Detailed Reviews
Booked this on line only a day before we arrive, easy check in, room had 2 beds, small kitchen and bathroom. Suited our needed and was clean and comfortable, would have been really good to have a couch rather than the 2nd bed. On site laundry was very handy. In room breakfast menu was not available ( not told that on check in), but restaurant was operating for breakfast, it was a bit expensive but did the job

This is quite an old motel but renovated to be very comfortable. On arrival Reception was very Covid conscious and very helpful with regard to where to dine etc. Our room was a nice size, immaculately clean with a microwave/kitchenette. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom clean and with all you need. I rather like having dispensers for soap/shampoo etc, saves on wastage and it works well. We slept well and in the morning the man at reception was very helpful regarding recommendations on where to stop between there and Hobart. Very happy with our brief overnight stay, A tad pricey but during school hols, I guess that is normal

I am old enough to remember when motels were new to Australia and were something of a novelty.
This motel would have been built many years ago but you wouldn’t know it— immaculately clean with a really comfortable bed and a functional kitchenette.obviously renovated and repainted not so long ago.
We spent two nights here and could not fault it with owner Bernie going out of his way to help us.
I think we paid $135 a night or thereabouts which was amazing value and our cooked breakfast of bacon eggs with toast and various spreads which cost us a further $19was great.
Don’t expect a 5 star resort if that’s what you are after but believe me the place is worth the 5 stars I am giving it in this review— Excellent value for the money involved

This is a 25+-room motel, where we spent a night on a 4-day bus tour of Western Tasmania. From the time we were greeted by the owner of the property, Bernie, we thoroughly enjoyed this place. The room was spotless ( there is a politely worded note requesting guests to use the provided paper covering before placing suitcases on the bed) , and cheerfully furnished. The bed, with an electric blanket, was snug and warm. The amenities in the bathroom (excellent shower) and for tea/coffee were much appreciated. To top it off, Bernie cooked us a lovely hot breakfast on a foggy cold morning before we resumed our tour. Decidedly, one of the 2 best hotels of the 6 hotels that we stayed at during our 7 days in Tassie.
There is a laundry room where we got our washing done in 1 hour.

We stayed at the Gold Rush as part of a whirlwind drive around Tassie on a stopover in Queenstown. Sited on the main road headed into town, we checked into the motel late afternoon. The manager was lovely, and check in was quick and smooth.
The accommodation in Queenstown is limited to a few roadside motels and rooms in pubs...and I think we scored nicely on this place. Parking is available right outside the room. The rooms are on the older side, but the rooms were spotless and well laid out. There was a queen bed and a single bed. Something clever in the room was a cover on the single bed and a note which said "if you are using this bed to place luggage, please keep on this protective cover"... Very clever idea!
The rooms have a mini kitchenette, I'm guessing the rooms are used by the local mining companies by some staff for longer stays.
The aircon was lovely ...it was a chilly Queenstown evening, and the aircon kept us from freezing our toes off! Shower was hot and a decent size. And the shower head actually above my head!
If you're in QT in Tas and need a place to rest your head, don't drive too far past this place.

+1
I stayed here for 1 night and it was perfect. I’d travelled from Strahan to do the railway journey and rather than drive all the way to Hobart I booked a night here. The beds were fine. Full kitchen facilities and it had a bath ( I love a room with a bath which often doesn’t happen ) It’s reasonably priced and certainly was comfortable for the night. A small distance from the railway ( I had a car - parking free on site )
I booked directly and the process was don’t pay until you arrive which was perfect.
I had originally booked directly in October but had to cancel due to covid and everything went to plan ( no charge ) so another reason I rebooked for my March trip.

I loved this place.
The motel is lovely, spacious and clean.
The room had a double and single bed so was very spacious, and there was a coffee table as well as breakfast bar and small kitchenette with basic appliances (microwave, kettle) and cutlery /crockery to use.
The bathroom was a good size with all toiletries provided.
I believe this is a family-run motel. I only met one of the owners Bernie, but he was friendly, very helpful at suggesting where to go to eat/sightsee/spend a couple hours. Thank you :)
Travelled with a colleague this time as part of work, but when I return to Tasmania with my family when they visit, I will be sure to stay here as I can't fault it!

The Gold Rush is a good quality motel. The beds are firm, the shower hot, the option of decaf coffee or tea, a comfortable room and adequate heating on a cold day. What made the motel special was the owner, Bernie. On arrival Bernie took the time to find out what I was interested in and pointed me in the right direction to explore Queenstown's art scene, see the spectacular scenery all around Queenstown and eat some surprisingly good Asian food. I had two other conversations with Bernie and on both occasions he was friendly and helpful. Likewise the young woman who serviced the rooms was friendly and cheerful. My trip to Queenstown far exceeded my expectations in part thanks to Bernie and in part because it is spectacular scenery.

Despite its age, this is a wonderful place to stay. We were a Trade Travel tour group.
It was extremely clean, very well appointed with fluffy towels and bathmat and a special cloth/washer for makeup removal. Comfortable beds with electric blankets and extra blankets readily available in the cupboard if you need more than a doona, or like me simply prefer blankets (from memory they were also woollen blankets not acrylic). The room had a kitchen with a microwave and fridge if you wanted to cater for yourself. My room was an accessible one and if you need that amenity (I don’t) I’d say it was good; spacious bathroom with a shower seat and lots of room for wheelchairs etc and well-placed grab rails. It might be a bit tight with a wheelchair around the beds? Generally well maintained although old.
The evening buffet meal was delicious as was breakfast. Both very well cooked with lots of vegetables and roast lamb or fish and real cream with desert not that ghastly stuff in a can. Choice of quality wines by the glass with dinner. Berenberg condiments for breakfast and lovely (toasted) rye bread. Very thoughtful hosts, eg warmed the room before arrival; really appreciated on the cold day we were there. There is a guest laundry, but I didn’t use it. I’d happily recommend staying here if you are in Queenstown even though it’s a little bit of a walk to the main town centre (mostly on flat paths).

This is a lovely motel. The room are very clean with lots of little touches, like makeup removal towels and air freshener in the bathroom. The linen is gorgeous and has a high end look. The buildings are a little aged but that is to be expected. The owner was so nice and made everyone feel welcome.
