Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Recently went to the Railway Hotel for dinner and it was amazing. The food is much better than The Empire Hotel which was a huge let down. The staff are friendly and the meals are huge. I would highly recommend the Railway Hotel.

Great spot to have a beer or wine after a big day exploring the country, cheer beer than down the road, and great personal service. Unfortunately there kitchen isn’t open at the moment, chef on holidays, but the food is awesome too, definitely make this the local when I’m in town

A big thank you to the Railway Hotel in Queenstown. We are travelling Tassie in our Motorhome and recently seen the Railway Hotel was RV friendly and since we were heading that way we called in. The ladies behind the bar were so friendly as is the owner. We parked in the designated spot and enjoy two lovely days contributing to the Queenstown economy. Our Wild Rivers train ride was an adventure which we then capped off with a delicious meal
At the Railway Hotel. We both enjoyed our schnitzel which was certainly enough for us and cooked well.
The Hotel may not look the most inviting from the outside and given time I’m sure these owners will improve the appearance so the outside matches to welcoming friendly atmosphere we felt once inside.

Well done to the Railway Hotel and thank you for having the foresight to give the Grey Nomads somewhere to stay in Queenstown.

We will return.

The rooms were clean and fresh as was the shared bathroom which had an excellent shower. Bed was very comfortable. Overall simplistic but excellent for the price and the owners were very friendly and extremely accommodating.

Excellent service, clean room (had a single) with a comfy bed, TV and a wash basin. Shared showers and toilets in the corridor were clean and functional. For $30 per night in a private room this is a bargain! No window apart from at the ceiling and for some reason no towel was provided (but soap, coffee, tea and a kettle were...). The restaurant serves great pub grub (in my opinion the dinner I had here was much better than at the Empire hotel as a comparison), also to good prices. It is very 70's but that doesn't matter! Perfect for the early train departure in the morning.

A Good budget priced Motel with very friendly and helpful owners

The in house restaurant food was very good .... the bar / pub section was small but friendly ... and the accommodation was "basic" but clean & presentable - and very reasonably priced - with a common shower at one end of the hallway and a common toilet at the other

Considering EVERYTHING above - the Railway Hotel was a good budget priced stay and had a friendly atmosphere about it, while our group were in Queenstown
