Detailed Reviews
A really nice "pub meal" at a reasonable price
friendly staff and good service
There is lots of off-street carparking out the back
An older style pub, as many in Australia are, with it's own character.
Has indoor and outdoor dining areas
Didn't stay here so don't know what the rooms are like ... it was just a meal visit

Located in town at the end of the main strip of Cessnock we enjoyed a lunch experience here. We did not experience the accommodation. Lunch was delicious and fresh. The hotel had options of indoor and outdoor dining and was spacious throughout. Upon becoming a bit cool outside moved inside where there was a fireplace burning for the additional heat.
The bar service was fantastic and enjoyed a nice alcoholic Ginger Beer on tap.

Nice breakfast, reasonably priced. Staff were awesome at accommodating our requests, made the best omelette off the menu and were happy to alter their menu for our fussy eaters.
Chocolate milkshake was divine, came with whipped cream.
Nice little playground for little ones outside.

After booking a table for our family after reading not only on their Facebook page but also their website that kids eat free on Thursdays we ordered and was told it was an old add and even after stating that they need to honour it we were told no the boss wouldn't at all which is extremely poor.
So $145 later for some pub meals and that's all they were and they were ordinary at the best!
Order some drinks at the bar and was greeted by the most arrogant man who needs to learn to not mumble swear words under his breathe if the job is too hard for him it was over $30 for a few cans of soft drink, as yep you guessed it no premix.
So $175 in the drain, we got terrible "pub" meals, warm cans of soft drink and a kids eat free promise that wasn't upheld.
No wonder there was plenty of tables available! Do yourself a favour and skip this pub and go to Macca's!!

Perfect for my needs as a solo on a road trip. Friendly staff who offered to secure my bike before I even asked. Comfortable single bed in a small tidy room. Shared but individual bathrooms are spacious and clean. Included breakfast is simple and serve yourself in the kitchen. If all pubs were like this planning a trip would be easy and cheaper.

The stay here was not great. The facilities are clean but in a bad state of disrepair. The showering facilities are over a slippery bath with no non slip mat or hand rails if your a bit older stay away this is an accident waiting to happen. The bed was clean but uncomfortable. Staff were friendly.

Lunch was very good. Lamb cutlets , spring rolls and salt and pepper squid between us. The bistro specialises in Thai and I’d like to have been there for dinner tomorrow try one of the soft shell crab dishes. Good prices too. Worth a visit if you are in the area

Classic and great value Aussie pub food. It was suprizingly quiet here, so no problem getting a table foe lunch. There are indoor and outdoor eating areas with a kids playground. We had Chicken Snity and Fish and Chips. One of the best Snitys i have had for a while.

This hotel was a lucky find on a booked-out weekend for Rolling Stones at Hope Estate. Renovations are just about finished and our room was very comfortable with near new furnishings. Our room had a flat screen and air con. The accommodation has everything you would expect from a heritage hotel- high ceilings, pressed metal ceilings, beautiful old doors but was also renovated tastefully. The hotel has a restaurant with a cut above the average pub food, so even though there were options nearby, we only ate at the pub. Very easy. There was karaoke and a solid gold DJ to entertain us on the weekend. Staff are friendly and helpful. There were three bathroom/toilets close to our room. One had a large spa bath. Also close was the breakfast room which had provisions for a help-yourself continental breakfast. This room led a deck area which was not quite finished. The pub is in the centre of Cessnock and on a main street but traffic noise did not bother us. I would suggest asking for a room near the breakfast room and bathrooms as this is also furthermost away from the pub area if you are sensitive to noise.

Response from Ben T, Owner at Hotel Cessnock
Responded 21 Dec 2014
Hi 10ubris, Thanks so much for your great review of Hotel Cessnock. We're so glad you enjoyed your stay with us in the newly renovated accommodation rooms. It means a great deal to our family and the Hotel Cessnock team to have guests stay and appreciate the fantastic character of this grand old building which we continue to work hard to restore in a sympathetic manner to its former glory. Having our customers tell us that they enjoyed the whole experience of Hotel Cessnock, from the rooms to the dining experience in the bistro and our friendly, welcoming and professional staff makes all the effort worth while!! Cheers, and hope to see you again when you're next travelling through the Hunter valley.

This gorgeous hotel was walking distance from our motel. We had pre-dinner drinks then came back for dinner later that evening. The bar staff were very friendly and even remembered us when we came back. They made me a very tasty Espresso Martini. They have a lovely roaring fire in the main bar, perfect on a cold winters day or evening. we had dinner in tbe seperate meals area. They cater for large groups but we had a lovely table for three near where you order. This historic hotel is lovely and the pressed metal ceilings are gorgeous. you order and payfor your meals and the counter but they do table service and bring you your meal. The serving sizes are just the right size, not too big. Our party cleaned up their meals, no left overs and we had had sufficient. the meals were tasty and fresh, think comfort food. The lamb shank was a hit at our table.
