Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

It may not look much from the outside....but it is a little treasurer. Room was a surprise.....it may have been a bit 'retro' but they were clean, tidy, well equipped and good price tag. Even though close to main road you didn't notice the noise. Staff was great as we rang late on a Sunday and they came quite quickly.

Stayed at the Mountain View Motel for an extended period of time between houses. The staff were friendly and there are lots of plusses to this place including a great undercover barbeque area and community kitchen, fire pit areas as part of the backpackers section which would be excellent for large groups, a well looked after laundry facility with washing and drying machines. I stayed in an ensuite room which was comfortable with reverse cycle air conditioning, so warm on the chilly Queenstown nights, and cool in summer. The bed was very comfortable and there was a fridge, microwave, kettle and toaster for when I didn't use the community kitchen and barbeque. Plenty of off street parking and a games room available for guests. Pet friendly, and very affordable. Best value motel in town, and great location just a quick walk from the shops and wilderness railway station. Thankyou to staff and management for their care and consideration!!

We stayed one night in Queenstown in order to ride the Wilderness Railway early the next morning. We were actually pleasantly surprised by the Mountain View Motel. Everything was spotless, the bed was comfy and the check in and out process simple.

It's a bit of a walk into town so if that would bother you, stay at one of the pubs!

Check-in involved a hurried conversation outside the locked Reception office. The lady checked my booking on her phone, then punched in a number on a keyboard on the key safe and handed me my key. I wonder how I would have gained entry to my room if she hadn't rocked up when she did.

The room appeared to be clean on the surfaces but had an overpowering stench of chemical air freshener which failed to mask a smell of stale urine. With some effort I managed to open the wooden sash windows, but this made no difference to the stench. Unable to imagine an enjoyable stay, I repacked my car and left the motel without even turning down the bed.

The prices charged by this establishment are not "budget" for the low standard presented here. However, even if the price was more reasonable, I don't recommend this motel.

Stayed 2 nights here to do the Rack & Gorge train. First thing we noticed was the bed quilt had stains on it and a threadbare tear and sheets discoloured. No smoke alarm (only the bracket) toaster's push down lever was missing knob, only one of the 2 celing globes working so half the room was dim, a five cent coin still on floor from previous guest (room not vacumed?) stains on carpet. Everything is very dated which we knew by the photos but at $85pn you still expect a certain level of cleanliness and maintenace that should be apparent when room is 'cleaned' between guests. We also were shocked when my husband posted a similar review on google and received a response saying we disrespected staff when we had no interaction with staff whatsoever apart from asking for wifi p/word after checking in, none, we didn't even see them for the 2 days we were there.

Bed bugs! I called them to tell them I was infested with bed bugs and they didn’t want to do a refund. I was never able to sleep, just hitching myself all night long. I even found one bed bug under the sheets. I even send them pictures of my stings. All they for answer is that nobody else complained about it! 🙄

I am probably the first to tell them.

They answered that if I put a bad comment they would reply. It took me two days to let them know…

The reception was closed when I left early in the morning, I had a long day cycling coming on and I advised Jason, the owner of the caravan park, who referred me to that cheap motel. I met him the morning after in a local restaurant. I was stuck in Queenstown because of the bad weather, I had nowhere else to go.

The cellular service is very poor in that area as well as the wifi was not available until I got to Hobart. I am traveling by bicycle, it’s the reason I got there so late.

I gave them the chance to arrange the situation by writing to them before I do any comment on the internet. This is not a way to treat your customers. They should know better. They should give me a refund and get rid of the mattress and sheets. Not a clean place!

This is the cheapest motel in Queenstown, but is a tired and run down hotel that is in desperate need of a makeover. There is no on site reception, just a key safe to collect your room key. Our room had a toilet that would not stop running and a heater that was unusable as it made a burning rubber smell when turned on. I reported this to management but never received a response. The beds did have electric blankets and the room was spacious. Ok for a night if you are on a tight budget, but would probably stay elsewhere next time.

Okay, so this is propably the most filthy and disgusting place I ever stayed at! The rooms are mouldy and smell gros. The "kitchen" truly doesn't deserve it's name. There are no plates, the stove is a joke, it doesn't even work properly. Everything's been dirty, they didn't even provide warm water, towels or dishwashing liquid. Our food's been stolen overnight, even our juice and everything we had to drink. The bathroom facilities were about a billion years old and after taking a shower you felt even more dirty. I definately should have taken pictures to show everyone that the ones on the homepage are just a lie. This place is not worth a cent! Without a doubt a place i would never ever recommend.

This was the worst motel I have ever stayed in in Australia. My german visitor and I had booked in for two nights. The room was not serviced and I was told by a very rude untidy looking female that I had to do my own washing up of the dishes we had used the previous evening. When I questioned where I was supposed to do the dishes I was told to wash them in the handbasin next to the toilet. My bed could not be made because my nighty was on it and there might be something under it if lifted. When I told this "female" that I had booked and payed for a motel room not backpackers, she screamed at me not to be so rude. When I asked her name, she told me to mind my own business. Later on in the evening the owners of the motel also informed me of their policy about the dishes and making the bed, and that I should be happy to even receive tea and coffee as most motels no longer provide these. Not so. My friend and I did not stay the second night and the owner was happy to refund my payment for the second night and he was happy for us to leave. We then travelled on a few more days in Tassi staying in very nice motels with curteous staff and we did not have to wash our cups and saucers in the bathroom basin next to the toilet. We even had our rubbish bins emptied and beds were straightened. Never ever would I recommend the "mountain view motel" Queenstown to anyone. Mrs. U. Klein

Response from Robert Bruce F, Owner at Mountain View Motel
Responded 29 Mar 2015
We have a witness who was staying on the night in question, and she was disgusted with Ms Klein's behaviour. She has written a statement that Ms Klein was being difficult and rude with the staff member on duty, who was trying to assist her. We would gladly show this statement to any person who asks. Our Motel was booked out on the night, and it is unfortunate that the other guests on the night do not feel the necessity to leave the positive comments they made to us on this outlet.

We travelled all around Tassie for 15 nights in Feb and this is the only motel that i have given a bad review to. I don't like doing it but i don't want other travellers to be as disappointed as i was when i arrived here. The alarm bells should have gone off when the female owner booking us in said "i'll just go and check that the room is dry, have been removing water with a humidifyer". That was room 8, and so we refused to stay in that room as it smelt very damp and had a not so pleasant odour to it. The male owner then showed us, in a very unpleasant manner, to another room. As we were only staying one night we took the room. Big mistake, it was not very clean, had to put towels on the lounge so we could sit on it. Both my husband and i refused to have a shower as it was very unclean. But worse was, we were put next to the backpackers rooms and they were loud and kept us awake till 3am. I am not a 5 star girl but i do expect a certain level of cleanliness and it was not at this motel.
