Detailed Reviews
Located a short walk from Cessnock town centre, this is a good value local pub. Staff were friendly. Drinks were reasonably priced. And they have several lunch specials (including chicken wrap, fish & chips, banger & mash, schnitty and veggie lasagna) at the bargain price of $12. Visiting at lunchtime mid-week it was surprisingly busy, so if you’re planning on dining it may be advisable to book.
The veggie lasagne was excellent - light, lots of veggies, and complemented with a generous side salad and chips.

Staying at the Australia hotel Cessnock , 2 nights for the Sting concert at Binbadgen estate ,
This is a great location for concerts and through river coaches you can get pickup and return for $25 .
This hotel is a classic and the atmosphere is just awesome, the bar staff here are such a credit to the owner and the restaurant food is second to none , which shows on a Friday night when seating is at a premium. I have stayed a couple of time and the food has been fantastic , I would say the bruschetta is a must and the pumpkin risotto and ceaser salad are also a 10/10 . At $90 a night and right in the huntervalley wine country this place is good value. Nice and tidy aircon rooms with shared facilities you can’t go past it for value .

We enjoyed the slow cooked duck. It was absolutely devine & far better than a pub meal.
Staff were all friendly & helpful. The hotel was clean bright & vibrant!
We thoroughly recommend this venue for a meal & drink, and assume the attached motel would be to the same standard

Very disappointed.
Booked table for 4. Table given was first 2 even though the Reserve card had 4 people written on it. (We were able to move)
1 out of 4 meals came out with entree.
Chill & maple bread had no flavour.
Garlic bread soggy.
Chips and chicken schnitzel were over cooked.
The roast pork ordered wasn’t even sliced roast pork but very fatty chops.
Not one meal out of the 2 entrees and 4 mains we ordered were fully edible.
Not a place I will go back to.

Really good food at the Australia Pub - kicked off with duck sliders then tucked into their $12 of Bangers & Mash and Chicken, Leek & Camembert pie - they were special
Then topped off with a Lemon Etonian mess.
Service was right on point - quick, efficient and a little country banter. Can recommend absolutely.

Absolutely poor. 2 ladies went with 2 teenage sons.
One boys meal (cheeseburger) was bought out instantly. He had long finished before we got ours. I chose pork roast and veges, the pork wasn’t sliced - it was large chunks of fatty pork chop off-cuts. 80% fat - 20% meat. No gravy. Potatoes werent peeled and were cold. Second picture is the fat which was left.

Pretty dreadful experience - very little vegetarian food on offer, 21.90 aus dollars for a paltry amount of food - absolutely dreadful. I had 5 or 6 small stuffed mushrooms - they’d obviously sat on the side for a while as it wasn’t hot when I received them.
My husbands pizza was 18 aus dollars whereas mine cost more yet twas tiny in comparison. Cannot understand how they could charge so much for so little food.

We went here on the advice of local. The dining room looks straight to the front doors and feels more like a wide corridor than a dedicated dining room. My wife and I both had gnocchi … the gnocchi was fried and tasted more like bland potato gems. I had chateaubriand for main which was very tender and delicious. The atmosphere is like an RSL club… family friendly, but a bit too noisy and too much coming and going to have a nice couple’s experience. Food: entree bad; main was wonderful. Atmosphere: good for families with young kids who make a lot of noise.

Don’t go as a tourist they are not interested in business. We rang in advance to see if they would be playing the AFL final on the TV (knowing we are in a rugby league town) to be told yep we can put it on a TV. Got to the pub to say sorry they couldn’t (and questioned the fact we rang in advance) - one TV had keno on it. Decided to stay for a drink anyway - then 15mins later directly in front of us changed the TV to the league final (note the league was on every other TV in the pub) when I actually challenged was given a lecture about being a league town. Completely understand that but at no point did anyone say I’m sorry you got that information and to change the TV directly in front of us was rude and terrible customer service.
Take home even though being in the foothills of the Hunter Valley and could support locals and tourists alike don’t go to this pub

We stopped into the Australia Hotel for a drink while waiting to check into our Airbnb. A 100 year old pub it has been updated but many of the original features were incorporated into the Reno giving the pub a very cool ambiance. Although we did not have a meal we certainly would not hesitate to return again in future as it was such a nice pub.
