Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Access from road level up to accomodation was arduous due to works underway. Front door does not close/secure properly (found ajar one evening on return). Room was dusty, no screens on windows, fridge was hot - could not cool our food and drink. Only one usable chair in the room. Winding stair to second floor - no lift. Feel this accomodation was overpriced for what we got - only good point was close to the beach. Accomodation seemed more of a boarding house style. Small kitchen and seating area downstairs.

Filthy room and bathroom - cracked tiles and dirt evident. Photos nothing like the room we had. No staff anywhere to be seen. Noise from hall way the last straw - did not stay long. Felt really annoyed as it really ruined our stay.

The location of this hotel is excellent as it's right across the street from the beautiful Coogee Beach! However, the rooms do not look at all like they are pictured. My room was quite worn and old looking and the entire property is in need of some renovation. I'm surprised this hotel was listed in my Lonely Planet guide! There is also no staff to be found should you get there outside of the hotel office hours. I checked in and checked out without seeing a single person.

Perfectly located right on Coogee Beach and next door to a huge pub with tremendous meals. Walking distance to everything. Whilst it's an old property, the room was spacious and very clean. Can't comment on the wifi because when I travel I leave all that behind me. Would definitely stay again.

Stayed here at the end of February 2023 for 3 nights, the place is in need of some investment. It was clean enough but the room is tired. The photos online make it look like there are views however our room had frosted windows to let light in but we couldnt see out and there was no view at all. The bathroom was about the size of a small shoe box with no room to swing a cat. The bedroom it's self was big and the bed was nice and comfy. The front door was locked but didn't feel very secure and the back door kept on being wedged open by someone (we did keep on closing it again) I wouldn't stay here again however if its just the beach that you are looking for then the location is perfect. You do have to cross a road to get to the beach but that's no big deal. The stairs up to the room are quite tight and if I was old with a big bag I would have definitely struggled as there were no staff about when we checked in (we were a bit late and I'm sure staff would have helped if we had asked though)

This place is a dark, dingy, disgusting DIVE of a place. Nothing like the way it’s advertised. I got a refund and left. I wouldn’t stay here if I was paid too. Definitely avoid this place. I would give it 0 if that were an option.

Don’t be deceived by the ocean view, or anything pleasant that you see in the photos or comments. In person, it’s not what you see. The 1 star is definitely a plus on location, and it does have a nice ocean view. But, they don’t show you that you’re right in front of the road and you get all the road noise in your room and balcony, along with the street lights peering into the room at night. They do keep it clean and house keeping does a consistent job, but only if you out a sign out that requests for it. It’s terribly OVERPRICED. The main receptionist is very kind and helpful if you ask, but not that reliable. He also demanded payment before I was able to check in or see the room, which I already should have sniffed as suspicious!!! Do not recommend. Use the same amount of money to book Coogee Sand Hotel & Apartments down the road. Much more peaceful, spacious, tasteful, clean and reliable there.

Choose another place, No staff at reception, climb the narrow stairs, open the big heavy door, trip up the angled metal plate in the floor, decipher the instructions to get your room key from a locked box, struggle up the narrow old school wooden stairs into grey dim corridor. The room was poky and small. No art work, tiny bathroom. The room was grey and dark, no natural light. No remote for air-conditioning, no USB charger, no number provided for the managers, no response from my email to management. Not cheap.
