Stayed 2 nights in a double room with shared bathroom. In the room, there was hair, dust and sand all over the floor and shelves. The showers and toilets were in need of a good clean, though were in working order. The kitchen was functional and shared living areas spacious. Good location next to beach and shops.

Perfect location to enjoy the shopping and beach of Coogee and practically next door to the grocery store and we all know how important that is for budget traveling! Subsequently, the kitchen was slightly small but manageable.
This place has rooms with up to four people so you minimize your chance of getting a partier, a snorer or a pycho path (jokes). But for reals this place really grew on me. They have a single picnic bench out back but lock it up sometimes and then aren't around the office so make sure you hunt the staff down to get it unlocked for you!
Bonus, bonus, BONUS alert: there is a TV in the room! After lots of backpacking you learn to appreciate the small things (guilty!).

This place for fine to stay for one night, but I was not overly impressed with the cleanliness nor the atmosphere. The walls and floor could use a good washing, and the furniture some updating.
I think many of the people staying here are living long-term, because they seem to have gotten a little too comfortable. The bathroom is co-ed, and guys would just pee with the stall doors open. It’s uncomfortable, and I’m not interested in seeing that.
Also, you have to pay for wi-fi by the day.
Pro tip: if you do decide to stay here, there is a great Indian restaurant about one block away (towards the beach) that has delicious food, and is very affordable.

I stayed here for two weeks, I stayed in the Pod beds. The area and location is ideal however the hostel itself is not up to standard. The bathrooms where constantly filthy, rats where found in the kitchen on numerous occasions by guests. The staff where unapproachable and rude, I was sat with a group of guest from the hostel and one staff member came up to the group however continued to talk to one person and not even acknowledge the rest of the people. The pod bed itself was ok however I found that it was too hot and there was no aircon (fans did not work) the mattress was also so thin that it felt like I was sleeping on the floor. Overall I found it to be an uncomfortable stay.

Me and a friend stayed here for 1 week over the xmas period.
We booked over the telephone and they couldnt of been more helpful. The price was good considering it waschristmas week!
We shared a twin room, which was small but cosy. The communal kitchen was a good size and the guests tehre at the time were very friendly.
It about a 10min walk down to the beach, and is ideally situation for the bars, restuarants, shops and internet cafes. I would defo recommend the MelonHead Juice bar, yum!
I would defo stay here again, its clean, has washing machines at a cheap price and good hot showers!
Its not a party hostel, there is a strict noice restriction after 10pm. Most the partys are down at the beach anyway!
Its really easy to get buses into sydney city center aswell.

Located close to beautiful Coogee Beach, this place is cheap but you still can have your own room. Supermarket, pharmacy, bus stop... all you need is right next door and it is not too far away from downtown.
Staff is friendly, facilities are clean, even shower gel and shampoo are provided. Communal kitchen is equipped well, fridges are big enough so you can store your food there.

The location is perfect for beach-restaurant and services, it is really budget considering the prices of the other locations of the area. The staff is cool. The structure is quite good connected with the city (for Sydney Public Transport standards).
But... In winter the place is amazingly cold. There is no kind of radiator and the restrooms are even more colder due to their position. The Wi-Fi is really too expensive.

I stayed in the hostel during four nights. I have booked once for 2 nights. The checkout hour is 9.30am, so like each accommodation bag pack hostel i have booked a second time for 2 nights at 8am. Respect with checkout hours and staff.
After 4 nights, i left the hostel at 7.30am in the morning because of my job.
I phoned during the evening for the deposit and Elise the girl at the office just told me something to keep my money : "Sorry, you didn't inform us you will leave before the office will open, we believe that you were still in the hostel".
You imagine ? They don't check the room all the day ? No, just unbelievable. :)
If they do that you will just pay for 1 night and will stay 1 week / 1 month / whatever they will never check and say to you to leave the hostel.
So be careful with the deposit they just want to earn money the hostel is quite empty in the winter and if they find a way to keep your money they will use it.
I would advice other hostels. Just 30$.. and often people who sleep in bag pack hostels don't have a lot of money.. Obnoxious at all !

Response from Manager B, Owner at Coogee Beachside Budget Accommodation
Responded 11 Aug 2015
Thank you very much for your review. We are new owners we took over on Monday. UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT I'm glad you felt comfortable to stay here 4 days. It is a great time of year to be staying in Coogee. It is just getting warm and the beach's are not as busy as later in the year. I was training when your situation arose and it was a case study in my learning. If you packed up your room and notified you where leaving we would have stored your bags. The problem and why you were charged is that you didn't pack up your room and didn't notify us until you returned after 6pm. A call during the day would have helped. It is not the $30. We are a business and have to have guidelines to follow Pop in next time you are in Coogee and we will do a super deal! Hope you enjoy the rest of your travelling

Stayed here for 3 months until January 2015, really comfortable and all the day staff are very nice and helpful. We checked out late at night and they let us stay all day and evening at no extra charge.
Only faults would be that if you're longterm they don't change your bed linen like in other hostels I have stayed in.
The night manager is a creepy dude that has some sort of power trip going on. He is totally unreasonable if you need to make a phonecall or Skype home after 10pm you have to go out onto coogees main street where traffic makes your call pointless. But when he has pretty girls screaching at all hours of the morning on a weekday he doesn't even bother gettin out of bed.
He really lets the place down.

Thank you for your feedback. We are glad to hear we enjoyed your stay with us! We are more than happy to change/swap over your bed linen but it is up to the guest to bring the sheets up to us and then fresh ones will be handed over. We take our feedback seriously and am sorry to hear the night manager let down your experience. We will be sure to keep on top of this. Please keep in mind that it can often be a tough job as we are in a residential area which is why we have to be strict on noise. More often than not Skype calls at 3am in the backyard don't go down well with our neighbors but we also understand the importance of keeping in touch with friends and family back home. We hope you enjoyed the rest of your time in Oz!!

I have never received a booking confirmation after my first attempt, on 26.04, to book a room for 7 nights.
On 30.04.2011, the eve of my arrival to Sydney, at 11:28pm, following an email I sent at 5:26pm to cancel any POTENTIAL bookings under my name, this establishment decided to then charge me a deposit of over $66 and confirm the booking.
The following morning, I gave them a call to have the situation rectified but had nothing but rude replies.
As a hotel manager, I do not recommend this property to anyone as they do not run it honestly.

Response from Manager B, Manager at Coogee Beachside Budget Accommodation
Responded 12 Feb 2015
This is simply untrue and we believe this is an unfair review of our hostel as you have never stayed with us. You made a booking with us and it was made clear to you that to proceed with the booking you must pay a non-refundable deposit amounting to the first nights stay. You then sent a following email asking us to please charge your card for the deposit thus confirming your stay. It was only AFTER the booking was confirmed that this customer then decided to cancel the booking and demanded his money back, as he had found alternate accommodation with friends.
