff cannot turn a very ordinary and past its prime motel into a better one.
I am unsure of whether other travelers got better rooms or had a different expectation. But I can't echo the sentiments of others who have stayed here.
Upon arrival my check in was dealt with professionally by the staff member in attendance, albeit quite coldly rather than welcoming. I had booked a superior queen room hoping this was the best they had and paid $175 per night.
Within 5 minutes of walking into the room I had an asthma attack, so musty and mouldy was the air. Opening all windows and doors did not help. The furniture was old and past prime, the shower mouldy and the doona on the bed was an old, raw doona, not even a cover or sheet over it.
I asked at reception if there was an air purifier and the answer was 'it is a 40 year old hotel you know' which is not a solution to the problem (I have no beef with this staff member who did try to help). She offered an alternative room.
Interestingly this room had a newer bathroom (surely my deluxe room should have been this one to begin with? I deliberately avoided a 'standard room' and paid for the highest quality they had - why did I get the musty old room, one would ask?) This room had less of a musty smell but it still existed, the doona still had no cover (and is beyond prime) and the air conditioner was so old it had a weird wall sliding thermostat control and rattled all night, pumping out warm, musty air.
While clean enough it didn't seem sparkling as others have said but I guess the age of this motel plays into the feeling of cleanliness.
If you do go absolutely avoid room 33, and if the bowling club is reading this you simply cannot rent out that room, it's a complete health hazard.
We had very low expectations so I guess they were met. Perhaps had we paid standard rates under $100 we may have felt differently (probably not). I've stayed in a few Motels in my life and this one rates low on the list. The owners - the 'bowling club' need a to do a proper upgrade and deal with the rising damp urgently.
The staff on booking in were just beautiful, friendly and honestly, just amazing!
The room was clean and had nice cold air con. Bar fridge, toaster, kettle and microwave.
From the room no noise could be heard from outside, it was quiet and perfect. The beds were comfortable and pillows just the way I like them.
Amazing stay
On the upside - the best was comfortable, the main room and bathroom were spacious, as was the back balcony. The shower was amazing.
Very handy to, and run by, Forster Bowling Club.
Thank you for club vouchers, took advantage of those !!
Summing up, for retired or elderly travelers, this motel should be on your list.
